I just started watching your videos and am enjoying going over many of your previous very educational ones. I got dinged from eBay because quite a few of my “eBay standard envelopes” do not show a “delivered” scan. Since I’m new I thought I was supposed to “have eBay step in”. Boy was I wrong. Learned a tough lesson but will keep trudging on. Thanks for this great video.
Nearly every time I create a video that shows how I think something should be done...it's because I've messed it up at some point. LOL Live and learn...and share. Hopefully I can help someone avoid some of the pitfalls I'm evidently good at finding.
Great advise. I got a notice yesterday from eBay an item I sold in June was delivered 4 days later. Now it's the Credit Card Bank that is contesting the purchase. The buyer's account has been suspended by eBay. I called the buyer and the phone number no longer works. I sent eBay a screen shot that the package was delivered but I have no control of what payment method the buyer used as it did go through eBay. I'm awaiting the results.
When eBay first switched over to managed payments, I ran into this same issue. Like you, if you don't give me any control over the payment method, I shouldn't assume the risk. Mine came out in my favor as eBay just covered it. But I would love to know how this comes out.
Hey Scott, curious if you have any advice on how to reset my shipping/payment options. I went down the custom t-shirt route thru a trusted third party website and now I can't post a new product without it trying to make the sale through the crazy links from that third party. Any advice is welcome, appreciate all that you do!
It sounds like you have set the policies for the tshirts as your default shipping option. So, on your computer, open a policy you'd rather have as your default. You should see the option to make it the default.
I had this issue on another platform. Buyer scammed me. Photos of parcel signed for by her, GPS, and photo of her house. She claimed she wasn't home. She got refunded. I lost £200
Thank you for sharing. I had almost the same scenario just a couple of weeks ago. Package was delayed and buyer contacted me and Ebay. I had to refund her money but received the package like a day or two later. I have messaged her twice with no response. Does this mean i have no recourse?
So I gather that eBay does *not* automatically refund on "item not received" claims, if the tracking number was included and you communicated courteously with the complaining buyer? Or is another step needed to resolve such a claim and make it go away? It sounds like you're saying that once you politely inform the buyer that the problem is on their end, the "item not received" claim is thereby resolved? Because the whole scenario begs the question: Why does eBay *allow* "item not received" claims in the first place, in such cases wherein eBay fully knows that a tracking number was included and that the package was delivered? (Btw, I very much agree that good customer service, particularly clear and polite communication, which requires some time and effort, is the key to solving most problems and buyer complaints.)
I think this is a fair question. A buyer could file an Item Not Received case simply because the item never showed up. There's a lot of reasons that could happen. It could be that there was an issue the seller wasn't aware of and filing the claim gets the ball rolling on getting it sorted out. But, eBay doesn't automatically side with the buyer when they open these cases. This one turned out great. When I let the buyer know where it had been collected, they tracked it down and got things sorted. They sent me a very nice note. But, the case isn't for only those times that it's been marked as delivered. It could be that it went a long, long time stuck in shipping limbo.
Hey ChachingKing! I just had a buyer file an "Item Not Received", but the item is still in transit. It is being held up at a notoriously slow USPS processing facility in Florida. Should I still update the tracking even though it hasn't been delivered yet? I called eBay customer service and they said to do nothing right now, as the item is still in transit, but just would like your thoughts as well. Thank you so much! :)
I would do exactly what eBay is recommending. Hopefully, it will get there soon. But your odds of eBay covering it are better if you follow their instructions.
This happened the 1st month of my reselling journey. I did the same as you and followed the tracking and provided all the information I could to the buyer with no fault pointed to the customer. It was resolved and Ebay took care of both of us.
Hi, what about this situation? Package is in transit from facility to facility endlessly. Buyer requests a refund because too much time has passed. I start a missing mail search and ask for it to be returned to me. Refund buyer. Item shows up at buyer's address anyways. Is there anything I can do other than politely ask for the buyer to resend it back to me? If they ignore?
I've had that exact situation happen once. It was the holiday season. Shipping was crazy show. I had to refund the buyer. The only difference was that I had a very ethical buyer. They reached out to me before I knew that it had arrived. They offered to repurchase it, but I declined. It wasn't high value, and I wanted to reward ethical behavior. I wanted them to come out ahead. I think it's perfectly OK to send them a note and state that you can see that it's arrived. You could ask them if they would like for you to send them a return label at your cost, or if they would like to repurchase it. If the ignore you or refuse, contact eBay on Facebook and ask them to step in. If eBay forced the return, they would probably return your funds themselves. Certainly not rude on your part and completely reasonable.

I have 2 to 3 of these cases open at any given time. In February, I have 14 of them at once due to USPS issues. eBay's policies on these are ridiculously poor. My defects that I end up fighting come up from these as well.
I don't have any defects, but I do like how Poshmark does this more than I do how eBay handles it. I have a package that hasn't arrived to the Poshmark customer yet. It is overdue. Both the seller and the buyer get a note that it's running late. That's it. No penalties or buyers fussing to the seller since it's out of the seller's control. I do like that better.
Thank you for posting this useful information. A while back I had a buyer tell me the mail carrier gave her the wrong key that opens a parcel locker. Item not received. We waited a few days if a neighbor got the item by mistake. I checked tracking at USPS webpage and it said it was undeliverable and was sent back to me. I'm left scratching my head wondering what the heck happened?? It sounded kinda fishy but I still gave her a refund.
I've had some really strange stuff like that over the years. I had a text book come back to me once and it was COVERED in orange stickers. Turns out, an inmate ordered it, and they can't receive used textbooks. But the prison destroyed it while checking it out. Lol
Boy, that is a really interesting one. I wonder if the person was picking up several items and the post office accidentally grab their parcel along with them. Hopefully it's all a mishap and person returns it to the post office. I have to sign for parcels upon pick up with ID no matter what it is. Is that not a thing in the USA?
You do not always have to sign for items picked up from the post office. You don't have to sign unless the parcel is marked as requiring a signature. I'm confident this one was just an honest person and an honest mistake.
Excellent video! Am dealing with international item not delivered right now. Buyer opened request “item not received.” By updating tracking, which I haven’t did yet, is it possible that item could be delivered? Also just wondering it you save all your shipping labels in the event you may need them for insurance reimbursement if package doesn’t get delivered.
I always so through ebay, so all of my tracking labels are saved in eBay. I think the numbers expire in 90 days on USPS. So, I don't keep them myself. Also, if you ship through the eBay International Shipping Program, you should be covered anyway. Ebay should cover it. But, update that tracking right away. That's the most important thing.
I ordered from an eBay dealer and it went Fed X, said it was delivered but never showed up. Emailed merchant, no response. Opened case with eBay and they said it was delivered, they said case closed. Me being pissed off went to Fed X site and there was a delivery picture of a packages surrounded by mail boxes. Opened another claim with the picture supplied and informed them we are a storefront, we were open and that there are no mail boxes at this address. they responded package stolen and refunded. I'll never know where they sim-delivered my package to. Yes weird stuff happens...
100%. That's truly a delivery problem. Not much the merchant could do, but FedEx messed it up. For Melody and me, if it's obvious that the buyer isn't running some sort of scam, we usually try to take care of the customer even if eBay says that we don't have to.
Thanks a lot for your videos!! I have a question, I sold a pair of Nike sneakers for $65 CAD + shipping, but instead of going directly to the buyer, they are going to an authentication center. How's that work? Did I do something differently when I listed them, or did the buyer request this?
I have several cases where I shipped, and sent from our local post office and it took 2 to 3 weeks to arrive to their destination, when it should only take maybe a week. So, some areas are having issues with delayed unacceptable late deliveries.
Great information Scot-would you be able to tell me how to keep messages like that for future use-is it on the clip board,,,-I'm talking "Dumb it down" :)
Are you talking about my responses? If so, if you open my description, I typed out all three of them for you. Just highlight them all, right click and then click COPY. Next, open a document in whatever word processor you like. Then, right click where you would normally type and click PASTE. Then save it with a document name you can remember. Does that help?
@@TheChaChingKing I’ve been wanting to use some other template things like that in my listings, but I didn’t know how to save them without typing them over again
