You could never go wrong with pizza! They do make amazing pizza. If you are visiting New Haven Frank Pepe is definitely the place to visit! Great video as usual!
The best way to eat the pepe's tomato pie is to eat about half the slice, then roll up the latter half with the crust and eat it like a pizza rollup. Delicious.
Loved this video! I'm a long time CT native and pizza is without a doubt one of my favorite foods! And when i have to cut the pizza myself it seems to taste even better when it's in different sizes.
Great review - I happen to agree James. I've been going to Pepes for 50 years, never gets old and still taste the same - legendary! next time try the it with bacon/red/mozz, it's a favorite and one more thing, have it with a cold Bud Light beer or 2, makes it even better.
Definitely glad YT is throwing some of the older videos into my feed! So as my friend Jay and I were getting out of college many years ago, he (another Queens boy) decided to move to New Haven. Needless to say, I spent a ton of time up there. I agree rating it is totally subjective... NH pizza isn't better or worse than NYC, it's just fine different. And, I love it! One of the pizzerias I worked in here, the owner always said you wanted the bottom crust to come out looking like a leopard.... Nice dark spots on a beautiful gold background. That's what you get there. The clam pie is 💯💯💯 awesome, and an oddball that I had up there (not Frank Pepe's) was a mashed potato pie. Sounds weird, but it was good. As always, thanks for the great review!
Thanks for watching! It's always appreciated! Yeah, I still think NYC is the best when it comes to pizza, but I love variety and some of the pizzerias in New Haven are incredible like Frank Pepe's and Sally's. I definitely have got to get back there. I've had potatoes on pizzas before, but never mashed. That sounds interesting. I've got to try it sometime!
Loved the video Andrew, very well said regarding the comparison to NY pizza culture. Yes, perhaps there's less variety in New Haven but they do what they do perfectly. I hope you had the chance to order a Sally's pie down the street !
Thank you! Yeah, I went to Sally’s the next day. Another great establishment! I just wish I could fit more food in my stomach, because Sally’s is pretty amazing as well!
@@bonehead1170 I got that vibe from the people I've talked to in New Haven. I totally understand it. I'm just glad that I eat least got to eat at them both.
@@Jamesnu Another pie you have to review on CT. is Tipsy Tomato white shrimp pie. I bet that it would be the best shrimp pie you tasted as of yet. It comes with lemon wedges so you can squeeze that fresh lemon all over the pie and enjoy. Hey if you want, im off 95 and I will take you there myself. I ❤🍕
@@choloneressurected That sounds so awesome! I just wish there was more room in my stomach so I could eat all the amazing pizza in New Haven. Thanks for the offer! I'm sure I'll get back to New Haven sometime!
@@Jamesnu Yes, Tipsy Tomato is located in Derby CT. 10-15 min from New Haven. Im a native New Yorker and never thought I would love pizza anywhere outside of N.Y. However CT has proved me wrong.
I did a tour of New Haven recently with a local and was told that there was a reason for those different sized slices. Let's say you have two slices and aren't quite satisfied but you might not have room for a third slice, unlike a NY sliced pie, you can always choose a smaller slice on a New Haven pie.
@illmerica Wooster street is nothing like it was in a 70's when it was the real little Italy when they would tlhave fireworks from on top of the package store for hrs, the Hell Angels parked their bikes on one side of the street, you would see lots of people hanging out smoking cigars drinking ,the smell was in the air.....if u can't taste the difference something is wrong, Pepe turning in his grave....this is from someone who witnessed the real pizza
@@Jamesnu Ha, how would you know if you didn't have any? For the record, the mozzarella cheese is excellent there, and the best pizza you can get is a regular pie with sausage on it.
@@Jamesnu it’s great you enjoyed for real….I’m a foodie myself!! But everyone overrates that place and I think it gets in everyone’s head to agree with the herd….go to Boston North End location ONLY!!! Regina’s blows every NYC, New Haven, and certainly Chicago pie out of the water
