This was a very interesting approach. Really never thought about the moat digging in that way because the troops would instantly get sniped by the Arab archers. However the rest of the setup is similar. Moving the stockpile elsewhere seems to be the only way to do this mission properly tbh. In my case, I took advantage of the keep being indestructible to put two square towers behind it and a small staircase behind them so any troops and workers could just go to the backside via the towers (I did dig a small line around the campside to force troops and workers to go back). At first the two were equipped with balistas to snipe the catapults. As for food I simply put a handful of apple orchards enclosed with small walls and a gatehouse. Protecting the granary and the orchards from the slave waves. As for troops it was a mixture of shields on towers, crossbowmen and Arab archers for defense. After I gathered enough stone and gold, I simply spammed catapults and whatnot. I also used mangonels at a slightly closer range to blue Caliph to force it to spend money on rebuilding over and over.
You can easily win the mission buy getting 40 or 45 maceman and rushing Richard. You also place two sqare towers in front of the keep to protect you from caliph. When you kill Richard you get about 8k or 9k gold which is enough to buy a lot of crossbows to defend yourself while building economy. Richard keeps one part of the castle open just enough to rush in.

Glad to see someone creating videos about this gem. Still playing it up to this day. I did modded the game with popular GMB mod and unofficial patch, so I wonder if I can beat the trail now - should try simply beating it, its been a long time
The biggest pain was defo the catapults in this one, with aggressive AI at least, so avoiding walls and towers is defo a good idea. I'd often make a maze with low wall then just draw moat around it and destroy the wall, gives much finer control 😄
i took this map with the biggest cheese possible that works on pretty much all tight starts: game speed to 20, build as many horse archers early as possible and some assassins, then take your lord to the closest caliph to kill his archers and bait out his swordsmen. alternatively (but kind of cheating) just block the AIs gatehouse with ox/woodcutters lol
My strats was killing the caliph in the beginning with some assassin + good things (+25 damage bonus) and take his money, the rest just spam tower with balista and crossbow
please tell me how do you build catapults and shields with one click??? you don't click on the building selection panel every time. do you have mods installed?
@@azeeyplays8870 Simply click on Mercenary post, then select unit number (2 for Slaves in this case) and click on map where you want them to go after being spawned.
@@KING20047 select unit you want to asign and press ctrl and the number. If you want different unit types in the same group, you need to put them next to each other and then assign the control group using the steps mentioned above.
Wow idk what setting you have it on. But the normal game would never let you get that moat built. Your people would be dead and your base destroyed before you even got it laid out let alone finished.
