Ya know if you press the forward button (two icons to left of wrench icon on mask path) it'll track the mask for you.

there is also a very easier way to do it. copy ur clip and put it above ur text and the original clip. than add color key to the coppied clip. choose the color of its background and put the color tolrance high enough to see your text. and thats all you need to do. but this only works if your object isnt the same color as its background
