The word “barbecue” is a word of Taíno origins. The taínos are Caribbean natives, most of them located in Puerto Rico. In this episode, pit master José Lucca from La Manada Ribs V8 established in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, and the Guatu-Ma-cu A Boriken Taino Council will help us travel back in time to understand how barbecue was made and its impact in the modern barbecue arts.

The Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico share a very similar history with it's people, Gastronomy, and Taino history. @I Sanchez I've been in Cheyenne for over 6 years now. Retired here from the military...but it was a big mistake....lol. Never got used to the 60mph winds, or the 9 months of cold. Low taxes are not worth the suffering endured.....moving to a warmer place soon.

You have taino admixture, just like you are much more likely to have spanish and african admixture. We are multi racial and multi ethnic, not really tainos. Although, you can Identify as a Javanese if you want, but identification is not genomic reality.

There are over 34K people that identify as Taíno or Indigenous of Borikén. II understand the 500 number is related to the Concilio Taíno alone.

Los Tainos fueron los habitantes precolombinos de todas las Antillas Mayore y Menores desde Bahama, Republica Dominicana ( Quisqueya), Jamaica, Cuba, cayman island, Virgin Island, ect todos practicaban la mismas religion, ( Politeista) ellos adoraban a muchos dioses. Hay similitudes, pero hay marcadas diferencias también y eso es bueno porque en la diversidad cultura está la riqueza. Yo sé exactamente cuando alguien es de Cuba, de República Dominicana o de Puerto Rico. Es como confundir a un Español con un Portugués. Se parecen bastante, pero son claramente distinguibles.

El cacique tiene mucha razón, le damos más espacio o aceptamos más a otras culturas que la nuestra. No digamos soy hispano, blanco, negro o trigueño, tengamos el valor de pararnos en la raya y gritar; "SOY TAINO".

Pero es que no somos taínos. Somos un pueblo claramente multi-racial y multi-étnico, con mucha sangre negra además, que es algo que los neo taínos les gusta esconder y negar. Si fueramos taínos, pareceríamos a los Yanomami, los primeros hermanos de los taínos, que son del mismo lugar de donde vinieron los taínos, el orinoco. Si ves fotos de ellos, no tienen nada que ver con el físico de los puertorriqueños. Yo me siento muy orgulloso de mi herencia taína, pese a ser solamente un 10%, pero igual de negro me siento con un 9%. Me parece que muchas veces el orgullo detrás de lo taíno viene de la mano de negar tener herencia negra (y ni hablar de española).

@@catherinetorres7205 hola...en las farmacias CVS venden un kit que se llama 23andMe y en internet también, esa prueba es atraves de la saliva, la envías y ellos te envían los resultados al email. Tienen 2 opciones 1ra solo saber ancestros ( más económico) 2da para saber ancestros y datos sobre salud ( si tienes genes para predisposición a cáncer entre otras condiciones ( más costoso) en verdad lo recomiendo!!!😊
