I would use clock oil personally. Sewing machine oil in a pinch but not ideal

Just buy a silent smooth movement which costs about USD$2 from aliexpress.com, remove hands, take out old movement, put in new movement, install hands all at 12 o'clock position. Size of silent movement is same. The only thing to take note of is the length of the shaft, be sure that it is similar in length.

Most likely it is bad battery contact to circuit board. The part where the metal touches the circuti board often corrodes when Alkaline batteries are used. U can try soldering some small wires from circuit board to metal battery contacts. It is very rewarding to be able to bring a dead movement to life, but like what Mariano says, these days, if u are able to order a new movement, it's much easier to just go buy one. Costs about USD$2 with shipping.
