they think China has some kind of benevolent capitalism, they're repeating the myth of confucian capitalism, where asian nations would respect others sovereignty and grow peaceful, well thats not how it works, capital has no culture or morals. China is already exporting predatory loans to the rest of the world, give the opportunity and they will become just as bad as the US. The only socialism is the overthrow of capital altogether.

When the people make their fortunes or just their living in a broken system, they are not likely going to look to fixing it.They end up believing there is no alternative. I hope it grows too. But if it is in this format and not engaging enough for the layman, it will only be listened to by econ nerds. I think in order to catch on in a massive scale, they would have to get a set, content creator, social media manager, etc. I don't know if these two would be willing to go all in on something like that. Would be super beneficial though

Awesome talk! I'll be catching each one of these as they come out! Some questions/suggestions I have: 1) Can you dive into the attempts by some international organizations, such as the BRICS or in South America, to make alternative currencies? Are we looking at a return to the gold standard at some point? What do you put their chances of success at? 2) For countries that already under the thumb of the IMF and similar organizations, how will they, in practical terms, escape debt peonage? If you were, say, ruling Egypt right now, what would be your 5 or 10 or 20 step plan to get from where they are now to independence? 3) I agree with you when you say that America's ability to project power militarily has declined, and that there is basically only one step between targeted assassinations and nuclear weapons. Having said that, we've also seen a concerted effort over the last decade at least that particularly focuses on Iran and China. Do you ever see Iran and China being engaged militarily (to presumably disastrous effect), or will America just continue to try and covertly engineer regime change? (or, to test your ability to see the future less, do you think that the people in charge in Washington actually want to go to war with Iran and China or is this just posturing?) 4) Will this new Cold War have a similar structure with the West on one side, the East on the other, and a Non-Aligned Movement? I can already see countries like Turkey and India trying to essentially play both sides for their own gain, but are these outliers, or will many countries seek to maintain ties with both sides? Will this work out for them or will they eventually be forced to choose? 5) And finally, how does climate change factor into all this? Particularly as we saw last year, with some countries being massively flooded (Pakistan), others going through extreme drought (China, Europe, some parts of the US). I can guess that it'll negatively affect most countries, but do you have any specific thoughts on how the new Cold War will be affected by a warming climate? just going to edit in a final question: 6) What should we, the people interested in America's hold on the world being weakened, be looking out for in terms of economic indicators of decline? I'm already aware of how GDP is a very imperfect measure of economic growth; could you possibly elaborate further on that, and give alternative measures that quantify how, say, America or Germany or the UK are going downhill? e.g. industrial output, inflation, businesses opened/closed, investment, etc? Thanks!

The world then may be the saving grace, the imperialist because of their unchecked dominance just become more and more arrogant. As we all know, arrogance eventually leads to ignorance. Even in the last few months you can see the beginnings of the global shift which is much more developed then any in USA knew. Hopefully, the public will begin to see this as a good thing. Under the US/UK paradigm, stability of currencies is at the mercy of speculators (eg sterling and Soros) and this of course China knows and will not permit. I disagree with Radhika that US Imperialism has been unsuccessful in their invasions They've been very successful in crippling Afghanistan, Iraq, Cuba, Venezuela, countries in Africa, Palestine, Syria, Haiti, and now its Western European "allies" as well as destroying the lives of its own citizens. That's what Imperialism does, weaken and destroy and by that measure the US has been very successful.

I think what the panel meant is that USA has been very unsuccessful in making itself a successful hegemony because other than having the atomic bomb, its other important hegemonic powers e.g., it’s industrial, military, financial, geopolitical and social influences are all in sharp decline around most part of the world including its own world.
@emanuelneagu14

Sure, her way of saying it was weird and sounded wrong but what she meant is that US aimed for much more. They might have destroyed many countries but didn't get them all on their side and didn't get to extract everything they wanted from there, and more importantly their goal is to stamp on China and Russia but as you can see, they're unable to win even in Ukraine, not to mention hypothetical Taiwan and Korea and another Vietnam-like war over whole of China and Russia, one after the other. Since they didn't have and don't have that massive level of power to hit what they aimed for, they're losing ground fast now.

Large areas of India and China could have lengthy periods that exceed the wet bulb temperature, the point the human body can no longer bear it. Eurasia is coming. But will it be cut short by climate change? Of course, the Anglo-American use of oil as a political weapon which Michael discussed plays into this.

Great presentation and topic! Although, I wish Radhika Desai would have elaborated or clarifed her remarks about the history of finance capital and its relationship with "personal finance vs consumer finance" during the early stages of the British industrial development, because she seems to imply that the relations was not only uniquely different than today but also had a ' short-term ' focus with consumer markets ( well established end-user). However, I submit that a deeper dive into finance's role in early devleopment of British industry would also reveal that personal finance ( such as funding of expeditions was primacy to, and primarily for purpose of, supporting seaborn transport and merchantalism in the extraction of unfinished goods and labor ( e.g., financing shipment agreements f or cargos of the enslaved, acquistion of colonial land and rare the minerals and crops ) to the metorpols of Britain for thier domesticconsumption and conversion to create finished good through the purchase of unpaid labor (Slaves) througout its own empire and to other metropols of colonial power. Therefore, based on the latter, it is most evident that finance did have only had 'the consumer' credit foci (albeit a small base of oligarchs and burgeoning capitalists in mind) during the nacient stages of British industrial and Western development - although, it was not broad based and credit/debt driven for the masses. The latter point should not be overlooked, but should - and hopefully will in future discussions - be better detailed when mentioning, however secondarily, the early stages of finance capital, industry, and consumerism in its various forms. Nonetheless, I am confident that Michael Hudson and Radika will in further discussions!
