Easy Shoe Cubby : Speed Build

Made a huge shoe cubby for a large family so each person would have plenty of places to put their shoes and sandals. Height and width were determined by the corner it was going to be placed in. The interior uprights and banding were all reclaimed from a previous project. Hope you like it!

Perfect timing for this video. Looks like a good winter project. I'll tackle this along one side of our garage to start and then probably along the garage door side afterward. Will probably swap in some 2x4s, but I definitely like the simplicity of the design (it works really nicely for 10' ceilings). Might throw on some stain (or just paint) to dress it up a notch! 2:24

“Easy shoe cubby” has a freaking warehouse full of equipment lmao.

Yeah, friends let me work there. I think all I ended up using there was the table saw, miter saw and compressor. Regardless, could have done it all with hand tools but this is definitely faster. Thanks for watching!

Honestly this is “simple” not easy 😂 assuming that easy means “quick”. I mean, I could make it with a circular saw and some clamps in my garage 🤷‍♂️ it is HUGE though.

I’ve watched so many videos and this showed me I can just do it with some wood, glue, and clamps for the most part. All available at my local Lowe’s who will pre cut so thank you for a simple way to do it. And for including how you set up your measurements and cuts! I feel a little more prepared now :)

All that’s missing is a pair of sliding doors to conceal the shoes on display. I love the the unit, I plan to get a builder to do this one day. Thanks for sharing !

Definitely a great build. Unfortunately I can’t think of a simpler way than doing what you did here. Looks like a lot of work. Was hoping for a one day project. This will take me at least three days. Very nice work.
@MakeForOthers
@MakeForOthers 2 года назад
The things I could have done to speed up build is pre-sand and pre-painted some of it (like all the surfaces that weren't going to be glued) and reduce the amount of interior vertical pieces. Regardless, thanks for watching!
@AverageCarGuy

@@MakeForOthers yeah. I was thinking that paint before build would be faster. But still. That’s always very hard to decide.

I don't understand why you have a video where you fast forward on the important steps? If I want to fast forward, I can fast forward the video, but when you fast forward, I can't tell what the you did.

Appreciate the work ... but were you in a race with another builder? Not much point in running the video at such speeds if you lose communication/information transfer in the process. IMHO ... should have allowed more time for on-screen shots of dimensional info. Almost impossible to read in the time it's visible. But, thanks for the ideas anyway.

I definitely want to make one or two of these; you made it look easy. QUESTION: Could I paint all the wood before I cut it? I know cutting will still leave raw edges but those would be easy to touch up after assembly.
@MakeForOthers
@MakeForOthers 3 года назад
Hey G G, thanks for watching! I definitely think you could paint before cutting or at least before assembly. If I was making another one, I'd do one of those two ways...especially with a piece like this where it doesn't get moved around much (if at all).

Where did you get that medieval mail holder
@MakeForOthers
@MakeForOthers 10 месяцев назад
A long time ago my grandfather had to sell the family cow and when he traded it for three beans the witch threw the mail holder in for free. The beans didn't turn out well, but the mail holder has been shared by the family ever since.

Hey Christopher! They are 0.75", but I think 0.5" would work too.

David, thanks for watching! I know what you mean, could have probably made it all with half inch instead of three quarter...but our house has a tendency to break weaker things so overbuilt is what worked best for this situation.

Love the video. But sucks when title says things like simple or easy or cheap diy but then they use tools and machines that you don't have that cost a bit more money just to be able to build those things. Smh
@marktrezz
@marktrezz 2 года назад
You could build this with just a handheld circular saw and hammer, nails, glue and a T square. But think if you had a table saw and a brad nailer, you could build 4 of these at a time and sell them to all the neighbors and craigslist people and make tons of money, offsetting the cost of your shoe box AND all your tools, which could also be used for future projects... Think bigger, expand, get rich and have fun all at the same time !

silent and lightning speed-not especially helpful. Would not call this instructional, unless that was not the intention.

It’s literally called a speed build. It’s in the title. Nothing in the title said “instructional” or “how to” …it’s just a Guy building a Thing.
