I do not routinely comment on RU-vid videos, but I am compelled to comment there to THANK YOU for finally solving what has been driving me absolutely crazy for the last 3 weeks. I fully rebuilt / replaced the carb and engine coil on my 13 year old PB-250. Started great, but bogged endlessly and never had consistent power. THEN is just started dying whenever I hit the throttle. I had this thing apart more times that J.Lo has been divorced, and as of yesterday was ready to throw in the towel and buy a new one. I found this video in a last ditch effort to save her, and within about 75 seconds, it's running like BRAND NEW again. Why was there no mention of this small set screw in ANY of the Carb instructions or Carb replacement videos??? Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars and saving my perfectly good blower from a landfill!

Dude. I was extremely skeptical. I followed your instructions exactly and every single thing you said was true. The plastic plug came right out to my surprise. I turned the screw to the left and it ran like a top. Thanks so much. Saved me a trip to the small engine repair shop.

Thank you for the great tip/procedure! Also, for anyone who does not have the right tools: I didn't have the right size punch but a 5/64" allen wrench heated with a cig lighter worked well.

I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. ru-vid.comUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.

Used a 3/32 punch (slightly round at the end is all I could find) and my cigar lighter, warmed the end of the punch up, and stuck the punch in the plastic whole, small sizzle and smoke, and after 2 minutes pulled that sucker out like a charm...Thank you! Now just waiting on the replacement coil to install to start my Echo PB 250 LN up again, and use a small screwdriver to adjust the carb.

I see that your video was posted up 5 years ago. Today, it really did help me. My echo had been doing the same thing and that's because I had just picked it up from a repair shop. The man that repaired it, told me that the leaf blower was just too old. He had replaced carburetor, but the issue was bogging down. Because he had already replaced the carburetor, the rubber piece you use to heat up wasn't there making my repair extremely easy. I followed your instructions while pressing the trigger and wow, the leaf blower runs like new. Thank you so much for this video

Thanks a million! My pb255 hasn’t run in a year. I’d replaced all seals, gaskets, bulb, lines, filters, spark plug and it wouldnt fill the primer bulb in 2019 but after all that it still wouldn’t run. Out of utter necessity I decided to give it another try again today. The primer bulb wouldn’t fill so the blower would only run for a short spurt and then shut off. I had the fuel lines to the carb backwards!Fixed that, it would run but would bog under load like your video shows. Thank goodness I found your video! I used the torch method to remove the black plug as you showed. Used the end of a small broken piece of a needle file I had laying around. I leaned out the mixture screw by turning counter clockwise just until it would run smooth at high rpm, not bog, had good transient throttle response and didnt smell dry, run too hot or sound like it was running lean. Kudos to you! This video got my tool up and running again. Many thanks. 🙏

BRILLIANT. We have two of these in the family and both run too lean. They always start right up fine when it’s cold. BUTTT😡 then I have to play 1/4 choke games for 20 seconds to keep it running or it dies. Then it will finally run full throttle . Trouble is both of them are obviously not running anywhere near what should be full throttle ever. I can’t wait to give this a try. Thanks a million!!

GREAT JOB! Same thing happened to me. Son tried to start the blower without the switch tuned to "ON" position so when I started the blower it almost sounded like a fouled plug. Replaced plug and same thing. Almost went to the Depot and picked up a new one but decided to google the problem and low and behold, I found you. The tip about putting a heated punch in the plastic plug is AWESOME. I don't think I would have been able to pull it out and adjust the carb without this tip.

Thank you very much! Did a full tune up with the echo tune up kit (plug, Air Filter and Fuel Filter) as I have had this PB-250LN for quite some time and never did a thing. Had the same exact bog down issue when I tried to apply full throttle after I completed the tune up! Why did they cap that adjustment screw? BRUTAL! I didn't have a punch and also didn't want to go anywhere with this Covid-19 virus in air to get one. I dug the cap out with a pointed small screw driver. Made adjustment and I am back in business! Like many other posts -- you saved me from buying a new one! Oh, and that stupid black cap was discarded. Thanks again!

That's great! I'm glad you got it going... why'd they put the cap on? My theory is a lot of people would just throw it away and go buy a new one... but I'm sure they'd tell you it's in the name of a environmental issue..

My father gave me this leaf blower right after he bought it because he didn’t like how it ran and I told him the carburetor just needed tweaking. I knew where the screw was but I was wondering why did they put a plug there. I think I can use an easy out to get it out. Nice video. 👍🏻
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 5 лет назад
yea a easy out would probably work. I think they put the plug there for emmisions reasons... but then when there's a problem like this, they don't want you to adjust it. This fix won't fix it every time.. but it will a lot of the times...

Worked perfectly. I can now resume being the mad blower! I found a coarse screw turned into plastic cap worked as a puller, no problem. I think the screw vibrates out of tune with use as I needed to re-adjust every few blows.
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 4 года назад
Yes that'll work great.. and you could be right about the vibration.. You could take that screw completely out and put a drop of lock tight on the threads, screw it back in and adjust it properly, then it should stay.. But then you'll have a hard time adjusting it again if atmospheric changes causes it to need adjusted again, so I don't really recommend it, but it's an idea.

Great video my dear sir! Yea the manufacturers have made it hard by removing high and low fuel adjustment screws or caping them off to tune these little beasts. Epa regs.. thanks epa. They don't want us adjusting these cause we don't have the equipment to tune them in the field. They are afraid of running lean or rich. That is the high screw and opening it gives more air to the diaphragm pumping more fuel. Which it needed

Nice vid. The other critical thing to check on these bogging leaf blowers is the fuel supply line. That line is the one that goes into the tank with the fuel filter attached to its end. if it gets the slightest tear or hole or slit in it, it will suck air and have the same effect as carb needle being too lean. Simplest way to tell if it's a fuel line problem is that the primer bulb keeps running dry.

I had this same problem on my PB250 but this " fix " was not the issue . My exhaust port was almost blocked by carbon. I cleaned this port and the PB250 is brand new again. Just like it says in the Owners manual. I have been told it is due to cheap oil and gas .Thanks

Excellent. Yes I am aware of the spark arrestor in the muffler causing issues sometimes. I wish I would have mentioned that in the video as a possible culprit..

I really appreciated the tip. I have a brand spanking new one I just got to replace the Hitachi someone pilfered, and while I still do not feel the same power even with this fix the difference is amazing. The only reason haven't returned the Echo is this coronavirus bull pucky has my state refusing to return merchandise. I was going to buy another one today when my Great Grandson said, I should look at some videos here for a solution. I never seen much use for these dam computers, and cell phones, think the whole thing is asinine, but you sure changed my thinking, if its good information then I guess it's a good thing. Take care. My PB 25cc backpack Blower I got for my grandson bogged immediately. It had 2 restrictor plates above the spark arrestor. 1st plate cut the exhaust port in half.2nd cut it in half again. I removed the second and the machine woke up. After some more research I hope to find I can remove the first and let it breath. The second is for noise restrictions and emissions for the left coast princess state. Exhaust restriction will foul a carbs delivery. Without allowing the exhaust to breath for any period will cause fouling. A quick remedy to increase RPM is to lean the engine to compensate for exhaust and intake fouling. Do the exhaust first and early. Then you should never have to lean the fuel air mixture.
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 3 года назад
Yes leaning it could cause it to run hot. Not sure if those restrictor plates are a necessity. Race cars run with open headers so there's virtually no restriction, but sometimes a 2 cycle needs some back pressure to pressurize the fuel tank... so I can't be sure that you can remove both of those and get away with it. You could try it and see how it runs.. or a search of threads from google might reveal if you can remove both of them.

He missed the typical issue with it bogging down. You will need to remove the high speed jet, inspect the tip of it, you will fine a tiny hole at the very tip. You need to unclog it with a single strand of wire. Reinstall it all the way in then back it out about 1.5 turns the adjust it after it warms up.

I spent another 2 hours today trying to get my Echo pb250ln to run. First I cleaned the exhaust port then cleaned the fuel filter and tried to adjust the carb with a small screwdriver. No joy, I'm stuck with 2/3 throttle as high as it will go. This is the only Echo product I have had problems with.
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 Год назад
Yes this particular model wasn't built that great.. At least in my opinion. Most echo products are very good. Could be the carburetor, but no way to know without buying one. Then if it's not, it's wasted money. Could the engine be worn out? Maybe low on the compression? Just throwing it out there...
