► How to Fight with Less Effort. How to defend yourself in a fight is all about how to move directly and efficiently. This video shows some simple moves best used in Self Defense. We focus on the concept of economy of motion in order to teach how to fight. So essentially in watching this video, you learn to defend yourself in a fight with less effort.
Moving efficiently with Wing Chun allows you to conserve energy, and also places your arms in a better place for self defence. However, it is not just efficiency that wins fights, but the ability to make the situation predictable. Wing Chun has a number of hand fighting skills that creates the situation in which your attackers movements can become predictable.
This video introduces the concept of predictability for self defence. If you can make the situation predictable then you will find it easier to manage a violent attack. The first half of the video discusses the idea of tying one arm up in order to force your attacker to punch you with their other arm. This essentially makes fight or self defence confrontation more predictable and easier to manage.
The second half of the video discusses where and how to use your hands to defend your face. Most people in the street will attack or punch your face. Therefore, it makes sense to place your hands in front of the target of the punch. If you place your hands in front of your face, you are moving efficiently and less likely to be punched hard in the face.
The key thing is to conserve your energy and not move in excess. Just move as efficiently as possible in any self defence confrontation. This will help you in most fights.
We have lots more videos on how to fight with Wing Chun. Please visit our channel. Better yet feel free to leave a comment or a suggestion of what you would like us to film for you. It does not have to be about Wing Chun it can be about any subject related to fighting, how to fight, Wing Chun techniques, or even Wing Chun vs other styles of martial arts. We are happy to pass on our knowledge and experience free of charge.

@banedestroysbatmanofcanada4622
carol carolmoore dude I'm a wing chun and boxing and jiujitsu practioner and wing chun is good for real fighting but it is used best as a surprise in a real situation your attackers usually are not a trained killer or a trained fighter.so yes wing chun will work but for it to work well you must train under pressure.and sifu Mark Phillips is the real deal holyfield.

In kempo-jutsu, we were 80% hands, 20% low kicks, and a good arsenal of locks and throws. Not every school or fighter has a background in grappling. I've seen good fighters lose because they lacked the stopping power or speed to stop an incoming grappler, or because they were just to stationary. I'd be interested to see a video by you on footwork- especially evasive footwork. I'd bet you have something interesting to say about it

Not that I have experience in fighting but to my understanding in a close contact fight, it may be better to intercept the first strike in many cases a hook and get on the outside of that arm and strike and grapple the person, It is obvious that your skills are extra ordinary and you have mastered the art of fighting, but for an ordinary person it would not be good to stay in the middle of all four striking limbs as their muscle memory, contact reflexes and timing would not be tuned as yours. In a real fight I would also try to go for an open hand strike to the eyes. I do not have that much experience in fighting because I believe that the majority of fights can be defused even before they happen it, it helps if a person is confident that he can defend himself in these situations and he can keep his anger in control. I did find your skills in fighting and teaching excellent. Many thanks for your time. I really appreciate the videos.

+Anthony Ryu thank you very much for the comment. It's been a while since I've seen this video but from memory I was teaching the simple concepts of control. That is, having an understanding of the Gate System in Wing Chun to create a degree of predictability. It makes sense not to allow someone the full use of their arms and legs to attack you. So if you can control one side of your attacker then they have to use/attack with their other side. I hope this helps. These are simple concepts that my students are able to replicate in practice and reality. Thanks for watching.

While this is a nice demonstration of principles of simplicity (not chasing hands, and sticking to the center line), I prefer outside defenses in which incoming straight punches are not parried to the inside of the body, but to the outside. This creates more space to move in and dominate the attack. If you parry to the inside, you might still get hit, particularly if the attacker is quick. Outside defenses allow for greater overall control.

Great video Sifu ,would you take control by making the first contact or wait for them to throw the first punch? Thank you for grew videos
@fightscience
@fightscience 9 лет назад
In reality it's difficult to answer that question, but I do think the key thing is to get control of one of the attackers arms as soon as possible that way the situation becomes more predictable. Thanks for watching.

+Fight SCIENCE That's why it takes a good teacher who knows these little bits of elusively obvious information to complete the system. Wing Chun is so simple and direct, but it's the little tweaks that make it work. You're doing a great job, so thanks for that!

Sir does wing chun really help in real life ? Does it help with sparing or survival purpose or surviving multiple attacker situation? I thought Krav maga is a street survival martial art ? Is it true that grapples and wrestlers are very strong and not easy to handle them as they have strong ground work ? I really like your style for sure sir . Regards
@jonathanjoestar7640
@jonathanjoestar7640 6 лет назад
ASHISH SINHA Im sorry he didnt answer, Im a martial arts nerd and practicioner too and I think it does help in real life, please do remember that its always the fighter not the art. Krav Maga focuses on dirty fighting and ending a confrontation as quick as you can, rarely it had sparring (or so Ive heard) but a kick to the groin which is its specialty sure is effective in a scuffle. Before switching to BJJ due to a shoulder injury, I have wrestled in my junior days and Id say that wrestlers are tough due to our training program and conditioning. Wrestlers are probably tougher than football players in terms of conditioning and endurance as they are very explosive and can remain explosive for a long period of time, be wary when facing them. Hope that answers your questions.
@lonniebeal6032
@lonniebeal6032 7 лет назад
Shouldn't the attacker have a bit more variety? Constant roundhouse punches aren't the only way to punch out there. Some opponents will throw upper cuts, jabs and straight punches.

This stuff is awesome. It looks impressive and makes solid sense. Great practical advice. The problem with me is; I'm incredibly dozy and dim witted and also a truly terrible chess player. So when it comes to trouble I always use the same, failsafe technique which has resulted in me never losing a fight in the zero fights I've had over the years - I just run away.

I'm a 13 year old with a guy intimidating me at school and the fight will happen he's smaller but chunkier and I'm taller and leaner , tips?
@fightscience
@fightscience 8 лет назад
Well the obvious advice is to use your height and range to keep him at bay, but I shouldn't really be encouraging you to fight this guy. Isn't there another way of resolving the problem without fighting? You said he's intimidating you. Well that is something you have direct control over. In other words, don't let him make you feel bad, then he can't intimidate you. Have you seen our video on Facing Fear and Intimidation? see: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ZBmGZje8KM.html. This will help you better.

This is self defense for a trained fighter, not for an average person who is being attacked by a person who is bigger, stronger, faster. In most cases the attacker is bigger, stronger, faster because if He wan't He wouldn't attack you.

+Zach Walter Zach, there's plenty of videos of me sparring with a range of people and levels, including the then current English Heavy Weight boxing champion, although this wasn't a fight it does show me putting many of the ideas that I teach into practice. Please see our channel for a overview of our videos. As for me fighting today, honestly... I am too old. I'm happy to coach and train with my full contact fighters, many of which train for (and win) MMA, K1, San Da, Semi pro- boxing, and submission fighting. As for fighting in the street who wants to go to prison to prove a point on RU-vid. Especially at my age. Thank you for your comment.

That's the modest of a true master. Nothing to prove, nothing to demostrate. I'm pretty sure that you Sifu are a fighting beast even at your "age", I have seen your reflexes and your strenght, and also and not less important your automatic responses, and they are very capable to deal with most of the thugs over there . I was in a good number of street fights with both victories and painful defeats, and for that I guess I speak with certain knowingly. Please keep the channel this way.
