My parents roof broke no one would help them out. If i lived up their me and my kids would. The snow broke their roof now they have to shell out a shit ton of money to fix a roof that could have been prevented if my sibblings got up their to help them out.

So satisfying when you undermine it and a huge chunka chunk comes off. I have a flat roof so I have my own methods. Funny how when you live with this type of condition you learn the best way to solve it for your needs. Yeah, it's work but necessary and rewarding. This slide thing w/pole is a great idea.
It seems harder than it looks. You don’t have to be strong because you’re not pulling snow off the roof, you’re cutting snow and as soon the snow gets on to the slide, gravity does the rest !!!! Thanks for watching ! 👍🏻
It may not look easy, but people, look at all that snow, you can't do it with a regular roof rake/snow remover, this is a cool tool. Where do we buy this?
At the end of my third video you can see a close-up of the tool. The slide is made of some slippery carpets that kids use for sliding on the snow. They are very sturdy. I joined them with rivets. I made it 2 years ago and still going strong. Thans for watching.
I have built a couple of things similar to yours. Get a stiffer pole! I use wood doweling (closet poles work) and fasten them together with suitable electrical conduit couplers. Each of those couplers has four compression screws so remove those screws and drill out the holes drilling completely through the wood doweling and use a screw with a nut. I have one 12 ft long and one 16 ft long. They are plenty stiff.
At the end of the video it looks like a pretty tall lip on the cutting side of the device. It looks to me that it would cause trouble penetrating especially when there is some ice involved like in the video. It would seem to me that s flat, re-enforced cutting edge would cut through the hardened snow easier. I bet there is a reason for it though. Either way it does look much safer than getting on the roof or leaving it up there. Is this a commercial item or home made?
I installed wheels in the front of the box that cuts the snow. These wheels make the box cut the snow much higher than the shingles and cannot damage them. This year, I modified the wheels. I cut teflon circles and drilled holes in the center for the shaft. Very light and strong. You can make them the size you want. For me, I made them 4 inches of diameter. It’s better to let some snow on the roof. Thanks for watching.
I don’t know why you’re laughing about this ? Nevertheless I have a lot of replacement handles with me all the time !!!! It’s a DIY tool, not a bulldozer !!!! So sometimes it happens. Are you perfect in all situations ? Don’t you have incidents sometimes in your life ? One pipe that forms the handle costs about $1. No big deal ! Have a good day !

Everything BUT the poor design where the handle is always in a position where it must risk getting broken every time a chunk of snow falls on it. 10 seconds into the video I thought, "how long before the handle breaks?" and sure enough! It's funny because of the irony that's all. Wasn't looking to get a defensive stance from you. Great tool overall. Since you only need to push the tool I'd make a quick release break away fitting between the first and second poles. That way when you see a boulder coming you can jerk back on the handle to easily disconnect to avoid a break and then easily reconnect the break away. You have a good day as well sir!

I’m not protecting this tool from being copied !!!! If it’s on RU-vid, it’s because I want to share this for all the people who want to make it by themselves !!!! Or even make it better !!! After 3 years using my tool, I have never broken any shingles because of the wheels installed at the base of the box. Sorry for your situation but I didn’t steal this idea from nobody. I saw one day a swedish or norwegian video with a similar homemade tool and I did the best I could make by myself. Last year, I only broke 2 parts of handle out of 12. If some people don’t have the resources for making one tool like this they can buy some already commercialized like the Minnsnowta or the Snow Peeler.

Roofer have a device like a flare gun but it shoots a rope over the building so you can attach it to a tree on the other side of the house for a first man up climbing rope. I saw another fellow in Canada who had a wire and he went on the roof and dragged the wire across the hip of the roof. He came back down and then two people pulled the wire from each side of the house down the roof line. The entire roof of snow came down in one fell swoop. Personally, I would shoot the line across the roof using the roofers method for first man up and then get another person to help me pull the wire so I could get it down in one fell swoop. Two things would happen. I would not have to worry about two tons of snow falling on my head and with the wire I can get the snow off from the sides of the house thus not worrying about the snow falling on my head. It is much better to stay off of a snow filled roof and risk injury and still get your snow off. I can still see the application of your device but just wanted to share.
I tried the wire method and it didn’t work for me because the slope isn’t very high. The wire came out and nothing falled off the roof !!! 😂 Also I would have to get up there after each snowstorm. Thanks for watching.
I don’t know if you have seen my other videos but usually I remove the snow when it is fluffy so it is easy and fast. Don’t wait until the snow is hard and turns into ice. Thanks for watching !
I don't know why they don't make concrete radiant heated roofs, so all they have to do is flip a switch the roof heats up and the snow melts enough to slide off? It would save lots of time, and "time is money".
There is what they call « permanent roof » that is made of metallic shingles that look like slate shingles. After a snowstorm the sun heats the roof for only a few degrees and the snow slides off the roof by itself. The problem with this type of roof is the cost $$$$$$ and the second, the snow slides off everywhere so you have to shovel this wet snow off your way in front of each doors. If you don’t shovel it right away it turns into ice. Third, the warranty of these shingles is 50 years. Some of the companies selling these shingles don’t last 50 years !!! Thanks for watching !
@@bengazzara1324 It seems like you could make a concrete radiant heated roof with a concrete radiant heated sidewalk around your house so that you wouldn't need to shovel snow at all?
Usually the average temperature here during the winter here is between -7°C and -15°C. Unfortunately there are city rules for the style of roofs. Also winter lasts a VERY long time here so it would cost a lot for electricity and the price for the modification of the house. Roofing a house like mine with asphalt shingles cost around $10 000 and will last 25 to 30 years. The next owner can do whatever he wants to do !!! 😂😂😂
First, thank you for watching my videos. I you look closely to the end of my third video, you’ll see that I installed casters to elevate the lower blade of the box. This way I cannot damage any shingles. I’ve removed snow from a lot of roofs in my neighborhood and since 2 years I’ve never had any problems !
I doubt that is even possible. Places where snow is common houses tend to be well insulated and heat doesn't realy leak through the roof. This means that leaking heat doesn't melt the snow and snow sticks on the roof easier. And so the snow stays on the roof untill spring comes and sun can melt snow enough that a layer of water forms under the snow and causes it to slide off the roof. And even then the roof may be made of some material that offers more friction than a corregated steel. Sometimes roofs have been designed to keep snow on the roof untill it melts as the falling snow can be a hazard.
I thought the outward forward facing front edges of this device wd have jagged teeth on it (bent upwards a bit to avoid snagging the roof tiles) to allow it to penetrate the snow blocks better hmmm
Sorry for the ignorance but I have never lived anywhere that snow accumulates like that. But why not just leave it on the roof? Does it make a big difference in heating the home or something?
What you saw were several tons of snow. This extension of the house was poorly designed and if there is too much weight on the roof, the door jams !!!! I don’t wait too much to remove it after each snowstorm. I plan to solidify this extension maybe next year.
Oh gosh... us southerner's are SO clueless about snow. If they even predict snow here everything closes down... an inch of snow will totally bring everything to a halt.
That’s because the state where you live is not well equipped for these situations. And I suppose that it is uncommon to have winter storms. So it’s easier to stop everyone from driving and taking risks. Also we have to install winter tires by law. Once every three for four year there is a major snowstorm that that shut off pretty much everything only for a couple of hours.
I used to have the Avalanche. I like yours better. The vinyl on the Avalanche was flimsy and flopped around too much. What kind of vinyl or plastic did you use and where did you get it. My house is in need of this with all the snow we’ve gotten in MN this year.

It’s been 4 years that I use my tool and I removed the snow off of hundreds of roofs across the town without any damages on the tool and any roof !!! I think that it’s absolutely not flimsy. The technique is more important than the concept. Because shingles are fragile when somebody walks on them, the longer they will last if you’re removing the snow from the ground. You can’t use this tool with every style of roof, but for a simple bungalow it is perfect and fast. The average worked time for one side of a house is around 15 to 20 minutes. This tool has removed hundreds of tons of snow without any damage. It is evident that my most popular video is the one where there is almost 3 feet of snow on the roof. That’s because it looks spectacular and I didn’t have the time to remove it before. Don’t wait until the snow is turning into ice, you have to do it when the snow is soft. Thanks for watching ! 👍🏻

What did you use for the pole. I made one for use in mn all i could get localy is conduit and it just bet so i had to add thin angle iron to it but it's heavy now
Here is the product on Amazon.ca but it’s $7 a my local hardware store. Gravity make the snow slide down the roof !!! If the snow is not hard, it takes me 15 minutes for a full standard roof. Think that in my city, snow accumulation problems are mostly on the west side of the roof. Well, depending on how much weighs the tool , the pitch of your roof and the method you’re using to use the tool, I think that you can do it. The easiest way is to remove the snow as soon as possible. Don’t wait two or three snowfalls. One of my video demonstrates that with maybe 6 inches of snow, it’s soooo easy to make it fall to the ground. The snow doesn’t have the time to harden with the rays of the sun and the cold of the night. The fluffiest it is the better it is for you to remove it. Mine weighs about 3 pounds but on a long stick the weight multiplies fast. By getting the tool on the roof almost vertically and then by adding extensions to the handle, it is very easy to get it on the roof. Then the weight of the tool sits mostly on the roof. You have a fraction of the weight on the handle. In addition the caster wheels make it easier to move it up and down. Good luck !

In freezing circumstances the snow on your roof provides you with a nice layer of insulation. The only reasons to remove it that I can think of, is because of a possible overweight. Or being hit by an avalanche if you slamshut your frontdoor if you leave for what ever reason you leave.
The structure of this part of the house has been reinforced last fall. The reason why I want to remove it asap is because I don’t want the snow to turn into icy snow. It’s pretty hard to cut it with my tool when it is icy. When it is only snow, it spend only 15 to 20 minutes for this task. Thanks for watching !
Metal roofs have a problem with glaciating - and it's inevitable that the gutters get ripped off and at the best roof vents get twisted. Not so much with bituminous or cedar shingles and not at all with flat roofs The gist of "insulating" is that it should be under the roof while letting the actual roof be ambient air temperature. Of course insulation works not only in the winter - as we all know.
First I’d like to thank you Here are the dimensions of the box made of 2 U form aluminum sheet of 1/8 ” 6 inches high 18 inches wide 4 inches deep I used Krazy Karpets for kids for the slide and joined them together with rivets. You have to adjust the width of the box to match the width of what you have for slide. Then I used heavy duty furniture glides as casters. For the handle I cut the one on my Garant roof shovel, which was too hard to work with, and attached on top of the box with U-bolts. The handle sticks connect to each other so you add more sticks to reach higher locations on the roof. Good luck and stay away from electrical wires.
