I visited Patagonia 1/15/20-2/3/20. I wanted to move there right away!! I’m in Portland, Oregon, USA. I decided I needed to stay in the US to help my parents at the end of their life before I move. I loved everywhere we traveled between Coyhaique and Puerto Natales. We backpacked Cerro Castillo and Patagonia National Park. Do you think there are places a woman can buy 20 acres-ish and have a small farm (that what I have here). I’d like to continue my farm life in Patagonia 🙏🏽

George Soros??!!!!. I'm chilean. All social movements actually started on 2006, following in 2011 and everything exploded in 2019. When we got democracy back in 1990, 60% of people were living in poverty, but that number got decreased to 8% (or something around that) in the next 15 or 20 years, so Chile as a country started to get a higher income, but most of that was acquired for a small part of the population, maybe the reason is that we didn't change our industries to start providing services ... I don't know. But, I'm totally sure that George Soros has not been part of our history.

#1. While sitting around a table at dinner with several Chilean friends of mine here, this very discussion was debated in great detail. I did not bring it up. In fact I had not heard of this before our dinner. As you know Chile is a very small country. One of the people at the table has a niece who is a news reporter at Punta Arenas. She was on site during a demonstration there in Punta Arenas reporting on the mobilization. Some thugs who were inciting the demonstration attempted to burn the Catholic Church down. Well at that point the locals who were peacefully demonstrating took hold of these individuals and were going to spank them (for a lack of a better term) when the carabeneros took the thugs and put them in jail for their protection. She reported on this and I have read the article in Spanish but I can not find it. Turns out that they had airline tickets to go to Punta Arenas that they could not afford to pay for themselves. On investigation it was found that George Soros through one of his world wide organizations paid for their airline tickets to go down to Punta Arenas and burn the church down. #2. Here in Pueto Octay during that same time they caught on camera a car driving through town at 3 or 4 in the morning throwing rocks through the windows on the Muni. They were able to find the car from Santiago and arrest the people involved who explained that they were PAID TO DO THESE ACTS OF TERRORISM. #3. Later the same things happened in Seattle and Portland and many other cities in the former USA. What is so hard to believe about this? I am not surprised at all if George Soros did this or one of his multi billion dollar charitable foundations. He himself has stated that he enjoys unbalancing governments and such. Why are you at all surprised would be my next question? If someone has the means and motive to do something and then claims to be doing such things then why would I argue with George Soros? I am not hoping he did it or not. Just a fact that I have been told that I could not contest. So I took it at face value. I am wise enough at my age to see that government and such are not all that they seem to be. That maybe our votes do not count for so much. That those with money live in their own world and that often we are just bugs for them to step on. Jim

For me it is very funny that Americans call themselves an expat when they are immigrants such as a Venezuelan or a Haitian. We Chileans are tired of any type of immigration. It's also funny to think that you don't consider yourself part of the problem. Countries need their people to stay in their own countries and not invade others.

I thought about deleting your comment to save you some embarrassment. Why because you do not know what an Expat IS? What is the definition of EXPAT?

EXPAT = A person who lives outside their native country' (Oxford), or. 'living in a foreign land' (Webster's)

I do consider myself part of the problem. Just like I might consider you part of the problem if you visited or were in the former USA. For example the good Chileans visiting the former USA on vacation and robbing peoples homes! Yes they are bad people, very bad people and they are Chilean. Does that make all people from Chile bad people? No Would that make all people from the former USA or Haiti or Venezuela bad people? No. By your own logic and ignorance it would mean that you are a bad person for lumping all those people, including yourself, in the same group. Or maybe you are just an idiot. In your case a Chilean Idiot, who can not say anything nice to anyone. Even someone you do not know.

Mini farm? I subscribed to your channel since the beginning. I live on a 240 acre irrigated farm here in southern Idaho. This is a farm, a family farm. Not a mini farm, or a commercial ag factory as so many are absorbed into due to consolidation. You have a good life there, but it looks so much like all the hobby farmers/homesteaders here in the US that are part of the urban and suburban exodus. Pressures on true farm land prices are absolutely shocking, despite the rising interest rates. You value your little piece of paradise, now that you have it, and I hope you can keep it when the threads of civilization begin to unravel. It's value has nothing to do with all the zeros being added to it's supposed sale price. We all have this gut feeling that difficult times are coming. It is human behavior to develop some socio-political boogie man conspiracy idea to offset your fears. That feeds the social media frenzy all the more. First symptom is surround yourself with people who only think and speak your own ideology/politics/or agree with you. Second symptom you buy more guns. Third, if you can afford it, you relocate in order to isolate and mitigate your fears. I just wish that more fringe people from the radical right and left would pull the trigger and move out of the United States and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
@ChileExpatFamily
@ChileExpatFamily Год назад
Well the best thing about being here is it sure is beautiful and there are few people here. At least until the past few years. We are actually investigating moving further south 3 days. It would be very very remote. The closest town would be 4 hours away. No phone. No power or water or any other service. So very remote. I grew up in SC on a 286 acre cattle farm in South Carolina. So I understand your current situation. I am kind of hoping all the people will stay in the former USA. We kind of like our little bit of isolation. Yes I would say we are just on a "LOT" but it was all that we could afford. The property we are looking at down south is 4,500 acres. So that would be a step up for us for sure. Thanks for the comments. Jim

You know, people's actions are determined by the "environment". This huge exodus is provoked by the actions and changes made by the actual governing power. Pandemics, restrictive laws, chemical food, cost of living (taxes, medical, etc.). Is not the people that is guilty, the dreams and aspirations of leading class are at fault... If you are a docile person, you will be the last to realize that you had to take some action of some kind... but then it will be too late. Some people simply deserves what is coming... Because of people like you, people like me are forced in the end to leave... But I assure you, you will miss us...

G'day Jim in Australia farm land was getting split into 5, 10, acre blocks in the 1970s to 90s. Then the government realised that all the good producing land was turning into a sort of hobby farm suburbia. The government made a rule that no farm could be split into smaller lots than 30 hectares. Even if the farmer wants to give his kids a block it cant be legally split off the main farm unless its 30 hectares and the remaining is at least 30 hectares. The powers that be say that in their opinion 30 hectares is the smallest a farm can be and be a viable concern. I think something had to happen you can drive west of Brisbane and there is a house and one cow or one horse every 5 acres it is some of the best producing land in Queensland. Of course If a big development company buys a farm, then with legal and illegal means manipulates the situation all rules are flexible. John

I came from the US a year ago and around Temuco nothing is below 25,000 dollars (that is for a patch of 5,000 square meters) . So I got a piece of land nearby Gorbea.
