"Economy of Heart" - Sunday Sermon
22nd Sunday of the Ordinary Time, Year B
The ritual of cleansing the body was an essential, if not crucial, practice for the Jews of the old times. That is why Jesus makes a strong point: "Nothing that goes into a person from outside can make one unclean."
It's a reminder that the problem is a pure heart. Nowadays, many are constantly concerned about what goes into a person and what one consumes, neglecting at times what comes out of a person. Yet it is what's inside that truly matters. For Jesus, a human heart needs his healing most urgently.
