A lot of people who have undergone an ablation for Atrial fibrillation complain of more ectopic heart beats. In this video I discuss the mechanism. Please consider subscribing and sharing. I am also on Instagram as yorkcardiology and I have a Facebook page ("@yorkcardiologist").

@@YorkCardiology I only have one ventricle in my heart . I have terrible atrial tachycardia and my heart can race up to 260BPM which puts me on the floor. If I'm out in the street walking I feel faint and lay on the floor. It got so bad that walking up the shop which was 2 minutes away caused me to go into them. Due to having a fontan it took 8 hours for the ablation to be done. Mine came from the right atrium and I've had two open heart surgeries before also. One at a week old, then when I was 8. Due to my circulation it's caused liver fibrosis. Like everyone else , i took life for granted. Even though in 1991 I was the 3rd person in the world to have the combinations of defects I had. Having the arrythmia changed my life. I am 31 years old and the amount of times I thought I was going to die was terrible. My mother and I have a deep connection and the thought of me leaving her is beyond my understanding in terms of how deverstating that is. Anyway I'm 2 weeks on post ablation. I've had re occurrence three times but not very fast. I've had terrible ectopics though, junctional , ventricular and atrial. The doctors have said I can exercise and come off my beta blockers but I'm going to wait to come off them for at least 3 months while everything heals. I also require a heart / liver transplant one day. Hopefully that will be years away from now. I have so many hopes and dreams for my future . It is the little things in life that matters. I have had 1 ablation and am due a second as the first one lasted 6 years without fault,but unexpectedly have had 3 attacks of a-fib and flutter in 8 months....I am a very competitive cyclist and am 58 years old...I feel certain types of food cause eptopic beats especially sweet sugary food and seem worse at night when we are relaxing. An ablation does give you freedom from medication,but sometimes you will ultimately need a second one to re-touch up the first. Dr Gupta really knows his stuff,and if is a great help to a-fib sufferers

Hi Sanjay, it’s Dale here - we spoke at the weekend. Are you able to do a quick video on the reasons for ectopic beats mainly on inhaling? Also - can you share any information about how long ectopics can last for? As discussed, I have had them almost constantly for about 3.5 weeks....almost every 20 beats, and mainly on inhaling. I obviously don’t understand the workings of heart rhythm so any information would be amazing.

My mitrial valve repair was 12 years ago and a PFO closer. Things became bad very quickly then. My doctors were surprised that my onset of afib just now appeared. So new adventures await. I had an ablation for SVT in 2019. I still take a beta blocker because what nobody mentions ( in my case anyway) is your heart still tries to go into SVT but it can't because of the ablation so what ends up happening is you get tachycardia. You don't go into full SVT but you get tachycardia sometimes and it will last for a few seconds and then the heart rate goes back down. Anxiety does palpitations worse... But they are a lot better than when I first got the ablation

Ok, a couple of things: For a patient with PVCs and PACs, would there be "more" Ectopics after ablation? - This is the first time that I've heard of there being some inflammation after ablation. - Is this a regular thing or a rare thing? - Is it wise for the Dr to prescribe some meds to deal with the inflammation? - Once the inflammation resolves, is it expected that Ectopics will also subside? Thanks in advance for any info.

Get educated ASAP as to the daily requirements of MINERALS. I experienced irregular heart beats frequently a few years ago. At one point I noticed that consuming V8 juice seemed to mitigate these non-ectopic arrythmias so after researching mineral requirements, I generated a custom mineral mix using MD Requirements and add it to V8 / aka GardenPatch juice and unnerving arrythmias became history. And by the way ablation CREATES ectopic foci so why is this being performed to “cure” an ectopic foci which is usually caused by an MI in the first place ??

I get them post 1st Ablation, pre ablation they came for me at rest, now post they come for me when I'm active, I'm off all drugs, anything that involves lifting my arms around, bending down, just doing general stuff like shopping sets me off. If I try an punch through the barriers I pay for it by having a fast AF attack in the early hrs and then just even standing up would set me off for a few days, then with rest I'm back to being able to walk around again. Bit of a cycle. EP thinks and I agree that one or more of the Pulmonary veins have made a re-connection as he did achieve 100% isolation when I was there. Likely will have a touch up Ablation but not this side of Christmas, I think the more time I can give it he can make a better assessment of the scarring, I'm just coming up to 5 months so I'm hoping a light switch will flick at some point. I am resting soooooooo much better through and get peaceful nights getting off to sleep now

Ok had my ablation went well had a spot in the middle to fix then he woke me up to tell me he needed me to go into AFIB so he was gonna knock me all the way out I said ok that’s all I remember.i felt nothing! After surgery I was in my recovery room kinda remember them saying they had to shock me twice then then moved me to my bed and wheeled me to my room. Woke up an hour later she sat me a little up I said I’m hungry tried to eat but couldn’t eat much then after another hour I got to sit all the way up. She took the stitches out of my groin. Dr came in few hours later said I had an unusual case. Had to fix the four right valves of the top of my heart and he told me why but I don’t remember then one spot in the middle that was the one spinning making SVT. So I went home that night felt fine just took it easy the next day I was so sick! Thought maybe I caught the flu waiting till the next AM to go to ER turns out my potassium was super low witch makes you feel really crappy I’ve never felt like that. Went home same day from ER 6 hours later. Just rested today is day 7 and I feel good I still have no pain in my heart or groin it’s tender but doesn’t hurt. The two things I wish would go away are the fast HR mine is still up like 110 and then these weird one hiccups I keep having like deep in my chest never had them before. All in all I’m happy got it. Oh also I feel like I’m breathing in to much air like I breath then cough cause it takes my breath away. 🤷🏻‍♀️ hope it works but I’m not scared to do it again.

I had my ablation 11 weeks ago for concealed WPW, and from then I'm having more ectopics than before. 2 times I had like an "episode" of ectopics, because I felt them coming one after another for around 30 seconds, both triggered by bloating of the stomach, and for a brief moment I haven't felt my pulse on the neck because of the ectopics. Is that normal aswell, to experience them in a row? Is it still not dangerous? I'm happy that I've found you, it really makes me more calmer to hear these explanations because I'm a really anxious person, and unfortunately my EP didn't said anything about the healing process after ablation and I didn't know what to expect.

When my pulse is fast, I don't feel pain in chest or dizzy, but I do feel a little jittery & later pain in left arm & hand. This is the only time of day that this happens. Also, my resting heart rate is usually in the 70-80 b/s. Is this something that I should be concerned about? I have had blood tests and ECG and ECO test and chest X-rays but no physician has seemed concerned, these all reports were goods. Is this any heart problem? Is this GERD or Vagus nerves problem. If this is about vagus nerves problem then how can I improve it. I need your help. Thank you Sir.

I have a pacemaket with a monitor so know it was inly once. My EP wants me to keep taking Pradaxa. He is an EP here in Florida. Also had NSVT with symptoms of white out, ( near pass out) 1 time in nearly a year. Still scared to go very far driving. I was on high dose Metoporol when both these things happened. Switched to coreg. Feel better on it. But, everytime I get a skip I am terrified I will have NSVt . i am 66 years old.very obese but losing weight. Could I do a phone call with you? Thank you , Debbie van Dijk in Florida( its warm here!!)

I had tachycardia, then Afib. Had a monitor installed. Than had an ablation. Went back 2months later and told I now have slow heart rate with my heart stopping. Not just skipping beat. Shown the print out from my monitors. Going in monday for a watchman to be installed. I had 2 strokes and a heat attack before being diagnosed with Afib 6 months ago. This started about 20 years ago but now at 66 their talking a pacemaker. Has the ablation from the Afib caused the slow heart rate with heart stopping?
@derekmckean5593
@derekmckean5593 2 года назад
Yes it could. It's possible during the ablation that the doctor accidently burned or froze the GOOD electrical conductors for your heart, not just the offending ones. My doctor was worried about this during my 2nd ablation as the bad connections were so close to the good electrical conductors. If he had gone just a little too far, then I could have required a pacemaker myself. You may want to consider a 2nd opinion from another electrophysiologist.

Then lowered my dilitizem from 180 to 120. Came home and I wake in the 120's and barely walk around without getting sob I get into the 115 rate. Why they take me off wat controlled my rate..

Hi doctor , here is my issue. I had pacs for some time going on and they can be irritating . I recognized them first time 5 months ago, and they are not that often . 3 days ago i experienced pacs for 30 minutes in a row and in er i had ecg which was normal and they told me its fine. Also im 17 and always had strong adrenaline ( in case it means something ). Otherwise im healthy. WHat should i do now? What are chance it is cause by paroxymal afib or something i dont know , its bothering me a lot.. I watched the video about enlarged left atrial but i dont know if i have that, probably not i guess.

Thank you for the videos, they help a lot. I have a question related to that: Elevated heart rate after an ablation. I had two ablations for a tachycardia with AFib symptoms, one electro ablation in June that was not 100% successful and a cryo-ablation which was apparently more so. Since that last ablation a month ago my heart rate seems to be on average 30 BPM above what it used to be. A simple walk will usually put me at 130-140 BPM. Is that normal? I am a bit worried since it does not seem to be calming down. I don't have the AFib symptoms anymore with the hammering arrhythmic beats where I feel like fainting, so that's good, but am a bit worried that my heart is not going back to normal any time soon...

Heard from a decent cardiologist that ectopics can last over a year after ablation but they normally do improve with time so hang in there. After ablation your heart is injured and can take over a year to mend. What about having ectopics after ablation when you have SVT? Or does it matter?
@ChrisHRPK
@ChrisHRPK 3 года назад
I just had an SVT ablation 2 weeks ago and have been having more ectopics since. I strongly believe it's mostly down to anxiety mixed with the inflammation mentioned in this video. Though our condition is usually treated with less, more precise ablation, I guess it would still cause an inflamatory response in and around the heart. I notice as I'm writing this that your procedure would've been a year ago. How have you improved since?
