EcoStruxure Machine Expert Training - M8.5 Upload program from M241, M251 or M262
The software to program the Modicon M241, M251, M258, M262 and PacDrive MotionController is EcoStruxure Machine Expert (former SoMachine / SoMachine Motion).
For the Modicon M258 the version required to use the software is the EcoStruxure Machine Expert v1.2.x.
The version of EcoStruxure Machine Expert v2.x does not include the M258 in the hardware list.
In order to install this software you need to download "Schneider Electric Software Installer" from the next link:

Then you should be able to install EcoStruxure Machine Expert.
The software EcoStruxure Machine Expert has a Free version after the 42 days trial, please check pages 14 and 16 for more information for the free version limitations:

The user that wants to use this software needs to have an account in our License Portal in order to register the software:

In the past the software was SoMachine and the latest version of this software was the SoMachine V4.3 SP2.
The reference for SoMachine is the SOMNACS43:

The firmware version of the Modicon M241, M251 and M258 for PLC programmed in SoMachine starts in v4.x.x.x and in Machine expert it starts in v5.x.x.x.
In order to program the Modicon M241, M251, M258, M262 you can use a miniUSB cable (TCSXCNAMUM3P or BMXXCAUSBH018) , SD Card (not M258 this one use pen drive) or an ethernet cable (depend on the version).

Hey, i have a TM241C24R M241. I want to get the program from this PLC. Im used to use Machine (Basic version). It is only possible to get the program of this PLC using Expert software version? Because using the basic version, when connecting the PC-PLC using an usb cable, the software don't recongnise it. And how can i get the program using the Expert version? I don't know how to put the PLC model in the expert version. Thanks in advance.

Hi there! In order to program the modicon M241 you must use EcoStruxure Machine Expert. The EcoStruxure Machine Expert Basic is for the M221 that is why you can not connect to the other plc. It is possible to save actual values of variables of GVL from PLC to source project? I mean, if e.g. operator enter some settings and I want to save values of this settings in my project as Initial value.

Hi Yaroslav! it is possible to save variables as default but we need to check how to do this process. You can use the gvl for persistent variables so the value will not vanish after power cycle but in this case after the operator have entered the value you will manually add it to the code, check the next video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DITcgYUYr3Y.html Another solution could be the use of recipes but i have not done a video for that yet.

Hi there! If I am not wrong you can convert the hardware from the device tree but you will need to add the TM3s to match the amount of IOs. Depend on the application you will probably need to change some functions blocks.

Hi, I’m using Machine expert 1.2.6. I am working with an existing M258 PLC and program and only want to make minor logic changes. The program was created with SoMachine 4.3. Do I need to install SoMachine or can I do my edits with Machine Expert? In general, should I do any of the “Recommended Upgrades” it suggests when opening the project file, or can I leave everything in the current version?

Hi there! Maybe now is too late but if the program was done in SoM then for an online change you must use the exact version of the software otherwise a firmware update and full download is required (depend on the libraries used you will need to make modifications to the software)

Hi there! The code for the hmi is inside the *.project or the archiveproject that you use to open the software of the plc. If the hmi was done with MachineExpert then the hmi project is embedded there. If you have the sourcecode then open it and you should see the hmi when you open the software. Not possible to upload from the hmi in this case

I'm using Somachine v4.3software, controller showing but unable to connect online or login, in gateway it's show as connect as a client , sir you have any solution for this

Hi there! Not sure if the plc is new or it is has an app inside so check : * firmware of the plc compatible with SoMachine. * have you tried using the controller assistant to change firmware? * have you tried using the controller assistant to make an image?

Hi there! yes, it is possible but the M2xx must have the "source code" otherwise it will not be possible.

Hello sir, I got the PLC program backup of M241 by clicking source code. But the current project format version is SoMachine version 4.3 and I'm using machine expert version 2.2. So I have a query that I'm using machine expert and got that backup also from old version of live running PLC. But now I want to run the project, and login also but it's not working it's say that - A valid address has not been defined.it tries to update the controller list.Note if only one controller is found by the controller type, it is automatically selected. Pls give any solution on this, the PLC in running mode live, and I want to view the program in running mode.

Hi there! In order to use ESME v2.2 in the M241 you must updated the firmware of the PLC and update the project to the ESME v2.2 but manual changes may be required depend on the application. An alternative is to get SoMachine v4.3 so you can directly connect without any changes on the PLC.

@@LeTomasAHUMADASo sir basically I need to download the soft SoMachine V4.3 to run & modify the PLC program. But sir I checked the soft it is not available. For M241 I will update the firmware after update I will upload the same program will I got the backup from same PLC then it will not any issues right. Sir if you have SoMachine v4.3 soft link plz share then I think it will be easy for me .

@@LeTomasAHUMADA “I have a spare M241 PLC available. My plan is to download the backup of the running PLC program to this spare M241 PLC. I will then replace the currently running M241 PLC with the spare one to address login and program modification issues. After ensuring the spare PLC is operating correctly, I will update the firmware on the original PLC, then download the same program back to it, restoring it to its previous state. This will work sir?

@@aniketchavan2835 if the plc is connected to an schneider hmi using the somachine protocol then the nodename must be the same as the original plc
