Thanks for answering my question John. When you said they restored at least 50% of the land out of production and into reforestation, yet they are more productive... that was awesome. It's not about quantity of land, it's the quality.
To add to this. I heard Vandana Shiva say "health per acre"... which figures that if you can increase the biological quality of the land/soil/ecosystem then the same amount of nutrition in 1 acre could be produced in 0.1 acre. Which means your 1 acre could yield 10 times more nutritional value compared weak/cheap industrial land. Consumers want health.
I think the introduction of the eucalyptus is a mistake for the longer term. There is no guarantee you will be owning that land in the future, which means there is no guarantee you can manage that tree to keep it benign. Surely there are species of trees that can do the same job in Brazil, of all places.
