You spoke about how you have been less "strict" lately when it comes to zero waste living and although it might be scary to show online I appreciate that you still share your meals with us. It reminds me that nobody is perfect and that you should not give up on sustainability even when things get difficult. Thank you for such great content, you are such an inspiration to me :) Hugs from Aarhus

I really appreciate the support, I think it’s important to show the different levels of zero waste, even on days where I am not doing the best job 😂💪

This is one of my favorite aspects of zero waste living. There is no better feeling than using the food I already have in my home and saving some money in the process. I loved the totally relatable moment of you wanting take away, but sticking to your commitment. That spinach pasta dish looked delicious!

"This is a dish, I don't care" ~me, throwing things in a pot while exhausted and my partner peeking into the kitchen from around the corner, concerned about what concoction I'm going to be handing him for dinner.

I keep a Sharpie pen in my kitchen drawer and I write on bulk jar :) No labels required and I can wash it off and repurposed the jar.

I’ll just reuse the already labeled spice jar from the store, although admittedly I don’t always put what it says in there. Currently my salt is labeled “coriander”, but I think it’s pretty obvious it’s not by the color 😅

So far I made a potato and leek soup. Then used half a block of tofu with half jar of marinara to make a creamy pasta sauce. Then a soup with chick peas, yukon gold potato, spinach, carrot and peas and added potato starch to thicken. And now I have soups in the freezer for later. Oh and I’ve been mixing 1 part water with 1 part flour and a little salt to make a chapati flatbread in the skillet. Yay to no food waste 🌱💚✌🏼😎

Thank you for reminding me about silken tofu! I once made a spinach artichoke dip using silken tofu as the cream base b/c our small town grocery store didn’t have any vegan cream cheese, and it turned out so good! Got lots of compliments on it from people who aren’t even vegan. I was trying to remember earlier what I had used for the substitute, so thanks for sparking my memory. 😊

I did the same early December and it was tough with a family with multiple allergies and different diets BUT i made some of the best meals I've ever created before, even better than dishes I created while working as a professional chef. I think I'm going to do it every 5/6 weeks to really clear out my freezer and cupboards

I love doing this!! Whenever I go back to my parents for a while longer (I'm studying in another city) I always try and use up as many fresh ingredients as I can. When I went back for summer break last year I managed to eat everything in my freezer and fridge (they're both small but still) as well as a good chunk of my pantry. Still (obviously lol) very proud of that achievement 😌😁

What a fun, helpful video. One of my resolutions this year is to focus on being wasteful, food, energy, time, you get the gist. One thing that makes the food waste aspect difficult is that I have picky children (we are really working on making them more adventurous eaters) as well as I have different dietary restrictions than my husband, which sadly means when either of us is cooking, there are a lot of things that he or the kiddos can eat, but I cannot and it just makes it all around difficult. And finding recipes that we all like is even harder. But hey, this is why it's a resolution to try and make better habits!

@@Gittemary I sadly have to limit most green veggies or the frequency (I had green beans two days in a row and that was the wrong decision to make) because most of them trigger tummy issues. It's been about 20 years since I could eat zucchini and I miss it every day.

I challenged myself to do this before going on vacation. I was surprised by how much progress I made! But I still ended up giving away my remaining groceries to my neighbor. Btw I have a knack for craving takeout the minute I cook a bunch of food, so you're not alone! It's always when I have a ton of food, too, and I can't justify eating out.

I love this video. I do the same thing every month. My kids panic and think I don't have money for food lol. I have to tell them every time I do this that I have plenty of money but my cupboards, fridge and freezer are too full. I'll be making a vegetable soup with lentils seasoned with garam masala (hope i spelled that correctly) and a kale, cabbage and brussels sprout salad for supper tonight. Salad is bagged salad that includes dressing. Way too much plastic but I was making things easier for myself🥴 Love your channel.

I love how you don't seem to care what you wear when cooking, lol. Like most people would probably not wear a white blouse (still perfectly clean) when dealing with food that leaves stains sooo well, like red cabbage, brown gravy or greasy spots from frying mock meat in a pan. But then .... Gittemary is not "most people" and I love you for that :)))))

Hi Gittemary, i was wondering what was your take on a zero-waste way to light a candle? I've been using a lighter lately to light my candles, and I read that they were not recyclable and that they're actually terribly pollutant. I then read a comparison with matches and read that matches are less polluting, but still quite, and there are numerous toxic materials on the matches and matchboxes. I saw that some companies started producing electric lighters, but I don't know if it's any good. Do you have an opinion on this matter? Could you make a video about that, or maybe you already have? Thank you for all your work, it has helped me in my desire to be more eco-friendly and reduce my waste :).
