We had a great time during our recent trip to southern Saskatchewan and Alberta. We checked some things off our bucket list. Unfortunately had an issue with our 2014 Equinox on that trip and possibly faced a expensive repair bill.

Thank you for this video, I was having the same issue with my 2016 Equinox. I took my vehicle to my local OReilly for code check. The P0011 code popped up and I brought the parts like yours (VVT SOLNOID). I followed the instructions in your video and installed them by myself and now my vehicle is running fine.

Really glad it helped you. I believe the garage wanted almost $600 to do that job.

I'm in the middle of this happening now. I've had low oil, changed celanoids, and it continues being shaky even after new oilchanges. My service dept won't do more until another code appears. Now what?

I have a 2012 if you change the oil regular. And filter those problems may not happen. Also run Lucas every time you change the oil. It helps the engine. And keeps it really lubricated better than its synthetic oil

My sons 2011 equinox was doing the same thing at first, then advanced to start and idle rough but stall when trying to rev it up, and ended up being the catalytic converters were plugged up ( yes, both of them) from the oil burning. Had 9 different codes. Started with reduced engine power, then random misfires. Cannot remember the rest of the codes. You want to make sure they are the problem before replacing because they are expensive, $1'500 for the two. $750 a piece or more, especially the the first one attached to the exhaust manifold.

Thanks for the info. It will help to know if that happens to mine. How many miles on yours?
@Max-ly7kc

@@TROTakingitEasy Around 112,000, it was used when he bought it and burned a lot of oil. It has the 2.4 ecotec. If yours doesn't have a problem with using a lot of oil yet, make sure you keep up on the oil changes. There are two timing chains in that engine and a total of 5 plastic guides. The oil sump screen was almost plugged with parts of them, so the previous owner had already replaced one of the timing chains and three of the guides since there was only one broken one when I went through the engine.

At this time our Equinox has 108K kilometers so far and not going through much oil. Maybe 1/2 ltr between oil changes, so all good.

My 14 2.4 Terrain stalled every start cold or after long drive. I replaced both vvt solenoids, intake sensor, new gm throttle body, air filter, new oem plugs, o2 sensor, nothing helped. Once computer was reset seemed to be better for day or two. Seen youtube to try bardahl no smoke and I added around 6oz, never stalled again. Changed oil, stalled, same as before, added the bardahl, stopped stalling. This stalling started when engine had 35k miles, now at 70k and as long as I add the bardahl no smoke, never stalls, also does not use hardly any oil, if I go 6k miles before changing oil, I am down about 1/2 quart. Also my pcv lines are clean, so that's not issue. No odd engine sounds, power seems to be normal and I average about 22mpg. Never had a check engine light or any codes except when first bought the Terrain I had a bad 02 I replaced. I also ran good fuel cleaner through tank many times thinking it was fuel pump, but no help.

Good to know what others are experiencing with them engines. My 2014 Equinox only has 108K Kilometres (67k miles) and so far been good to me. A friend has one with a lot more miles and he says it uses a lot of oil. So far mine uses very little. Change oil when the computer says down to 20% left.

Had to do the same thing on my 2015 equinox only issue I've had I think these engines are ok if you drive them decently and service them regularly I change the oil every 3000 miles or 6 months which ever comes first

Although I allow the computer to tell me when to have the oil changed, I only use synthetic oil. Problem I'm having now is a lot of maintenance is due and being retired only have so much $$ available. Need to do some of the repairs myself if possible.

@TROTakingitEasy I buy full synthetic and gm oil filters online. Total cost is around $30 with tax. To make it real easy I have a $15 12volt pump for oil, connect to battery and put down oil lipstick hole. Takes about 10 minutes to change oil and no mess or bending/getting under. Then after about 4 oil changes I drain from oil pan in case any crud is there.

I have a 2016 Equinox. Also with the 2.4L. It would start then die after 2-4 seconds. I replaced both of these VV solenoids shown here DIDN'T fix. I had no codes so no check engine light. I disconnected the MAF sensor forward of the throttle body and it stayed running. I tried to clean it first but ended up spending $70 and replaced it. Hope this helps someone.

Mine had start stall only, replaced maf with oem gm and still stalled. Added oil thinkener and stopped. I even replaced throttle body and vvt's, both gm, added a self venting oil cap, changed plugs etc.

95% of these needs timing chains and one timing sprocket I have done 30 of these this year

strangely i had the same code, i replaced the intake and the exhaust sensor because I figured why not while I was already there. The light went off for about a week then came back on for maybe a day and then went off again and so far has been off but I am still having the stalling issues from time to time. Mostly when your stopped at a red light or even happened to my daughter when she was in a drive-though. Other causes could be dirty or low engine oil, already did an oil change and it happened again after that. Reading up on this issue the next step or problem could be fuel related but I would think the car would run bad and it would stall more often. This happens maybe 1-2x a month. Not sure what else to do besides maybe swapping the sensor again. Maybe I got a defective one. I went with the AC Delco brand and currently I am at a loss. This is happening to a 2013 Buick with the same 2.4 eco-tech motor. You have any suggestions on what else i can do? I also checked and cleaned the air filter because they say that could cause this issue too..

I have owned this vehicle for over 7 years and although not an expert, have learned about a few problems with this vehicle when it ages. Especially a possible clogged pcv valve or orifice which may cause excessive pressure in the crankcase which may blow out the rear seal. Some complain that the timing chain may need replacing. It is my understanding regular oil changes will help. The fix I shared here did fix my problem and it never came on again. I had stalling problems that required new spark plugs. I only use synthetic oil in mine.
@m.t.v.7934
@m.t.v.7934 3 месяца назад
@@TROTakingitEasy You think maybe new plugs could help the stalling issue? It does not happen all the time but anything more then 2x is enough when your sitting in traffic and the car stalls out.
@TROTakingitEasy
@TROTakingitEasy 3 месяца назад
@@m.t.v.7934 I replaced mine because it was running real rough. Don't no if that will help your issue, but if you've never replaced them it wouldn't hurt. The map sensor can also cause issues when the engine is cold.

@@TROTakingitEasy Okay, the plugs are easier then the PCV valve right? That is under the intake manifold right?
@TROTakingitEasy

@@m.t.v.7934 Correct, but I am not a expert and would definitely get a professional to tackle the pcv valve issues. Spark plugs most people can do themselves.

Was the car running any specific codes that helped you know what it needed repaired?
@TROTakingitEasy
@TROTakingitEasy 11 месяцев назад
On a trip to the Southern Canadian prairies the car started to unexpectedly stall. I was able to drive it home and a friend had a code reader, that I connected to the vehicle, which identified the codes I mentioned in the first part of this video.

Sounds like it has to go back to the repair shop. I had a vehicle once that the in-tank fuel pump kept failing (So I thought) and replaced about 5 before I discovered it was a bad electrical connection.

Thanks for your comments. I'm always working on making improvements. Good cameras and mics cost $$. The one I used for that video was poor as it picked up a lot of wind noise. Now using a newer Canon camera with a muffle on it and also experimenting with a wireless mic. I don't claim to be a expert, but merely sharing my retired truck driver life.
