The owners of El Mercadito messed up this place decades ago. Why? Because the covered all the upper floors in the middle. When this placed open you had the first floor and it looked more like a traditional Mexican outdoor market. The upper floors were all open in the middle creating a large atrium in the middle that was flooded by light from the huge skylight. The upper floors only had businesses around the balconies. So if you were on the third floor wrap-around balcony, you could look down onto the first Years ago, they extended the upper floors all the way across so they could squeeze more vendors in there. And, of course, the skylight was then covered up. I beleive you can stiil see the skylight if you go to the top floor. I stopped going. It completely changed the vibe and not for the better.
