I was able to purchase a floor model at NAB 2018 and it has quickly become one of the most valuable additions to my kit. It supports my fully rigged FS7, and I was able to work the entirety of EDC Las Vegas without being absolutely fatigued.
Thanks to Jake and Jeremy for the killer BTS footage.

Hi Robert, nice video...I'm getting my FS7 in a few days (I know i'm late), but how do you remove the sony top handle so I can replace with a smallrig handle, which of course is needed for the easyrig quick release thing
@ericsanpablochu

Thanks for this Robert, do you find taht when using the easyrig that it requires a bit of force to push the rig down? I don't mean a lot (its not pulling the camera back up at neutral), but I do have to push down with a bit more effort compared to raising the camera if that makes sense. Is this normal, or is it just up to personal preference what tension you operate at? What do you prefer? Thanks
@robchado
@robchado 5 лет назад
If you're using the Vario 5, then just loosen the tension on the back spring. It should be relatively easy to adjust camera height. If you're using another EasyRig (2.5/Cinema 3), then it probably means your camera is too light. I like setting my EasyRig with a bit more tension so that it doesn't bounce back up whenever I'm walking.

I see the one guy set his up with a DSLR. I may try that out. Thanks

It's great! Just make sure your rig is heavy enough or the line will have too much resistance.

Exactly! Build a system to your comfort by rigging some accessories along with your camera.

Great video! I had a question for ya... Do you recommend the Flowcine Serene add on? I have the Varo5 and was thinking of adding it.
@robchado
@robchado 4 года назад
I have not tried the Serene Arm myself- I currently use the STABIL arm v1 and it does help with lateral movement, but would much prefer v2.

Hey Robert...just a quick question. I'm considering the Vario 5. I currently have the 2.5 500n, which kind of carries my heavier rigs (Alexa)...I was just thinking if I should get the minimax for the lighter rigs. Having said that...Can the Vario 5 handle the FS7 or FX9 in a basic V-mount and monitor set up, without fighting resistance?
@robchado
@robchado 3 года назад
Yep, I've used that setup many times! The variable load makes it compatible with nearly all cameras.

Did you get the regular Armlenght or did you get one of the extended ones. I’m a bit confused because there are 3 lengths and I’m not sure which one to pick up
@robchado
@robchado 4 года назад
Extended arm! I recommend the shorter arm if you're just doing shoulder work, but the extended arm is a must if you want to operate in front of your body.

There is also a 9” version. Would you go for this one or the 5” version?
@robchado

@@oleschreiterdopac696 I would go for the 5" personally.

The only video content out right now is on the EDC Las Vegas Instagram. The recap will likely not be done until next year.

Were you using a flare filter shooting that music event?

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I was using Schneider's new Rainbow filter. It was still in development at the time of filming but I believe is available now!

Which version vario 5 do you have (featured in this vid)? The standard or 5 inch extension?
@robchado
@robchado 5 лет назад
I have the extended (5") version! It's great for when you want to operate in a "gunner" config (seen in this video) or mounted on the shoulder.
@jambred
@jambred 5 лет назад
@@robchado thanks for the quick reply. I'm about to purchase one about next week. I need it mostly for handheld work but will operate with a Ronin sometimes. Do you think the 5 inch extension is enough for Ronin work Have you tried it with a Gimbal?
@robchado
@robchado 5 лет назад
Awesome!! It's def one of my most valuable purchases. If you're looking to use the EasyRig with a gimbal, definitely look into getting a Serene Arm as well. The EasyRig is designed to take the load from the shoulder and onto the hip, so any movement will transfer directly into the line.
@jambred
@jambred 5 лет назад
@@robchado serene arm is in the future. Right now I can only afford the easyrig itself. However I what I meant is if the 5 inch extension is enough to operate the ronin/gimbal with. I know there is a 9 inch version also but it looks ridiculously long and I'm more leaning to the 5inch. I'm getting a great deal on a new vario 5 in a group buy ($1000 off) so I have to jump on it. If you or anyone you know is interested you can let me know. Group buy ends Dec 28th.
