Back in 2011 I went to Brick Lane in NYC...made a huge mistake by mixing in the rice and eating nan(?) bread, two mango shakes, glass of milk and some glasses of water lol. Needless to say I passed the challenge but I threw it all up when I left the restaurant and started walking to the train station. No one told me that the shit would expand in my stomach lol.

TLDR; Angelsilhouette is wrong Dear Angelsilhouette, Upon your message and received praise for knowing- or not knowing it all, I decided to make some small corrections to your theory on how to improve the LA Beasts' performance in spicy challenges. If anything is unclear or you notice I'm wrong, feel free to discuss. As far as I know fats don't metabolise other substances. Fats get broken down into glycerol and fatty acids, whereafter they are transported to the mitochondria for oxidation (energy retrieval). Looking at the molecular structure of capsaicin, it seems like a peptide. Peptides and proteins get broken down by proteases (like trypsin). The problem is that this happens mostly in the small intestine, whereas the stimulation that causes the puking happens before digestion. Chewing well and drinking lots of water while eating spicy stuff so you digest it as quickly as possible is probably a bad idea. Since your stomach and especially small intestine (which is not as well protected as the stomach) will get a quick overload on irritation, which will result in your body wanting to get rid of the harmful substance by puking. Besides, capsaicin binds to the vanilloid receptor 1. Upon stimulation of this receptor, we feel a burning sensation, since it is a receptor for irritants (like capsaicin). Sugar (glucose, sucrose, lactose etc.) binds to TASTE receptors, which is a different thing. Sugar doesn't function as an antagonist to the capsaicin receptor. Instead, they function (mostly) independently; the receptors on your tongue continuously need calcium to fire. Since the capsaicin and sweetness receptors lie close to eachothers, stimulation of sweetness receptors does decrease calcium concentration in that area. Leading to less stimulation of other receptors and a lessened sensation of pain. The menthol indeed does have a cooling effect, since it actually binds to a cold receptor and may alleviate the "hotness" of capsaicin. Fun fact: actual heat or extreme sourness (as in acid burn) can stimulate the same receptor capsaicin binds to. Mustard and wasabi also contain a compound which binds to this, which is why those foods also can feel sort of hot/spicy. Let me correct your advice: 1. Eat a lot of food before doing the challenge, so you increase the surface area and volume of your stomach and the capsaicin does not irritate your stomach too much in one place, since there is a thick layer of food in your stomach. Besides, eating lots of food will stretch your stomach. This sends signals to your brain which initiate digestion in the body. Preferably eat food containing fiber and complex carbs for better poop forming and less diarrhoea (bread, vegetables etc.) 2. Chew very well and drink water! If the capsaicin is evenly distributed in your stomach, there is less chance that capsaicin accumulates near the stomach lining, causing overstimulation and throwing up. 3. To decrease the heat: engorge your mouth in flavour pre-eating, up to the point where you can barely distinguish salty from sweet. That is the moment to eat spicy things!
