Honestly? No. I'd rather they make something new, unique and wonderful instead of continuously doing the same thing over and over again until they run it into the ground. We shouldn't encourage creative people to continue doing what they already know work, we should push them to create wild new experiences that push the mediums they're in forwards. I hope Mobius will leave Outer Wilds behind so they could march on to different territory, exploring new concepts and mechanics - but still keeping that creative spark and spirit which made Outer Wilds so good.

@@The_KingDoge I don't know why you had to insult me while saying that, but I'll let it pass. As for your point, I wasn't referring specifically to the "alien" requirement, nor did I say sticking to sci-fi was undesirable. I was referring to what I saw as the general intent of both the original comment and your reply, as well as a recurring theme in many discussions about this game and similar ones: I don't want the public's expectations or a one-time success to restrict the developers' creative freedom. I would personally much prefer to see a new concept being explored by these people, rather than have them stick to any specific theme or setting only because they're expected to. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Outer Wilds and I'm a big fan of sci-fi in general - I'd be very excited if their next project is similarly themed - I just don't like these restrictions. I do realize that the original commenter probably didn't mean this, and that my reply may have been interpreted as an attack - this wasn't my intent. I do however feel that if we, as a whole, changed our attitude from "I hope they keep doing this" to "I hope they surprise us with something new", we could get a lot more interesting and original experiences from creators.

I think I learned a little about myself through this game, or at least, I realized my cognitive dissonance with the theme. When I learned that the Owlks/Strangers were afraid of the end, afraid if impermenance and the Eye, I kept telling to myself that the journey's coming to a close and everything has to end eventually. I was unconsciously trying to convince myself that I'm ready and that I'm doing better than them. Now that I look back on it, I realize that I was just as afraid of the end as they were. When The Prisoner left, I panicked, I didn't want him to leave, I subconsciously knew what was coming next and I was desperate for just a little more time with him. When I reached the end, I was relieved to be in his company again, and I invited him to play alongside the Travellers in the final song. When it was time to finally collapse the Eye, I was terrified, for a moment I hesitated, looking at everyone around me, and I jumped in.

Fearing the end of something good is natural, accepting is a long process. It means trying to put your fears and anxieties to the side a little more each time, and doing the right thing despite those feelings. When you're sad something is coming to a close it means that you really liked it, that sadnesss is natural, but slowly you can try to accept tha fact that it's over and maybe even realise that some things are better that way, some things need an end to leave something in your mind. Of course sometimes things end abruptly, not everything ends when it is appropriate or with a powerful message, that's life. Try to think that all the complete experiences (even the smaller ones) you had in your life are a success, because lots of things could have gone wrong, but didn't.

I... have never felt this kind of feeling. Is this pride? No... I can't be proud of what I did, or what my people did. We did horrible things and prevented many species from hearing the signal. Is this happiness? No, this emotion isn't that simple. If I was happy, I'd be smiling. Sadness? No, I've felt plenty of that already. That isn't what this is. Jealousy? A bit, maybe. I always wanted to explore the star system, and the fact that the little blue man got to see so much does make me a bit jealous, but that's not the main thing I'm feeling. And to be fair, I'd rather not go to the effort of exploring the star system. That sounds exhausting. I'm... Relieved. That's what this is. I'm relieved that this is finally all about to end and that what I did had meaning. I wish I could've talked to that little blue guy. I've been a prisoner here for so long and haven't shared a conversation with someone in ages. I think he understood me when I gave him a bow of gratitude. It was the only thing I could think to do. You know what? Maybe I am a little bit happy. Seeing him and hearing what happened makes me happy. I think... I think I'm done. I think I'm ready to go. But I have to make sure that the blue guy knows I'm thankful before I do. I wish I could've explored with him.

One thing I noticed about this track, in the background, you can hear the same melody of sorts, as that you hear in a dream of home. I think this represents the fact that the prisoner (who you can see in the dream of home slide reel) finally knows the eye has/ will serve its purpose, and the dream that they were stuck way back since that slide reel is finally open for them to escape.

This song and the Prisoner's part in the story are both very significant. For most people who played EotE, they had already done at least one full playthrough of the base game. In the base game, you get to the Eye and enter it just as you always had to. However, the story of the Prisoner really changes the context in which it happened. The Nomai had lost the Eye's signal and worked tirelessly to find it, only for it to be found with their technology eons after their unfortunate obliteration. What they didn't know is that the Stranger had already arrived before them for its inhabitants to observe it, and they were so terrified of its discovery that they hid it away. Kaepora (the name of The Prisoner in the game files) managed to release the signal for only a few moments, and that's what the Nomai saw. Every element of this were in the right place at the right time. Kaepora sacrificed so much to do what he did, and he paid the price of eons of imprisonment. In the end, with the Player finally hearing his story, and showing him the fruits of his actions, Kaepora finally gets to rest as he should have so long ago. It's truly beautiful.
