I have a small black n white pencil drawing etched by a special 150 line duo-tone process.and its signed.Original date was 1893. Is framed but small redone in 1972. I may have it appraised. Would you have an ideal on its value? Im giving it to my granddaughter when it sells.

Dear Sir - You are an amazing man. Trump or Biden haven't sent me a 2,000 dollar checks, yet you've done it twice since I started watching your shows. You have my vote in 2024. Your BOLO advice, hands down, is the finest on RU-vid. A freakin' Harvard education in "Smalls". You are the man! Your "Marbles" episode from a couple of years back? Concise and brilliant. Anyone with energy and an artistic eye who watches your episodes will change their lives. You are a vibrant and powerful force.

Out of all the reselling content creators I’ve seen on RU-vid, you provide, by far, the most valuable comprehensive material that is both digestible and and succinct. It’s clear that you plan ahead and prepare. You certainly know your stuff and understand how to communicate well.

I really love engravings. A lot of them also have depressed paper borders from the metal etched plate being pressed into the fresh paper. In my opinion, engravings are early forms of photography. Some of the earliest engravings were done to show others what certain animals looked like from other countries, or what certain flower types looked like. (Curtis Botanicals). Many early maps of the US were also engraved. The USGS used engravings to show early Railroad routes and types of tools and trains in use. This is a large diverse area of collecting and it is amazing!

Simply looking for the plate marks around the edges of the image is a quick way. Should be a little ledge where the paper laid over the engraved plate.

I am new at this, I go out and spend money buying great items but it seems people just minimize the price by lowering it to bare minimum. I don’t understand how he makes money because it seems the item he says sells for high profit are very common on Ebay. Please teach me because I really want to learn. I am here to stay.

From what I know he has a large quanity of items up online. The fact that he has so much quantity up means that even if some take a year or more to sell higher priced items, many of these items are always selling.

How about those that are already framed behind glass ? Thrift shops etc. A pair of magnifier lens should tell you as the ink shows up 3 dimentional and you see a plate impression

I am wondering how to find out what the engravings are worth. Some shown for sale were going for hundreds while others were going for thousands.... Is there a "source" you use to estimate their value?

Or get a good magnifying lupe, and look at the surface - it applies to any artwork if in doubt about what you’re looking at, you can see much more easily. I always carry a lupe when I go thrifting.
@TheAuctionProfessor
@TheAuctionProfessor 3 года назад
Many early engravings wont have much raised ink do to the paper, and etc. So even with a loupe it may not be visible, but with a crayon it pretty much always shows if it's a real one or not.
@thetemudgin193
@thetemudgin193 3 года назад
@@TheAuctionProfessor But with the loupe, won't you see the dots of a lithograph printing and be able to tell the difference that way? No dots (solid color) means it's an engraving?

Thank you again for superb content, seeking from the heart to help other people like you. That is a true asset. In the fall I discovered a mid 19th Century litho from Emile Lasalle at one of my favorite flea markets. A handcolored, large sized work of a boy with a falcon. I kept for myself!! Hand signed.

Once you get used to it you can spot them quite easily the way there pressed in the way they feel if your eyes are good you can spot them quite easily it doesn't take a lot of experience I mean I guess maybe I'm used to it but you can see the real thing from regular print or litho
