Follow this easy guide to replacing the tires on a standard patient transport wheelchair. Save yourself hundreds in continuous wheelchair maintenance and learn yourself!
I have been looking all over the internet for this EXACT information! I love that there's so much out there for people in active chairs but i need as much help as I can get with this transport chair until i can get something else lol
Thank you so much. Zip ties were a great solution. Was able to fix mom's chair by laying it on its side, locking the wheel, then used 2 screw drivers to leverage it on part by part adding zip ties along the way. No hammer needed... Maybe because it is a cheap "Drive" wheel chair
You dont need the special tool - Do it in two steps - first work the tire around the hand wheel, then raise it from there to the rim. Do use zip ties for both steps. Don't even need to take it off the wheelchair. After it is in place I put a mall piece of pipe between the tire and rim, and work it around the wheel to seat the tire properly. Remove the pipe, and your done!
Thanks for the video. I tried to change the whole wheel (metal part/spokes) using wheels from an older wheelchair and found that the center bolt is not the same diameter. Very little difference, like mabe 2mm. Are all wheelchairs going to have different size bolts for their wheels???
You're video was very clear. I have a question if You wouldn't mind answering. You know those quick release bolts on bicycles, is there a way i can convert my wheelchair so i can tale the wheels off so it fits in my car. And i need a solution for the back rest to fold also. Ty
I’ve seen so many comments on other RU-vid video. This tyre tool doesn’t work. The only one I can see for sell are from the USA. I’m going to try and make my own. Do you have the size
Hey, man. Looks like that is the exact same wheel, and issue that I have, and is what I was looking for, but can't find. So, that was a nice find... if you answer me, I guess, lol... The handlebars, first I can't even figure out what they are, metal or plastic, then like I said, just like this one, they have that gunk around them. I was trying to clean it off, with a drill brush, scouring pad, sandpaper, but I can't tell what's happening, lol... I am now hitting silver underneath, but the gunk wasn't even gone, arrgghh, lol, wth?? Sounds like plastic, but how is it silver?? Do you know where I can buy new ones, only can find full wheels on Amazon, elsewhere. ty Peace
See if this helps you. Pg 172. We order nearly all of our wheelchair parts from Land & Wheel. I believe they are a plastic outer sheath over a metal tubing on the inside. www.landandwheels.com/343/172/
Naww I'll pass looks like I'll need to replace the wheel Look how your banging on the wheel FFS It could be bent out of wack. . . wobble wobble Na but thanks bruh, whatever works for you Doesn't work for me Ciao
Done this process on 100s of wheels and never had a problem. I am using the hammer on the rubber tire so I assure you it’s fine and not bending the rim. These rims are for transport chairs in a hospital they are plenty sturdy enough.
