I just subscribed not too long ago. I’m excited because when I heard about your childhood and you coming to the conclusion that you’re Autistic it sounded very similar to mine scarce the actual autism screening. It’s so hard to find Black folks that make content about being autistic let alone Black Women! I always feel I relate heavily to the experiences of other Black autistic women when I do hear it tho so I’m glad you created your channel and started posting. We don’t have enough voices on the internet.

I had no idea, I do this so much! Thank you for your research and sharing. I remember quickly covering my mouth as a kid when I would accidentally do this out loud as a kid-I often got in trouble for it or was misunderstood. I still sometimes sound sassy af repeating people but had no clue why I do this. Thank you!!! Also repeating school or church stuff in my head as they talked because I was so bored lol

I think Brick from the show "The Middle" may have had one of these.

My mom, daughter, and I do this. I just reached out to the same group you used to do the diagnosis.

Something my son does (he's 11 and was diagnosed with autism in January this year) , I'm not sure if its considered echlolalia, but when I ask him if he wants something specific to eat he will answer me with "now". 😂 And he communicates fine, so he could answer "yes" if he wants to, but usually just says "now". Which I think is funny. I think hes just jumping to saying it straight to the point that he wants that now. 😂 I'm also on the autism spectrum but haven't been formally diagnosed. I probably won't bother with getting diagnosed, due to cost, etc. I have been diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive type) though.

Thank you for this video. I was unaware that echolalia is a real thing. You explained many behaviors that I exhibit. It is a mild tick that I noticed about myself and other people. Sometimes when I use echolalia and I am not aware of it. It appears to be definitely automatic, while the sounds and language I repeat I does not always register in my brain. This action annoys my fiance' and causes him to disconnect from me at times. I am working to better understand and recognize my behavior to improve my connection with him and reconcile in our relationship. Another thing is that he relates the behavior towards scripting, meaning that I am repeating someone else' s script that is already in place. That makes sense, even though I am not always aware of the frequency emitted by other people. Thank You again. Blessed Be.🌈

Ah, echologia. I've always done that. And usually my own words.

I actually remember at just random times, you would burst out laughing and after telling me what it was you were laughing at I would roll my eyes 🙄, and think okay, my daughter is really unique. Not realizing this was echoalia

That church thing happens with reading the Bible too. Especially the Psalms

People don’t often talk about how annoying and even disturbing echolalia can be when it is involuntary. (For the person experiencing it I mean)

@@therachelisticchannel So today is a good example. When I went out for my fast walking exercise I couldn’t stop repeating the time I’d left over and over in time with my paces. So in my head it was “Fourteen fifty, ten to three. Fourteen fifty, ten to three…” it kept going for nearly an hour. Very boring bit of echolalia, quite testing of the brain.
