Echidnut made me come back into being weeb again.. he made me fall in love with isekai genre in general and introduced me 2 of one of the best animes i have ever seen (mushoku tensei and re:zero).. his jokes makes me genuinely laugh and he is the only anime channel i have notif turned on. Best Anime Original, anime of the year nomination, and Opening for Odd Taxi are 100% deserved; best voice actor felt kind of weird, and best character design nomination is arguable but it doesn’t win the category.
How on earth did oddtaxi not get nominated for anime of the year on that website? That is insane. Although Mushoku Tensei is number 1 for me, oddtaxi is a close second. I really hope that crunchyroll doesn't exclude it in their awards.

Thank God, you talked about that bread scene in mushoku tensei. That was straight up one of the best animation of the year. That didn't even add up to the story, but they animated that 7 seconds for no reason and it's frickin beautiful
Love you for including shadow's house, it was one of my favorites this year due to its setting and the ending was entirely on another level from others, prob the first anime to watch the whole 24 minutes of it
Gugu's death hit me like a truck. I know to myself that i should be ready for the death of the introduced characters but damn i literally went to the bathroom just to shed a tear.
Idk what you mean the ending had me wrecked 😭 my grandma recently passed away and she was starting to get dementia too. It was just so realistic. I think the ending was fantastic and I can’t wait to see what they do with that character now.

It's tough man. I agree with most picks on your list Echidnut. So many shows deserve the "AOTY" award because so many of them were unique and creative in their own respective ways. For me personally it has to be Vivy. The show had some breathtaking visuals and animations (specially the fighting scenes) along with beautiful OST's. Vivy herself was an amazing character and the development she and Matsumoto went through the series was done well and pretty naturally if you look closely into it. The plot was incredibly intriguing and had a sarisfying end not to mention the insane plot twist that made my jaw drop in episode 10 (the ED foreshadowed it in a clever way). Side characters were also done well, it's one of the few animes which made me care for majority of he side characters even if they appeared for 1 to episodes because all of them (yes even the andriods and other robots) felt human and portrayed to think their lives actually mattered in the society of Vivy's world. The last episode was tough to watch (specially with the whole Vivy on stage part) and the lyrics of the song in this episode beautifully concluded everything that happened in all the previous episodes. Truly one of the best anime originals and anime as a whole I've seen in a long time. Wit Studios and everyone on board with this passion project did a beautiful job and this show absolutely deserves all the success it could get.
I agree, on my MAL review for Vivy I named it my AOTY 2021 despite the flaws I cannot overlook (mainly the logic behind Project Singularity being silly and full of loopholes).

Actually re zero was better than mushoku tensei I am saying this as I have watched both of them. in Mushoku Tensei everything I watch was guessable from first. But RE zero is a complete package of mystery and drama. I didn't even knew what was going to happen the next second. But mushoku animation was good no donut about that. Character development is definitely re zero. Season 3 of re zero anime unlikely in this year.
I really like your analisis with how you say stuff about all the honorable mentions and take into account that only the second part of s2 or ReZero happened this year... Although I do think Subaru might have not went through as much character deverlopment there, disregarding him because of that is weird, he was still very badass and the second parts of the arcs are always satisfying because that's when you actually see how the deverlopment changed him

@@leafasleep no not at all. Its just straight up romance with and heartbreaking backstory to every character. It has one of the best character development ive seen and its not a reverse harem despite the first few episodes looking like it is.
I'm a little sad that 86 didn't score higher. It could just be not having a resolution till the end of the winter season '22 for this arc, but I am absolutely loving it. This year is absolutely the year of Mushoku Tensei but as the progenitor of an entire category it may have had a slight advantage.
@@nd7231 Studios were scared to adapt something that could be contreversial, there's a reason why Whitefox collabed and made another studio for mt so it lessens the chances to hurt their own studio and it's reputation, also the Web novel is a decade old and it's not suprising Light novels get adapted pretty late look at "Hako to Maria" It's pretty good but no adaptation yet
@@nd7231 I don't know, I saw 86 I thought it wasn't anything special. None of the characters really stood out to me besides Shin and the major. It was the best mecha though of this season but I preferred previous ones much more like Code Geass and Gurren Lagann. Moving on though, I'm not sure if China or Korea do fantasy better but I wouldn't say that I can agree with the Korean side based on a few manwha that I've read like Tower of God and Solo Leveling. Although I will say that I don't really know much about the Chinese side besides that one time travel anime that everybody said was good. I thought mushoku tensei was great and I liked everything about it like the immersiveness, the music, the openings, animation and much more. I'm not entirely sold on the characters but maybe thats just because they haven't grown up yet. The fantasy world though is somewhat interesting maybe not the most original thing out there but definitely interesting.
I loved the first part of 86 but the second one didn't do as well. The little girl's story being the focus really turned it off for me, I wasn't hooked at all with her backstory

Great taste, agreed with most of your selections, rare to find someone with similar taste to mine. I've only watched 80ish new animes for 2021. Anime you should've watch? World Trigger S2 and S3. Easily from those 6, second choice would be Yuru Camp S2, but S1 was better.
While the visuals of OP2 are better , Im missing the song of OP1 a lot. It was the perfect song to set up the tone to (at least the way Im enjoying Ousama Ranking) start the episode. But whatever, everyone have their taste, and I understand you prefer the "epicness" of OP2 than the chill enthusiasthic vibes of starting a journey of OP1
The best VA of 2021 is Yumi Uchiyama (Rudeus). The most controversial MC of 2021 unexpectedly voiced by a woman. And Rudy is also the hardest charaxter to voice in 2021. From the start of MT until the end of MT which is the end of Yumi's role, sadly I have never seen she get the appreciation she deserve especially from MT fans.

Odd Taxi is still my pick for anime of the year because of how it managed to feel complete within a single season. Been a long time since ('ve seen one like it
World Trigger is slept on honestly, although the plot isn't really all that great. I try to recommend it on the battles and strategy alone (it somehow became my favorite most rewatched fight scenes) but nobody wants to make that kind of lengthy investment ;;;;;

I feel like To Your Eternity was forgotten. You ranked it higher than Vivy and Odd Taxi in one of your tier list videos (I remember because I didn't think anything would top Vivy, and IMO, nothing did). Maybe it didn't stand out in one category, but it deserves a mention at least.
It has the best first episode of any anime I have seen so far but after ep 12 it went downhill both in story and animation. Maybe that is why? If they could have made all episodes as good as the first one. It would be the best of the best.
@@nd7231 Ironically, Vivy's first episode was the boring one, unless you watched both episodes (were they both broadcast at the same time? I remember smth like that but idk) some people didn't bother continuing. Now To Your Eternity's first episode had absolutely everyone talking about it as AOTY for the first episode alone, sadly it kinda dropped the ball. Up to your own tastes but personally, Vivy built up to a peak, while To Your Eternity started at its highest point. Where they land is usually how they get rated after all.

We are completely different lol, I watched many shows this year that just had something special, and there's still plenty more that I've heard good things about that I haven't come around to (was watching LotGH tho so I wasn't slacking off). And about SpyxFamily? Yeah I saw the trailer and it didn't strike me as anything important, the only reason I'll watch it is because the characters seem like they'll be hilariously cute so that's why. There's so many good shows that came out this year its not even funny, saying that as you only watched 2 (have never heard about Duke of Death) there should be at least a couple more that you'll enjoy.
@@nd7231 Perhaps you're right about that "too long" bit, the longer you've been the more likely you are to get chained to the past as your benchmark. Your "thousand masterpieces" bit is a double edged sword: you do get a better understanding what's actually 'good', but you simultaneously shoot down anything that doesn't immediately fit your criteria before it has a chance to show you what its really made of. 86 is good don't get me wrong, but if that's what you like then there are at least a couple of shows that are on par or slightly better (granted I haven't finished season 2 so maybe it gets better/worse but I doubt it would change my mind on its quality that easily). You're just limiting yourself honestly but maybe you don't have enough time to watch anything that isn't 100% worth your time idk. I feel like we're just talking over each other, I haven't really disagreed with anything you said about To Your Eternity, and if anything, you're proving my point about not giving it a chance to show itself off if you're still talking ep 1 (although it didn't really have too much to offer overall anyway). In any case, I'm gonna plug in LotGH here since no one else is gonna pay attention to it, although I imagine someone such as yourself has already been past it long ago.

Subjectively, her design, personality and voice actress are superior. These are my reasons both factual and opinionated but at the end of the day, to each their own.

I think some of my favorite anime of 2021 were: Re zero s2p2 Quintupplets s2(I feel like the art style got worse, the characters felt more rubbery than last season) Jobless reincarnation Nagatoro san Kaguya love is war s2 If senko san, Peter grill, Danmachi S3, Date a Live, Asterisk war, Chivalry of a failed knight, and uzaki came out in 2021 they would be here too.
For the Anime you have not watched I CANNOT stress enough that You NEED To watch Fruits Basket. While the Final Season easily surpasses anything I season 1 and 2 presented they are also worth watching BUT it'll all be for the Finale in the End the older season were VERY hard entertaining and wholesome with a lot of character development, Romance and slice of life moments along with a bit of mysterious aura to it; BUT when all the mysteries were revealed and the Finale came into action the Anime DID NOT stop pulling on your heart strings and the ending of this journey Literally Made me cry AN ACTUAL HOUR NON STOP(Fuelled by me watching all the openings and endings again which made me remember the whole journey but still it was 1 hour). So yeah just Watch it. Please.
Yeah surprisingly the final season was the best season of Fruits Basket. I agree, it's like everything in the final season wrapped nicely with everything coming to a close and stuff, really hits right in the feels.
Rimuru is far from being perfect, he just has a lot of people helping him. A lot of the things he achieves wouldn’t be possible were it not for people like Benimaru, Shuna, Souei, Diablo, and of course, best girl Raphael.
That is why dude. Rirumu is too perfect because he has all the help. He has a true dragon, an army of demons, a bunches of demon lord, kings, queen, .... He has so much help that come as Rapael has planed. Slime is a good show for entertainment

The only thing that keeps Slime from being S Tier is the fact that it barley has any 3 dimensional characters. It´s basically an extended harem plot with very good world building and storytelling, but when you only look at the personalities, they´re pretty bland so far.
@ʟᴀᴢʏ 死 I think the anime def wasn’t the best adaptation because it took a cunning and occasionally sinister character into basically a innocent slime who is just there for fun. I think the ln rimuru with all of his inner monologues is a much better and more interesting character and if you have the time I highly recommend you to give it a try.

0:42 one on the top right was a very special one ( link click ) It has an incredible concept and it has suspenseful elements that can give you goosebumps tingling right down your spine. The characters are great and there was an episode that made me freaking cry real bad I rated it a 10/10 I watched it a long time ago so I really don't remember anything that went wrong with it at all, not that I think there even is
I'm relatively new to watching anime, just over a year, so I didn't know about the Crunchyroll anime awards. When he said that the awards are gonna suck like last year, I just kinda chuckled a bit, because I didn't really understand. but after looking at the nominations for pretty much every category for the CAA, I can understand where he's coming from.

I really wish Idaten Deities had been more mainstream. It was impeccable in story telling, setting, characters, plot flow, visuals, dialogue, and it's realistic feel.

I know it'll turn off a lot of people if Mushoku claims so many of the awards but I felt bad for my man Rujierd for being totally ignored in the best supporting man category. Levi is a badass and has a lot of hype moments, but Rujierd as a richer backstory and his motivations are much easier to empathize with. And although little, his character growth after 566 years means a lot.
Haven't seen anyone talk about Kageki Shojo and honestly, you are missing out It's a serious drama with a diverse cast and covers many serious topics usually less discussed in Anime. It is in that sense the smaller WEP but without a shitty ending and a more happy atmosphere
My top 5 is: 1) re obviously 2) jobless 3) to your eternity 4) Tokyo Revengers 5) slime and I feel demon slayer is an honorable mention, they are always good.
