Iran comes from the name "Aryanam Vaejah" or the land of Nobles or Aryans, (meaning of which was later changed and abused by the Hitler's fascist regime). The Greek called us Persia and thus the international name Persia. One of the races in Iran is the Persian race, who speak Persian. Reza khan Pahlavi (the first of the two kings of the Pahlavi dynasty) changed the name of the country from Persia to Iran after 8000 years of being called Persia in 1935. Reza Khan Pahlavi changed the name before the second world war as a sign of solidarity with Adolf Hitler and Nazis. Great info. It's good to add the name of our language is Parsi, however, since Arabs don't have the character P, they pronounce it Farsi. I still call it Parsi everywhere. Persia comes from the word PARSI
