If the rain water was filtered first it could be used in the home for washing and drinking. This can be filtered by plants growing food (eg fruit bushes) Grey water can then be used to flush the toilet. I like the earthship principles of water reuse but for the drip flow field (black water cell) I would have a willow coppice flow field. Use the willow grown to produce heat and electricity.

That has been done for millenia, that is not a house, its just a separated bathroom "facility" with its own reservoir, you can just build another one, bigger and cleaner, with a filter, for your home. Common practice in the countryside of northeastern Brazil where i grew up.

I don’t understand/see how just growing willow makes electricity.
@601salsa
@601salsa Год назад
@@ridingvenus willow is incredibly fast growing for a tree, it can and indeed need regular pruning or coppicing so it makes a really good source of renewable wood source. Another good tree for this would be sweet chestnut. Evening you cut it right back to the trunk they can continue to grow because they are that Hardy ( usually cut every 7 years ish). That wood that is cut and leaves etc can be used in power plants to make electricity. There was a town who's sewage plant switched to this and it was producing g at least half of the towns energy. They stagger the coppicing so there is a,ways a crop of fuel each year.

I guess we should reduce contamination of water to start with. Avoid the use of chemicals and detergents and replace them with non pollutants. I also think that the toilet should use a compostable system or eventually split feces from urine because feces can dry up and be turned into gas for cooking or, if mixed with some particular bark trees, they can be used as natural fertilizer for the plant and trees. Zero waste shouldn't be either complicated or expensive, we must rethink our necessity and live a as minimalists .

I find myself wondering how well this would work in a cold climate where the earth is frozen for 4 months, e.g. Norway. If frost issues can be solved solely by insulating the sewage tank and storing everything until spring comes, then this could be used almost anywhere on the planet. Has there been done research on this in cold environments?
@jpp9876
@jpp9876 2 года назад
This system needs to be tweaked for both cold and arid climates. The large tank shows a water level above the rest and even pipes leaving the house. That would need to be pumped in and a back flow preventer. This system would need electricity to operate unless it is on a descending hill. A descending hill would be helpful in Norway and where I am, Minnesota. Burried tanks with insulation above them.

It would make more sense to recycle the cleaned water to reuse for the toilet at the very least. This does nothing to save water, just makes outflow very cost intensive for no real benefit.
@Blanknameonyoutube
@Blanknameonyoutube 3 года назад
places without natural frequent rain fall need to water plants anyway. if you were to send that water back into the house then you risk some contamination of the toilet water line. you actually dont use that much water to be honest. it could be filtered and pumped back into storage when it is filtered properly.
@gsmscrazycanuck9814
@gsmscrazycanuck9814 3 года назад
@@Blanknameonyoutube It's been three years since I made my comment. In those three years I have seen a few systems that could take all the household water and recycle it back to the house safely. Also a way that food is grown in greenhouses using a sea water evaporation system. There is a lot that can be done with some research and imagination. I have had several neighbors run out of water this year. this is where a water recycling system would do very well if the mindset of people can be changed.

Before you talk out your behind, how about you read into the system that you say in unnecessary. It increases Bio-Diversity of ALL organisms in a given environment big and small. The small organisms are sustenance to the larger predators in the cycle. Everything in that system is necessary to increase bio-diversity and enrich the ecosystem of which it’s located.
