So grateful to have discovered Eckhart Tolle at 18. I am now 25 and still come back to his teachings and am still inspired by him. His teachings have to be experienced and only then will you really understand what he is talking about. Thank you Eckhart !
This is Eckhart in 2014. I haven't listened to him for a few years now so I was pleasantly surprised how much the NOW observations he always talks about have become warm and humorous. His spiritual being and human personality seem quite married to each other. His comfortableness is reassuring to me....
That is a true and genuine observation . I felt the same way . It seemed to me ;at the beginning , he was some what aloof , proclaiming the truth to the world , and that was his body language . The essence of what he said then and now is the same .
Tryin2findout I have exactly the same experience. He has grown to be sooo adorable genuinely human WOW ! Sure does help me to forward also. Thanks for pointing this out.
Sure, if you’re focused on the present moment, you won’t be ruminating on your problems. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have any problems. If you don’t have any money and you’re homeless, that problem doesn’t go away merely because you stop thinking about it. I know Tolle spent some time homeless, and he didn’t feel like he had a problem. But it’s possible to have problems and not realize it. Being in a state of ignorant bliss is no use if your life falls apart around you. If I close my eyes while driving, the other cars are still there. And what if you’re out walking and an angry dog chases you and bites hold of your leg? You can focus on your breathing all you want, but the problem still exists.
Eckhart you are a current of pure spirit consciousness, the truth, the freedom of what being truly human is and understanding other humans, you are changing the world with your words, and I thank you from the bottom of my soul. Also, I love you bunches...
The teachings of many a man wiser than I. but i fear there is no truth other than what you can find yourself. What word of god has not been tamperd and alterd by man to suit a specific agenda. thats why i cannot subscribe to any organised religon. the closest we can be to god is to learn from people like the buddah and jesus. or Eckhart tolle and alan watts. their messages are all the same.
joeforHistruth In what exact way is presence and abiding in being present not compatible with the truth that Jesus taught us? Have you read Mathew 6:34, Isaiah 34:18, Ecclesiastes 5:18, Psalm 118:2? There is a level to knowing Christ and his teachings that you do not seem to have enjoyed. It would appear that you have allowed your pastors or whoever taught you what you believe to poison you to the real truth of Christs teachings. There is nothing in what Eckhart teaches that is not totally congruent with the teachings of Christ. It is sad that you cannot know the true love of Christ because you have buried it under fundamentalist religious dogma. I pray that you will know the deception you have made into a belief system that separates you from God. I really do.
but technology keeps you from going out and talk to people also. for thousands of years people sat together around the fire discussing things like that, now we stay at home and watch trash tv and commercials.
I ‘m a seventy-six-year-old writer and have been a seeker of truth most of my life. Eckhart has taught me the true meaning of letting go of my ego and remaining in the Now.
@Idealis, I prefer a casual conversation on a topic to structured questions where there is no natural flow. We get enough of that on 24/7 news channels. Bravo to her for having the balls to do that.

@@MrClarkkent2001 sure, things happen in life. Nobody said random things don’t happen because we are peaceful. It is your response to what happens, and the interpretation and cognitive or emotional weight you attribute to what happens, that defines being awake. But these words don’t matter if you don’t resonate with them…it is not for me to say what being conscious and alert is for you.
I've started getting into Tolle, largely through youtube so far, perhaps I'll end up reading his two books someday. If I had to summarize his philosophy in two words, I'd say he's a mental minimalist. His identification with attention, alertness, conscious awareness, "presence" or mental space as opposed to the thoughts, feelings and sensations within that space, or with memories, reason, ideas, emotions, etcetera, says a lot about his philosophy and his appreciation of emptiness, nothingness and simplicity. Just as our houses can be cluttered with too much crap, old crap, useless crap, crap that obstructs things, prevents new things from getting in their, so too can the mind be cluttered with biases, prejudices and negativity, sometimes we need to do psychic spring cleaning, let go of the past, future, live more in the present, that's how we learn, by paying attention as opposed to making all sorts of assumptions about how things are or should be. Nothing in excess, we need to think, but there is this tendency in many, if not all of us, to overthink, and let life, which happens in the present, pass us by, there is this tendency to plan too and overanalyze, and mankind would probably benefit from a little more presence. Space, whatever it is, if it is, that's a metaphysical question, physical space is more, or it's completely monolithic, so perhaps that's why Tolle associates compassion with identification with mental space as opposed to thoughts and feels, because our thoughts and feelings vary, where as space is uniform, so too identify with psychic space, is to make man uniform, so too love another, is no different than loving oneself. However, I'll have to think more about this, just as the space differs in physical rooms, it probably also differs in peoples heads, some may have more of it than others, and it may be shaped differently. Nothing in excess, eastern thought, Buddhism, Daoism and Zen in particular, not so much Hinduism and Confucianism, tend to emphasize minimalism, where as western philosophy and science tend to emphasize maximalism, more is more, you can never have enough information, knowledge, fuck, even material things, fame, fortune, wealth, power, pleasure... In the west, despite a few exceptional thinkers here and there, ambiguity, ignorance and mystery are derided, where as the east, they're celebrated. Both John Locke and Lao Tzu spoke of a Tabula Rasa, but with Locke and others, this is merely a starting point, this isn't a goal, but a means to an end, to do away with empirical and logical fallacies, to build knowledge on a firmer foundation, where as for Lao Tzu, the blank slate is the goal, to operate on instinct, or intuition, or to only have as many ideas as one needs.
I don't think philosophy is the point, and I don't think he is making a point. The questioner here throws away her questions. That's the message, and that's the experience. Zen can't be named. Etc.
An indication of how far i have to go in my spiritual growth is how much that womans 'mmhhmm" pissed me off during the entire video when Eckhart was speaking
Eckhart Tolle stole my Heart, I'am Just Live A Simple Life in The Here and Now. I Give Praise & Thanks that i have Read his Books and watch his Dvd's He is a wonderfull Person of Bliss
BarbaraL Lowell Have you heard of the term, I show you in airplane and you are looking in to my finger ? Not everything you hear is the truth, cause the ego is the self and is the desire, age it self can control it, as the person get older,he can't do things he use to and he mixt consciousness with knowledge .what you don't know you don't know . consciousness is what you are aware off, awareness is the key .
manny mo I read your comment twice and still am not sure what you are attempting to share - and I'd like to know. Would you be willing to take the time to reword it so that I Can know? If there is a saying "I show you in airplane and you are looking into my finger", and it does not include typos, I haven't heard of it and don't follow it. But again, I'd like to.
***** Well it's sample what I means by I show you is, I point my finger in to in airplane, and you are looking in the finger, not the airplane, That means I'm talking about something much higher, and you are thinking of something much lower . The ego is nothing but our desire , the bigger it is the harder to control , as you may know age can cause a person to control his or her desire, cause he/she can't do things he/she use too. hope you understand .have a good day
+camabelu e Pain, illness, loss, age and death seem to threaten. All my hopes and wishes and plans appear to be at the mercy of a world I cannot control. Yet perfect security and complete fulfillment are my inheritance. I have tried to give my inheritance away in exchange for the world I see. But God has kept my inheritance safe. The world I see holds a fearful self-image in place, and guarantees its continuance. While you see the world as you see it now, truth cannot enter awareness. I would let the door behind this world be opened for me, that I may look past it to the world that reflects the Love of God and the Son of God. Behind every image made, the truth remains unchanged. Behind every veil drawn across the face of love, its light remains undimmed. Beyond all insane wishes is *my will*, united with the Will of my Father. God is still everywhere and in everything *forever*. And we who are part of Him will yet look past all appearances, and recognize the truth beyond them all.
I would like to recommend a book to everyone who likes Eckhart's teachings. It is called "The Present- Universal truth'' . Eckhart is amazing and this book confirms his sayings and makes everything perfectly clear. Peace :)
Oooohhhhwwww man ... He just really got it :) You can trully feel tha luv uphere 8-) & he just is all of that everytime i see him... Keep going Eckhart !!! you are doing so well. not just 4 yaSELF but it's minimum Mondial & who knows how mucho further he go's ... RESPECTING Grtzzz
"The essence of this room is not what's in it. The essence of this room is what enables the stuff to be in it. If the room discovers the its essence identity as space, then that would be awakening." Wow!
I never thought I could be enlightened. I thought that was only for spiritual masters who were trained most of their life. Until I realized that the thought I believed was the only thing holding me back from surrendering to the Now.
My first partner and I had a brief story-free deep connection back in 1985 (and neither of us were into the perennial philosophy); I looked at her (especially deep into her eyes) in wonder and said: "Who are you?", and she responded with "I know what you mean, yeah, who are you?" It was a timeless moment, of which I was reminded years later, reading through The Power Of Now in 2009.
After reading his two famous books, Power of Now, and New Earth, couple of times each and listening to his teachings.. I might be able to say somewhat I understand what he means.. it's a new way of looking at the world and life.. However, I think that our world is not built the way he sees things.. Our world is so materialistic and we are taught to be good consumers from cradle to grave.. His philosophy, which I agree with. is absolutely incredible.
The power of now only spreads as quickly as it does is because we have communication platforms such as fb or yt. Which is how we change how we use these tools.
WE ARE ALL A JIGSAW PIECE OF THE GREATEST PUZZLE OF HUMANITY. THAT BRINGS THE BIGGEST PICTURE TOGETHER AGAIN ONENESS I AM THAT I AM, THE PUZZLE TOGETHER ONENESS. 🤗🤗🤗😇😇😇🌬🌬🌬❄❄❄
