Metka- a type of unripened sausage, made of raw, ground and highly seasoned pork, suitable for spreading; popular in Wielkopolska and Silesia. Metka is made of smoked, finely minced meat with spices, based on semi-raw pork or beef.

We don't really have any specific bread for metka (or for anything apart from toasts). HOWEVER avoid buying bread from market or from chain shops. This is because it's made "industrially" from cheaper ingredients and with addition of preservatives. Just find any regular bakery (the most popular type of bread is "chleb wiejski", very similar to what you got in Jastrzębie), the bread just tastes better and doesn't turn into a total garbage after 1 day from purchase. Also, you can support local businesses this way ;-) Another tip: go to bakery early in the morning and you can get your bread still warm. Just put some butter on the loaf, let it melt a little from bread's warmth and enjoy the moment!

Instead of a garlic, you can try fresh sliced sweet pepper and pickled cucubmer (korniszon w occie) or fermented cucumber (ogórek kiszony).

If You enjoy it so much then You should definitely try it with Polish sour cucumbers called "Kiszone ogórki" or if You dont like them - with piquels, it's really amazing with either of them!

This best advertising for metka. They should employ you for they advertising 😂 I am not a fan of metka but the way you talking about it make me going to the Polish shop in UK and buy it. I found it in Kukawiak shop. There are 2 kind of them, metka cebulowa is made of pork and metka tatarska made of beef. If you have a chance try Tatar, which is raw mince meet with raw egg and onion. It is difficult to find it nowadays in restaurants because of health risk of eating raw meat but probably still served in some places and it is delicious.

Come to Podlasie and try our local speciality called Duch Puszczy - The spirit of wild forest :)

I strongly recommend that you try if you haven't already: Tatar (only in a good restaurant, it has to be good quality), Flaki (soup - delicious), maybe Pierogi Ruskie or Pierogi z mięsem. Today I finally found metka cebulowa in a Polish grocery shop in England! I was going to have some tonight, but this spread tastes best (for me) on a sourdough dark bread or similar. Lidl in England have a bakery in each branch and there is usually a wide choice of different breads freshly baked in store, so I'm going to pop along tomorrow morning to the nearest Lidl and buy a suitable loaf. The best one of all would be the ancient grains bread, which has a really nice, nutty flavour, but Lidl are not stocking this currently. But they have, for example, ancient grain rolls, plus the sourdough bread with seeds. I'll bet that metka cebulowa also tastes great on German pumpernickel bread, which you can also get from Lidl. I think I'll buy some of that as well.

Metka means minced meat. It is a German loan word. In Germany we call such a spread ' Zwiebelmett'. I loved to eat Hackepeter with Zwiebeln(Onions)spread on a bun, during my elementary school years in Berlin.

I personally like black bread with sunflower seeds. But I think best try for metka would be ciabatta buns (not italian ones, polish ones) - buns made from a bit different flour and with onion inside. Also pretty good buns are with pumpkin seeds. Edit: I checked out in Biedronka, they no longer make ciabatta with onion :/

I love it when you try to say Metka Cebulowa. Polish is hard and you are actually saying "Mietka Sebuloła". I am amazed when people understand that you are trying to say Metka Cebulowa, and sell you the right product. Have a great day sir. By the way did you visit Zakopane? It's a tourist paradise during summer and during the winter. It is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The architecture is very specific to that region. Regional food is also very specific, for example they make their own cheese that you can not buy anywhere else on Earth because they patented it. Zakopane is a place full of wild animals that like to come close or even take tour through the town of Zakopane. Zakopane is surrounded by mountains, ski resorts, hiking trails, tourist attractions and sport activities. The weather is very different from the rest of Poland and it can surprise you in good or bad ways so I warned you about it. The town is very colorful and completely different from every other town you have ever seen because of the specific architecture. It was the favorite place of John Poul II, who was the Pope from Poland and there are many memorials places he stayed and visited. You will find outdoor swimming pools open even during winter because the water is pumped from deep inside earth and is heated in natural and geothermical way. You can visit caves, there is even the longest cave in Poland (23.7km long and very deep) that I do not recommend visiting because with no experience it is very dangerous, but there are other caves "safe" and open for tourists. If you are a climber or skier you will love Zakopane. If you are a hiker you will love it even more because you can literally spend weeks hiking in the wilderness.

I think I'll buy some metka producers stock, a spike in sales incoming! I'm Polish and I honestly don't know anyone who eats this stiff 😅. Beef tartare on ths other hand....
