Guys, today it's been a year since I created the channel, and to celebrate I'm releasing a new version of Live at Pompeii, which is the 1974 theatrical version distributed to the American market. This new source was streamed on the ITsART website a few months ago, a one-off, for European viewers only, along with a documentary about the 50th anniversary of the recording sessions, featuring director Adrian Maben. Those who managed to record used a screen recording method and, as it was a live broadcast, there were some quality drops during the broadcast. In short, the quality isn't perfect (you may notice those quality drops and a blend/ghost motion effect) but it's the best source available so far for this epic movie. I had to split the movie track by track, as the entire movie has a worldwide copyright block, similar to what happens with The Wall movie. Use the playlist and I hope you like it. Thanks to everyone who supported the channel throughout this year, especially to the Patreon supporters. Enjoy! @@yakuza76 I tried a couple online youtube downloaders til I found one that let me save the 2k stream, but found it wasn't really any clearer than the 1080, so stuck with that for now. Eventually when darkest peru freezes over they'll officially release this again, if it isn't all chopped up with new footage of tourists or something spliced in instead of footage of the band. I wish he would just leave it be and give us the thing we all love in high quality, instead of endlessly trying to George Lucas it into something else.

Wright has passed, and Waters is so full of himself that his ego is spilling all over the old albums as he unintentionally tries to ruin their legacy. More Pink Floyd will never be possible, but thankfully they gave us a treasure trove that we'll always be able to dive in to.

Ok, this is live but here's this part (starting from 2:51) where Richard is at the Lesley piano, but you can hear an organ as well. At 2:56 when he stops playing piano and walks to his organ, it is very audible: Hammond organ following the chords. What's with this? Was this part overdubbed later or was it a tape machine running along? How could they have synced that tape playback with their playing? We're talking fairly primitive pre-click track times here (there's hardly any decent monitoring.) Any thoughts?
@BobbysArchive
@BobbysArchive 2 года назад
Most of pompeii had lots of overdubs. Most people don’t know that the songs were actually recorded in sections and spliced back together, you can really hear the tape splices and the doubling on the vocals on the mono mix version.

It was a dark and stormy night in London. The rain beat down on the roof of the studio, and the wind howled through the trees. Inside, David Gilmour and Roger Waters were working on their latest album. They had been working together for hours, and they were both tired. But they were also excited. They knew that they were creating something special. Suddenly, there was a power outage. The studio was plunged into darkness. "What the hell?" Gilmour said. "I don't know," Waters said. "But I'm sure it's nothing to worry about." They sat in silence for a few minutes, listening to the storm outside. Then, Gilmour spoke. "Roger," he said. "I need to tell you something." "What is it?" Waters asked. "I'm in love with you," Gilmour said. Waters was silent for a moment. Then, he said, "I'm in love with you too." They leaned in and kissed. It was a long, passionate kiss. When they finally pulled away, they looked into each other's eyes. "I've never felt this way about anyone before," Gilmour said. "Me neither," Waters said. They kissed again. This time, it was even more passionate than before. They knew that they had found something special. Something that they would never forget. The power came back on, and they went back to work on their album. But they knew that their lives would never be the same. They had found love. David Gilmour and Roger Waters continued to work on their album, but things were different now. They were more than just bandmates, they were lovers. They kept their relationship a secret, afraid of how it would be received by their fans and the music industry. One day, they were working in the studio when they heard a knock at the door. They opened it to find a man standing there. "Can I help you?" Gilmour asked. "I'm looking for Roger Waters," the man said. "I'm Roger Waters," Waters said. "I'm from Rolling Stone magazine," the man said. "I'm here to do a story on you and your band." Gilmour and Waters looked at each other. They knew that they had to tell the truth, but they were afraid of how the story would be written. "We're in love," Gilmour said. The man's eyes widened. "You're gay?" he asked. "Yes," Waters said. The man took a step back. "I don't know what to say," he said. "We understand," Gilmour said. "It's a lot to take in." The man nodded. "I'll need some time to process this," he said. "I'll be back in touch." The man left, and Gilmour and Waters were left alone. They looked at each other, and they knew that they had done the right thing. They were in love, and they were going to be together, no matter what anyone else thought. The Rolling Stone reporter did come back in touch, and he wrote a story about David Gilmour and Roger Waters' relationship. The story was well-received, and it helped to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues in the music industry. Gilmour and Waters were happy that they had come out, and they continued to be together for many years. They were an inspiration to many people, and they showed that it is possible to be successful and in love, regardless of your sexual orientation. One day, they were approached by a young man who told them that he had been inspired by their story. He said that he had been struggling with his own sexuality, but that their story had given him the courage to come out to his family and friends. Gilmour and Waters were touched by the young man's story, and they were glad that they had been able to help him. They told him that they were proud of him, and that they hoped that he would continue to live his life with love and happiness. The young man thanked them, and he said that he would never forget their kindness. He then left, and Gilmour and Waters watched him go. They smiled at each other, and they knew that they had made a difference in the world. Gilmour and Waters continued to be together for many years, and they remained an inspiration to many people. They showed the world that it is possible to be successful and in love, regardless of your sexual orientation.

@Spuzzmacher
@Spuzzmacher Год назад
It seems like they definitely meshed early on, but by the time Syd was out, Waters took the opportunity to be the serious businesslike one about everything. Makes sense that they'd find that very useful, bc in those days every band needed a fighter to deal with management, labels, promoters, etc all trying to control & sponge off them, but man when he turned up the heat on the other guys in the studio during Dark Side and never turned it down again, it's pretty amazing how long they remained a functioning band with him thinking it was over, & then did all their most popular work after that lol No wonder Nick always jokes about how a completely crazy surprising their success was.

In 2015 I visited a Live in Pompeii exhibition organised by a couple of Italians in the town centre. I had a chat with one of them and he told me the story of when he and a couple of friends skipped school in 1971 and snuck into the amphitheatre during filming. If you look closely at the top left window at 9:26 and again at 9:53, you can see a couple of heads moving around and peeking out. Apparently the film crew were completely unaware anyone was watching.

Never quite understood why Echoes, not so much Meddle the album but the cut, wasn't and isn't better known. Certainly at over 22 minutes it presented a bit of challenge to most radio station formats. But Echoes imo is the blue print of the Pink Floyd sound that ensued. A haunting yet harmonious poem set against a gentle background of David’s economy of guitar notes and Richard’s keyboard melody. At just the precise moment Roger and Nick tie it all together the way a florist uses baby’s breath in producing her bouquet of flowers

Great description, but was it really not better known? For a song that came before Dark Side I think it was well know in the circle of Floyd listeners. Considering the fact that it was their encore song I think up until the Wish You Were Here tour

At one point,when I was seventeen, I missed out on seeing this film (and a film of the Beatles on tour in the USA, a double bill) at a local theatre - because it was screened by the university students' film club and I thought only people who had enrolled ay uni could be members (you had to be a member of the club to get to watch their screenings, but unlike what I figured, people who were under age and still in high school were also allowed to join)

Some folks I know who are bit younger than me are jealous that I was born in 1973 so was at the right age to see bands like Soundgarden, Faith No More, Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails to name a few when they were at their peak in the late 80's to early 90s. It was a great time to be that age in that period, but sometimes I wish I could have been that age to see the likes of Floyd, Hendrix, Sabbath and Zeppelin and many more classic bands and artists like them during that late 60's to early 70's era. They will always be the greats!

dAMN foookin right, beeeeeyatch! It sets the standard. It set the bar. And for years it stood there, waiting for someone to challenge it. Which, ...of course Justin Bieber did. But it took a long time. JUSTIN BIEBER IS THE NEW FLOYD! I'd totally smoke his pole. Cept....I'm not a Bud Light-drinkin batty-boy. Well, usually not. Sometimes though, if I'm feelin a bit daffy, I will indeed put on my mum's old fox-fur coat and grease up my pencil with hog lard. But that's rare! And it only happens occasionally! DON'T JUDGE ME, SWINE!
