Tocino is reddish in color to make it look more appetizing and this is achieved by adding Saltpeter (potassium nitrate) which is also used as food preservative.
Sometimes our foods looks odd but once you tasted it you'll be amazed how good it is.. For halo halo, you should also try or check for Icebergs or Razons halo halo. It's so delicious 😊

Actually one of the Filipino culture that I am proud of is we really love to share our food whether there is an occasion or not. We feel happy everytime we see our guest/s enjoying the food we serve them. Seeing them full is like a reward for the hard work of preparing for everything. Try to go to provinces like Batangas on fiestas and try going to even just one small street or eskinita and I’m telling you, each and every houses in that whole stretch of street won’t let you pass by without eating anything from their handa/ food. Aside from that, people won’t let you leave without those big bottles full of macapuno, buko salad, caldereta, menudo, pancit and tons of different kinds of fruits. 😂😍
Hi Kristy! The best halo-halo is the "do-it-your-own" halo-halo. Certainly because you can put all your favorite halo-halo ingredients in it. 😊You definitely have the filipino taste. I enjoyed watching you eat.
Try simmering tocino in about a quarter cup of water until the water all evaporates. It kind of washes off excess sugar to avoid over-caramelized tocinos. Then finish it by frying with a bit of oil.
Optional lagyan ng konting magic sarap/msg or yung knorr toyo mansi. Ipakulo ng konti tapos tsibugan na. Sarap yan ipares sa day old na kanin di ko alam term niyan sa tagalog pero sa bisaya, tawag namin jan "bahaw". Tsaka sarap na combo yung ginisang sardinas tsaka noodles. Lalo na pag umuulan. 😋
Traditionally, Tocino is reddish in color to make it look more appetizing and this is achieved by adding Saltpeter (Salitre) which is also used as food preservative. But this recipe does not use saltire but rather something more natural and healthier alternative. ( but I don't eat Tocino 😅 )
I love chowking halo-halo, their ube ice cream is specially made for that halo-halo only.😍 As for the Mega sardines, I think it's a product from Zamboanga but I prefer 555 sardines (made @ same the place)
Try the Razon's halo halo too! Its soooo good. 😋 For tocino you can also boil it with water then when the water evaporates that's the time you can put a little amount of oil. 👌🏼
Hi! I really love your blog, full of delicious food that could make me hungry. Thank you for embracing our culture as a Korean to the Philippines. You are absolutely amazing. Ok, see you on your next blog.
AHHHH maybe three months late, but a tip in cooking Tocino: let it boil in water to make sure that it becomes tender. After the water evaporates, let the far render and the tocino cook in its own fat. Then, it becomes a matter of whether you like it caramelized or naaah. But waaah loving your vlogs Kristy!
I love how you appreciate Philippines by eating our Filipino food.🥰🥰 i wish you make/discuss your personal "CULTURE SHOCK" that you experience while staying here in the Philippines. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!😊😊 EDIT: Tocino is to be color RED because of the Curing Ingredients that used inside the Pack.
I've been in Korea 10 years ago.. I worked there for 4 years.. When I was in Korea I missed very much Filipino food...the reason why tocino is red they put coloring food... Try halo halo in mang inasal its so delicious
Hi Kristy I am a new subscriber and I am very happy and impressed of how you embrace the life of Filipino. And watching your mother eating setting in the file of wood? I am so impressed. She's more pinay inside out.Enjoy watching your videos.. From Australia.
Tocino is red because of the prague powder. It’s pink in color. Try putting water before adding the tocino, para di masyado masunog. It will evaporate naman in the process.
Out of all the videos I watched, my favorites are your mukbang videos with Eunbee which I replayed many times. I think you're born to be a mukbang star. I hope you can invite Eunbee to join you again in your next mukbang vlog.
Best halo-halo in my opinion is at Razon's sa Guagua (Razon's of Guagua). The halo-halo itself is minimalistic, with only a few ingredients, but the flavors are both individually and entirely highlighted with each scoop! The shaved ice is so soft, unusually soft and isn't a hassle to mix. Their evaporated milk that doesn't taste like regular canned evaporated milk! Some even speculated that it's Carabao's Milk (can't confirm😅). The macapuno which gives a nice texture to the other ingredients as well as balances the overall creaminess. The leche flan that gives a nice creaminess that's quite different from the taste of the milk, and is definitely a crowd favorite. And finally, the sweetened saba bananas that has an earthy flavor which showcases it's sweetness. All those combined makes a creamy, milk shake-like halo-halo! I'm definitely sure, of all the halo-halo that I've had until this very moment, Razon's halo-halo is the best♥️. You should try it!😊
You can sauté the sardines with garlic onion and labuyo if you'd like... Then add a bit of ampalaya leaves. Or at times people eat it straight from the can with soysauce-calamansi-labuyo dipping sauce
Omggg. Nahiya naman ako Kristy! HAHAHAHA like you eat sardinas and I do too but so maarte minsan na parang feeling ko pag sardines ang breakfast pinagkaitan ako ng food. Then, seeing you eating it without arte. Gossh! like, I badly wanna try it tomorrow. Thanks for being so real. 😭❤️
☺️ I really love TOCINO too.. yung sagot why TOCINO is color red, it's because of red food coloring na hinalo sa meat pero small amount lang depende sa manufacturer at kung sang lugar ito gawa. 😁 Natawa ako sa LABUYO ayaw magpakain kasi laging nahuhulog! Now pa lang ako nakakita na may nilalagay na LABUYO sa ibabaw ng corned beef before isubo! 😁 That's very interesting! I never thought this but now I know na kumakain ka ng sardines 😊 nakaka amazed! You always amaze me every vlogs you upload!
ate kristy! you should try spiced vinegar from the grocery (or make the vinegar + sili + onion + garlic clove combo and let it sit for a couple of days) then use the product as sauce for the tocino to “neutralize” the sweetness. white rice can do but its best if u pair it with a sunny-side up egg and garlic rice (sinangag) so you can have tosilog! tosilog belongs to a group of “-silog” filipino breakfasts and its really easy to make! hope u can try it in the future 😊
While watching it most specially when you’re eating at the pilipino gathering , then i just felt awwww they really are pilipino at heart imagine you mingled with your neighbors that a lot thank u ☺️ and i hope lord will always protect and take care of your family and bless you more ...
I have a suggestion for you Kristy. When you eat sardines, try to add a bit of tomato paste. The reason for that is, because sardines nowadays doesn't taste like sardines back in the seventies. Back then, the tomato sause was really good. But today's sardines taste like heavily diluted tomato sauce. What I used to do back then was put the sardines and sauce in a small bowl, cut some onions and add a bit of salt. Today's sardines need extra tomato paste in order to really enjoy the taste of the original sardines. Enjoy!!!
Wow! Nice of you to eat the corned beef. We prepare it in different way we drain out the water. Then we wait the cooking oil to be super hot then place the corned beef drained so it can be little bit crispy and then place the onioms. The best Halo halo we have is Iceberg because they are the oldest food restaurant they have already before Jollibee and Mang Inasal existed.
Also, ate Kristy Ang noodles ay inuulam ng mga Pinoy po hahahaah ( Pancit Canton, Pancit Bihon minsan) like what you have eaten, Yakisoba Chicken flavor. Because it is so malasa ba, kaya inuulam sa kanin. 💖💖💖
Perfect breakfast, corned beef and tocino, wow, love it, beef and pork... Much better if matched with garlic rice and eggs with tomatoes, yummy yum yum 😋
Tell tita that tocino should be eaten with condiments cause it is really sweet as ulam, we used to dip it in vinegar with sliced tomato and minced garlic, just add a bit water if your are sour taste sensitive but kimchi is all meats best neutralizer so you got it right. I like Mang Inasal's Halo-halo cause their shaved ice are already flavored with milk so it is more creamier.
Have you tried sardines omelette? Gisa The Ahos, bumbay (onion) camatis ( ABC), cook the sardines until dry or not too wet. Set aside, cook scrambled eggs, put the sardines in the middle of scrambled eggs and fold in like an omelette. You can add mushrooms and spinach. Sarap daaay!
Cooking tocino, longanisa, chorizo and hotdog... I usually add small amount of water (about a quarter cup) to simmer... and, let it evaporate... add small amount of oil, after... Boiling these food first so that the inside will be cook well...
Ako lng ba gumgawa pero.. Boil Muna dpt Ang tocino sa konting tubing Hanggang sa matuyuan sa mahinang apoy. Bago lgyan Ng oil sa huli..and it has ketchup that's why it's red..
Yes the native red onion and native garlic is spicy and intense. The native garlic is small but can burn your mouth if you eat it raw. I imagined putting chiu chow chili sauce in corned beef. Made my mouth water! Best halo-halo is home made with store bought candied sangkap and Arce Dairy Ube ice cream. Can't distinguish halo-halo from different restaurants. Tocino has salitre which is saltpeter or potassium nitrate. It is usually pink. I think they put red food dye because pink color makes the tocino look raw. The red probably is accepted because of red hotdogs.
masarap din yung tocino if papakuluan muna then pakakatihin yung tubig, kapag nagevaporate na lahat ng tubig saka lang lagyan ng konting oil to fry, mas malasa siya for me
I love your vlog kristy. Everytime pinapanuod ko ung vlogs mo nkkabawas ng stress. Bukod sa maganda kn npkfunny mo p and humble. Hope to see you one of these days. Ur avid fan- Jan- san fdo pampanga
Happy 180K! My go to tocino dipping sauce is soy sauce with kamatis. Soy sauce balance out the tocino sweetness and the tomatoes gives that crunchy texture.
