Broooooo!!!! Thanks so much. Here I am removing the grille and everything and you made this so easy. I’m going to all the other videos to direct folks to you. Those other guys don’t know what the hell they are talking about.
I was about to pull the whole housing the first time.... then found out how to get in there but it was a lot of minutes figuring out how actually be able do anything with your hand in a mouse hole in the engine bay. 😆
Thank you! The dealership wanted $150 to replace the bulb. The mechanic told me they would have to remove pieces of the bumper to get at the bulb. Your video saved a lot of time and a lot of money. Cheers!
THIS IS THE BEST TIP/VIDEO FOR CHANGING THE DRL ON VW JETTA 2016!! No run around just straight up 1.5 mins, how to position yourself and how to "Grab" the case/housing. I've changed mine like 2+ years ago, but couldn't remember for the life of me how I did it??? Here I was thingking the passenger side was easier than the driver side...45 minutes later, I couldn't budge loose the plastic wing- I almost gave up- and Sam is right I was cursing the German engineers like I did the first time...LOL!! Did a quick search and came across your video- Thank God! YES, Sam is right, you literally have to grab the housing case, I had to use at least three fingers (grab from underneath) and turn it counter clockwise! viola'! Thanks for this helpful video!!
I just watched a video of a guy changing his who removed every bolt in the book and had it on the rack taking about another bolt. He even mentioned how you might need to take off the bumper. FOR A BULB?! I thought I would do one more search and there you were. You are awesome!!
Friend, I can't thank you enough for posting this tip. With it I was able to remove the bulb in under a minute and I have fairly large hands. Without your tips I'd have attempted the wrong direction and would have ended up with a badly lacerated hand, plus having all my neighbours hear me swearing to no end. No, this is not poor design - our German VW gods aren't stupid - they're clever. This was an intentional design meant for us, the suckers, to bring our VWs to the stealerships and allow them to rake in huge profits on our backs. So good to see so many people not falling for this trickery. Your detailed instructions on where to press with the thumb and which way to turn made all the difference. Plus it helped me put it back in place. Heh, it's pointing up at a roughly 30 degree angle but appears to be in place, so I'm not sure if I got it in there properly or not. But the dust cover hopefully will be enough to keep moisture and dirt out. Wife's been asking for this for months and I finally had the time to attempt it. She owes it to your instructions for now having working DRLs. Cheers.
Thank you. I can't believe how many people put up videos for this and didn't take the time to explain the most difficult part. So glad I finally found your video.
Great video! A tip to moving those tabs on the driver's side DRL socket is to tape a 3/16 inch x 3 inch bolt from a Toggle Bolt 1/4 inch past your left index finger. Looked like an extended fingernail. This gave me the leverage to turn the plastic tabs and the bulb socket came right out. I was on the driver's side of the car, facing the front windshield and reaching backwards and turned the bulb clockwise towards the outside of the car. Before reinstalled the DRL socket back into the housing I used a little WD-40 Anti-Friction Dry PTFE Lubricant on a Q-Tip and reinstalled the DRL socket.
Thank you sooooooooo much o have been trying all morning to get the drivers side bulb out passenger side was a breeze.... but after watching your video I went right out and pulled it right out... after so many painful attempts. Thank you so much for making it easy for me.😊😊
You are such a life saver!! Thank you!! Spent like 2 hours trying to get these out and they wouldn’t budge, watched your video and was able to do both within 30 minutes! By far the best tutorial on RU-vid for changing the DRLS in a MK6 Jetta! Cheers 🍻
After an hour of trying to get my hand in there some way, my wife trying to turn it and taking all the bolts out so I could move it. All I had to do is stand in a different position. Sometimes the easiest things are right in front of us and we just don’t see it. After your video I had it done in 5 minutes thank you.
i tried this for two days and literally after watching your video, i changed both my DRL. My hand looks like a bloody scrapped mess but new LED DRLS installed! i guess its VW way to make you bring their cars to dealership to change the bulbs
Man, you have no idea how much you helped me. And probably a lot of other as well. This access panel is the most annoying thing to operat inside of. Yes, small hands are good, but not having any leverage is the hardes part. It's just a tiny turn but the way you showed definetly helped me through this. I looked everywhere for a tool or some advise or tip for getting that tab on the light housing turned. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love RU-vid...
Very helpful, and way simpler than the other videos i saw. Your tip on getting the bulb housing out of the headlight assembly saved a whole lot of fuss and hassle. Kudos!
Thank of so much, my hands thank you. Was driving me insane trying to do this simple job, was resigned to taking it into dealer to change, so glad I saw this.👍👍👍
Wow. Thank you so much. Worked out perfectly. I’m a petite woman, and my hand barely fit in there. I can’t imagine how anyone with a larger hand would be able to get in there. Thanks again!
This is the way to do it. But it is still painful. I removed the air box cover as well and pushed it out of the way, and that gave my forearm a bit more angle into the housing to reach the very back of the housing with enough leverage. After struggling forever, and sleeping on it, I finally got it the next morning on the second try. Lube it up with some plumbers grease or silicon before reinstalling. Not a lot, just enough to help the next poor soul. I believe in you!
¡Me has salvado, amigo, con tu consejo pude retirar el del lado del conductor, estaba muy difícil pero procuraba hacerlo desde la base larga y no desde donde mencionas, salió al instante, un poco incómodo pero se pudo, te lo agradezco!
Me too bro, this is the best damn video. Not only am I made at the lunatics who made this, but all these dumb ass videos where dudes don’t give technique or anything. This guy made this cakewalk for me. I’m more angry because of how easy it was..lol
Nice vid, I have same approach... this is the only way I am able to replace those bulbs, my hand barely fits into the housing. Hope this vid helps some people
Hey I don't know if you're going to respond to this but, it's worth a shot...what do you do if it feels like it's stuck....I'm able to get a good grip on mine but I'm not able to turn it very much....any suggestions???
Joe Kirby 0 seconds ago I 3d printed a ring like tool that was slotted to grip one of the fins. Perfect amount of leverage. Came right off after hours of trying everything else. tool was 25mm x 35mm x 8mm with a 3mm x 9mm slot.
I did the passenger side no problem before I turned to this video. Tried this method for an hour straight on drivers side. Nothing. Got a little loose but turned it clockwise to do so. Pick it up tomorrow before I kick a hole in it.
Seems like several are finding the light socket gets stuck, where it turns and unlocks but seems hung up on something. I am having this trouble as well. Anyone find a solution?
Sam, we will give this a try tomorrow on my 2013 Jetta TDI. But what about the passenger side? I have two bulbs blown out there, and one gown on the drivers, Thanks for your advice.
Thank you so much for sharing this video with us, I have been struggling for a while now to get that bulb out. Edit : turns out the bulb wasn't even blown, took it out and it looked fine so I put it back and now it works. Glad I didn't allow VW to replace it for me during the last service, that would have been $50 wasted for nothing.
As a man who's missing his right thumb tip, I was about to give up on changing them. Saw this and was like hmm, and the almost instantly popped out and was able to get those LED lights in, that way I will probably never have to change them again
Wow, I don't see how this worked for everyone else here, I literally have no room to twist the bulb housing doing this method... I eventually just pulled back the fender liner and was able to get some needle nose pliers on it to get it out.
