Happy Friday Fam! I almost didn't post this video because I was nervous about the subject matter and this story is very personal- but I feel like it's important for you all that are following me on this journey to see where I'm coming from and the mistakes I've made that have led me to being truly healthy in my body & in my brain. Mental health is a huge aspect of overall health & in the past, I've sacrificed my mental health while on a mission to achieve what I thought was "optimal health."
I now think that dogmatic diets can be very dangerous. Obviously, many diets, including the ones I mention in this video (SCD, GAPS, AIP, Keto, Intermittent Fasting, etc) can help some people deal with symptoms of illness. I'm not saying that these diets are never useful. But I do think it's important to undertake these strict diets with care, with professional guidance, and with a plan in place to move away from restriction once the symptoms are abated. I also think it's dangerous to choose a very restrictive diet modality with the sole goal of losing weight. Restrictive diets aren't sustainable long-term & though they can be useful, I think that your ultimate goal needs to be focused mostly on building a healthy, sustainable lifestyle that allows you to balance being healthy while also being able to be relaxed about food.
Finally, if your diet feels like a cult, it's not a good lifestyle choice. Everyone's body is unique and you need to have the freedom to do what works best for YOU. If you feel like you are going to be excommunicated from a community because you are craving a carb or a hamburger, that community is not helping you feel your best. Your body and your intuition should always be your compass.
If you have any questions or if you've had an experience like this, drop a comment below! I love hearing from you!

I came to you channel to hear about your copper IUD experience, but then listened to this one, too. There is so much confusion surrounding health and my heart goes out to young women who are sold so many lies about eating, image, worth, etc. You have a bright personality and a good heart. I wish you the best on your journey. Also, I hope more people hear your experience with eating because these struggles are more common than we think. I also healed myself through intuitive eating, and it's been about 3 years and I have never felt better. It's so great to have no stress around food and body anymore. ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing this story Maddy! I know sometimes it can be really hard to open up and tell the world about a very personal experience. Right now I'm recovering from an ed and your video has made me feel less alone on this journey that a lot of us get to live, so thank youuu. I have also dealt with binging and since I started recovery and started trying to get rid of the restrictions I have had more binges. I hope you never suffered from them, but if you did, could you tell me something that helped you overcame them, please? I just started recovery and still have a very long way to go, a lot to heal, learn and unlearn, but having people like you who share their story has made it easier and I'm getting better. Again, thank you!

I'm so glad you're getting better!! And I'm glad my story helps you not feel alone- you're definitely NOT alone!! So many people struggle with these issues! For me, the biggest thing that helped me not feel like binging is making sure I'm actually nourishing my body adequately and consistently throughout the day. I eat meals and snacks that have a balance of carbs and protein so my blood sugar stays balanced, and I try to eat frequently, even if its just a quick snack, so I don't get to a point where I have low blood sugar and am really, really hungry. When I was intermittent fasting, I would often feel the urge to binge but I realize now that that was just a response to my body being really HUNGRY! Be patient with yourself and give yourself grace! Recovering from an ed is tough and takes time! Just try your best to love yourself through the process!!! It sounds like you're already doing a great job!! I hope you continue to get better and better!!
