I really hope we are able to bring sea otters back to the Oregon coast❤. I am sorry to them that we poached them into extinction from here on the first place.😞
I got news for you folks. There are Otters in the rivers and shoreline of Southern Oregon. I've seen them in the Illinois River and the Chetco River. Sea Otters can easily be seen in Crescent City and Carmel By The Sea.
Thanks, Cliff. There are many river otters along the Oregon and California coasts and in addition to living in the rivers and creeks, they often come down to the intertidal area to forage. You are correct that there are sea otters in and near Carmel and Monterey, California but there are none north of Santa Cruz until you get to the Olympic coast in Washington.
Hi Cliff, thanks for the comment. We do have North American River Otters in Oregon that often forage and swim in the intertidal zone, and at river mouths near the ocean. That's what you are encountering. Yes, there are definitely a resident populations of sea otters in Carmel/Monterey Bay, but that's in California. We don't have a resident population of sea otters on the Oregon coast.
