I have installed 75 to 100 windows in van in the last 50 years and you did the Best job of installing windows that I have seen for a first timer ! Great Job !!
For a level, you can get a digital level which you then set on the floor as a reference level and "reset" the digital level to that surface, so that all other measurements are relative to that surface. This means your van can be parked on an unlevel surface and you can still use the level for all your measurements.
Great video, I’m building out my third build and windows still scare me. A good trick before you drill the holes on the edge of the template is to drill two in the center of the template and the through the van. Bring the template outside (or inside if you start on the outside) line up the holes and make sure the placement works. If it’s off or interferes with any of the structure you can still adjust it. Building vans is as much fun as using them. Great work!
Omg! I could only Imagine how stressful that can be. I was stressing with you! Bravo kiddo! You made it look easy to do. As a fellow female doing a van build, you have totally boosted my confidence! Thank you so much for this video! Phew!
Great job! Thank you for a video that makes me wonder if I should consider doing my own van build (as I am in the research phase, deciding the best option for me - van, pull-behind, etc). And, you *should* be VERY proud of yourself - that is the best feeling in the world, to realize how very capable you are! 👏 👏👏
I've been nervous about installing a couple windows in my Promaster. I've searched for a video that was to the point and I just want to say thank you for this! I'm feeling far more confident now.
I don’t understand how you could have no prior experience but have so much knowledge on what to do to correctly install and troubleshoot the window. I wouldn’t have the idea to think of all the details you did. Did you take a carpentry class before or…how?
Hi Linnea. I found our channel recently as I was getting ready to install my Maxxair fan. It has quickly become my favorite van build channel. It is helpful to see another female doing this on her own with no prior experience. Your videos are inspiring me to each next step. Next step for me is to install my windows, so came back to watch this a 2nd time!
i'm looking at building a van just for camping. i don't plan on living in mine but windows like this would be nice. i've watched a few installs but the way you did it makes the most sense.
I just purchased a promaster and plan on adding similar windows to it. I have not tried installing yet but this video was SUPER helpful to understand the step-by-step process! Also, I really appreciate all the little tips you added in. Thanks for taking the time to film your install!
Great video, me and my daughter plan on converting a van, love your breakdown of the work, my daughter loves your beekeeping 👕 thank you for the ideas wish UK weather was as nice...
Hey Linnea! Thank you for uploading this video, I used it yesterday to install this same window in my van. I am currently converting my Promaster too. By the way, after installing the Maxxair, fan, I was pretty confident coming into this window install until I heard you say that this install was more dangerous, haha. Looking forward to seeing how your van turns out.
That is such a great idea! Unfortunately, my fans and two solar panels will be taking up almost all of my roof space - so that wasn’t an option for me and my small van haha but maybe in the future if I build out something bigger I will go that route!!
Hey Linnea & Akela!!! Way to go avoiding the puckering. Those windows are a nice added touch. My van doesn't have any windows either so I'm thinking about copying what you have done. You are turning into a Professional right before our eyes. Keep up the good work and Thank you so much for sharing. 😎
You are such an upbeat and inspiring individual. I am pulling for you and I’m your biggest fan ! Not the one on the roof of your van, lol. Please Please Please keep posting the videos. Bo
Linnea & Akela just one thing, watching you work on your knees were killing my knees. Have you ever thought of wearing cushioned or even gel knee pads ? I work in tight spaces on planes and those knee pads save my knees from a lot of pain. Bo
Hi Linnea. This video has been so helpful. I'm stoked to say I wrapped up my motion window install this week. Huge thanks for vlogging this. I'm glad I found your channel
Hi! I already gushed over you after watching a different video of yours but, because it bears repeating, you are a rock star! Because I am (hopefully) very close now to having my own Promaster to convert, I am re-watching a number of your videos. One thing about this one that I can't for the life of me figure out (and it has nothing to do with windows) ---- Why is your friend in the background (I assume 'friend' because 'random stranger' would be even more perplexing) tying a weight to a pole (at about the 11 minute mark)?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Haha - so on that day it was super hot and I put up my EZ Up tent to block the sun... but then a crazy windstorm came through and I needed to get my window in quick because there was a giant hole cut into the side of my van. So Jake and I were scrambling to get something to weight the tent down, while I was scrambling to get my video recorded and my window in! It was quite the chaotic moment haha
Another tip is to put tape over the slide door rail. To avoid small pieces of metal behind the rail. Before I started the conversion of my Peugeot Boxer (same as Promaster only different name) I removed that rail and there was some rust. Easier to fix before you build the inside because the nuts for the rail is inside the van.
Hello Linnea/Akela!! Big question, most van dwellers have one fan, why did u choose two??? I thought on 2 myself, but was not sure of room for solar. I watched a few of ur other installations b 4 seeing this one. I’m saving them to help me out when I build my van. I know that u feared and stressed on doing these things, but I have to admit, from my side of the camera, once u started each project, u looked like a pro, as if u’d done it along time. I appreciate u for sharing and explaining the process!!! Thank u
Amazing job GZ if I could recommend investing in a DeWalt Impact driver. It gave me chills to see you use a drill gun for screws lol but I’m just a nerd like that :) great job, please drop by anytime and give me a hand with our Promaster city back windows
I’m super excited that I found your channel and really enjoying watching your journey. Great job keeping it simple and being real. Traveling in a 20’ trailer for now but thinking my husband and I could design and build our own van hopefully in the near future. I’m starting with your first video and working my way up to present day. So tempted to take a peek at your completed van, but I will resist….right???
I'm getting ready to install my windows and I love your videos! Is there a reason why you didn't cut from the inside of the van to avoid making two outlines? Thanks and keep ip the great work!
I did my vent fan with a cheap jigsaw, and went through like 5 blades. For my sliding door window I bout a $100 jigsaw (a bosch) and it was so much easier.
I bought exact windows n love. Didn’t do best job making hoke but thank god it worked no leaks. My sliding door window is terrible…opening is just terrible and I will replace it some time n future.
My van is going to be as "stealthy" as my idiosyncrasies allow. And one of those is that I can not be in a van that does not have side back windows. The style of windows you put in are the type I'm going for, but probably a little smaller. One is definitely going to be a bit more forward, above some part of what will be the sink or food prep area. Since I plan to go a little smaller, I would probably be fitting one about where you fit yours, only next to that ribs so I didn't have to cut it out. Or maybe one on either side of the rib. I'll just have to see my options closer to the time.
Hi - Great video, very clear. I brought an RV window on Amazon that didn't come with instructions (as per the listing). I was wondering is that tape you use foam or was it butyl tape?
Hello there you really did a great neat job for your van windows, i wanna ask you how are your windows going since you have them installed? In planning to install my windows this winter to help getting rid of moist and smell while im cooking. TIA
Hi Linnea! I’ve been following your page for a while. Thank you so much for all of your videos. Can I ask you- did you use any support after you removed the bar to cut for your windows? I removed the bars and there is a lot of swoosh when I drive. And man I’m scared to start cutting the windows ans installing and I’m wondering if you need to add support after to prevent the panels from flapping (swoosh sound). Thank you so much!
Ok question….just installed the exact same window in my daughter’s van… when u screwed the frame into the window did the screws go in easy or did u have to push hard! Did they go into the window frame itself? Also, we did everything the exact way you did but our screen won’t open or close. Window does but not screen? I think the screws went into the track maybe? But there isn’t anywhere else to screw the screws too? Any help would be appreciated!
Good job and I like your measured fear as you drill holes in your van. I bought the exact same windows as you for a transit. Did you test them for leaks with a hose when done?
Does anyone know about warranties? Does cutting the hole and installing the windows yourself invalidate the warranty? Would it be wise to have an authorized dealer install them on a van that is under warranty?
After having the motion windows in for sometime now. Would you recommend? Did you have to send in measurements for windows or you bought the recommended ones?
Hi Linnea! You're over a year down the road, do you still like the window set up/ brand you went with? I am starting my van build and I feel overwhelmed with the number of window choices! Thanks!
Does anyone know if my 2005 Econoline Van windows can be reused in a Transit Cargo Van. I'm talking about the two windows on the drivers side. The one right behind the driver the opens from the bottom and the longer fixed closed window on the drivers side also the long side window on the passenger side.
Hi!! Thanks for the great video. Did you have a gap on the clamp ring where it is split? I still have an inch or so gap on my clamp ring when I put it on my window...
Stock Promaster high top is 40k minimum now, guess ill go for financed under carvana? My grandfather has all the tools for renovations but he rents and HOV trailer park so not sure if Id be able to build it there.. otherwise im living in my car rn and I prob have more money saved then most my family..4k lol things are ridicules' van life trending 40k debt and 10k renovation over a year is whats ahead if I can even. #Linea&Akela
Wow… times have really changed. I got my van for 17k. I really wish you the best with your van and renovations! Maybe things will shift here in the next year or so?
@@Linneaandakela tbh I fear it is going to get worse. Is sooooo many van lifers out here but I appreciate your video playlist of the full build. Makes it look possible to have a dream🙂
