Eczema, or dermatitis, is a group of conditions characterized by inflammation of the skin. Among the many types of dermatitis, the most common is atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema. Very often, when not specified otherwise, the term “eczema” is used to describe the atopic type.
Symptoms of atopic dermatitis include rashes, redness, scaling, and occasionally small blisters. Depending on the patient’s age, these patches may appear on the face, scalp, neck, inside the elbows, behind the knees, on the buttocks, hands and feet. The condition evolves in the form of recurrent inflammatory flare-ups followed by periods of remission. Flare ups can be triggered upon contact with irritants such as soap, detergents, rough fabric or certain foods. A dry atmosphere, changes in temperature, dental eruptions and stress are also common triggers. Over time, the skin can become thickened, bumpy and constantly itch, even when the inflammation is not flaring up. Atopic eczema usually starts in early childhood and MAY last into adult life. Most children outgrow the disease with age but their skin may remain dry and easily irritable.
Atopic dermatitis is an allergic disease. The cause is unknown but it is likely to involve genetic and environmental factors. Atopic eczema often runs in families whose members also tend to develop hay fever, asthma and certain food allergies. Most notable is the gene that encodes for filaggrin, a protein involved in water retention and is responsible for the skin barrier function. Mutations in the filaggrin gene cause dry skin and, as a result, a strong susceptibility to the disease. Eczema is NOT contagious.
There is no cure for atopic dermatitis. Treatments aim to relieve symptoms, reduce frequency of flare ups and prevent skin infection. A treatment plan may include:
- Lifestyle changes: bathe at least once a day but avoid soaps; wear silk clothing and avoid wool; avoid allergy triggers.
- Skincare: use oil-based, fragrance-free moisturizers to keep the skin hydrated during remissions.
- Medications: anti-inflammatory drugs such as steroid creams can be used during flare-ups. Antibiotics may be required if skin infection occurs.

From my experience.. 1) Lessen your stress. Think of it as skin boils and your skin needs moisture and your body needs water and PROPER FOOD DIGESTION and DAMAGE FREE INTESTINE. 2) Use moisturizer. 3) Start drinking more water ((NOT WHILE EATING - because it might cause IMPROPER DIGESTION)) than you usually drink even it is from the day you feel the start of first itching. 4)Lessen GLUTEN in your diet. I avoided taking TOO MUCH PROTEIN which I usually did before. I eat gluten and protein included food but NOT too much. 5)Avoid drying the skin using harsh soaps while bathing. It helped me.. Hope this might help someone. I still get it but not too much and I'm able to control it.

I've had eczema for as long as i can remember, throughout my childhood it was commonly on my legs and arms. I remember once I couldn't bare to look at my eczema when it got so bad, I remember telling my mum it was scary. In the recent years, eczema has transitioned away from my arms and legs and have found a nice spot on my hands. During bad times, i couldn't wash my hands, since the eczema was constant throughout my hand it always felt like my whole hand was burning, including fingertips. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night due to how itchy it is, another problem I've struggled with is scratching it in my sleep, I do a good job of not scratching it when I'm concious, but I can't control that, it really just sucks when you wake up with another rash bleeding. I just wish it would go away, but it helps that I can relate to a lot of you guys in the comments.

I've been dealing with eczema ever since I was 1 year old. It's been affecting me throughout my life since then...it has affected me mentally and physically as well. Many factors such as my family, school, the outside world and even the internet throughout its false advertisement about reality, have affected me to the point of reaching depression and feeling awful about myself and my mere existence. It's bad, I know but as years have passed, it's gotten better but I still haven't fully - and I'm not sure if I'll ever will- recovered yet. It's been affecting me at my workplace now but I still try to manage my stress levels and my anxiety as much as I can. I've been diagnosed with Severe Asthma, Chronic Rhynitidis(?) and Severe Chronic Atopic Dermatidis. Despite changing doctors and medication it still hasn't gotten better for me as of yet, though whenever I get into the sea the sea salt helps me with my skin and almost everything on my skin is gone. But despite all of that, I hope one day the doctors will come with a permanent solution for this burden. I'm glad to read that many people with this problem have finished their journey and they're at a better place compared to where they used to be before. And even if the doctors don't find a permanent solution, I'll try my best and be patient with what I have and I'll remind myself that I'm not alone in this journey since many people may be still dealing with Atopic Dermatidis and may be in a worst state than me. I'd love to see more awareness of Atopic Dermatidis so people won't have to stare at us as some kind of freaks or feel pity on us, since we're our on fighters trying our best to cope and survive with that 'curse' that we carry (metaphorically). I wish you all a strong-willed journey and to remind yourselves that you're not alone and you'll never be! ^^

@@shantaloupe4243 I don't fully understand it, but I believe that the removal of toxins, parasites and other harmful things cures the eczema. The eczema she had on her arms and legs was the first to be healed and all that never came back. All I can say is why not give it a try? What is there to lose? I have had eczema for many years in various different places. I'm not sure if it's just me, but common 100% coconut oil, applied once/twice daily (do not rinse it off) gets it off in a week or so and as long as I keep applying it, my skin remains pretty clear, whereas if I stop using it, it returns in like 2 weeks. I'm not saying this because I claim to know about a miracle cure for eczema... but if I can just help 1 person get better than that is enough.

@Bella M I am always in favour of natural alternatives cause even if they don't work, at least you have no side effects. Give it a try and you might also consider adding common aloe vera gel on top of coconut oil. It reduces itching a lot for me. Hope it helps

I’ve had it since I was born and it’s making it hard for me at school with showing any skin. I do stress about things a lot and that makes it even more difficult. I pray every day that it gets better 😪 hopefully time does it’s magic.

One time when i was working at taco bell the skin around my beard and neck on my face started to flare up. After hours of heat from the food line hitting my face the itch became unbearble and i went to the bathroom. I didnt even make it in and ending up rubbing the extremely itchy and dry area. I tried realy hard not to scratch but it felt so good that i ended up digging my nails in and i almost moaned out loud haha. I didnt care who might have walked up i was in a trance. Afterwards i looked down and saw a lot of skin flakes on my shirt i was shocked cause i never had excema on my face. I ended up putting water on it to help with the scales but that made it way worse. My neck looked red and patchy afterwards with disturbing black dots everywhere due to my beard hair sticking out of the itchy patches.

Water fasting very good. Make sure you are drinking enough water at any case. Diet. Chocolate was bad for me. Dairy. Water fasting good for healing skin much faster. One you won't hear from your doc is to ask yourself if you are addicted to moisturizer for relief. My trick for this is to wean yourself off excessive moisturizer, too much application can dirty the skin. Remember, focus on more water intake, and healthier diet.

Using different creams or medications is a big risk in this kind of condition without prescribed of an expert. If you experience this like mine i do consult first to a dermatologist. After that she suggested 3 medications and after applying it for 1 week my eczema was gone i do apply it continously so that it will never get back again. Hope this helps that you need to consult a professional dermatologist first before doing or taking actions

Eczema is a diet issue!!! I struggled terribly for much of the last 3 years, losing countless hours of sleep, enduring more pain than I could explain, scratching myself to no end, and avoiding people countless times out of discomfort and shame. A couple months ago I learned that it stemmed from my diet, and I've been learning what my body likes and doesn't like, and it has been making a world of difference! It seems to me that my triggers included gluten, eggs, and sugar. Do your own research (there's plenty of material on RU-vid, reddit, etc), don't listen to most doctors, and find what the cause is because eczema is absolutely curable! Also, I highly recommend taking a collagen supplement and a good probiotic (AG1 for me). God bless all of you in your recovery!!

The way of treatment is quite simple for me who suffered eczema for 6 years and finally cured, just stay away from industrialized zone and sleep early, I used to be highly allergic to hot pepper and seafood since 16 yo, which will cause rashes on my right hand for sure, even if I just avoid to eat them dermatitis on my hand still kept happenning, then I moved from China to Australia for three years and visited hospital in Sydney Uni, neither DXM nor mometasone could help, I did the research so many years in order to find a way to cure, I found that the mechanism is that when I sleep late, some certain enzyme in intestine failed to react at a certain night time interval , due to incorrect body temperature, foreign protein could penetrate intestine and goes into blood and generate IgE, which could casue rashes ,itching and overreact of the immume system.

@@novakashi6470 alright. So I got acquainted with a USA company called PURE. And they deliver a health system( in product form) that completely cleanses, balances and builds the body. Therefore ridding it of any impurities, toxins, illnesses, diseases and completely replacing it with vitamins, nutrients , antioxidants and the rest! Just taking these products is responsible for the reversal of many illnesses today like diabetes, high blood pressure, AUTISM, yes autism, colon cancers and skin conditions like yours! But do you reside in the USA?

@@nointernet7276 Trust me, you can cure it. Eczema is the cause of lymphatic fluid flooding and evacuating through the skin. We think that there is no cure for it, but there really is. Our body consumes things we're not supposed to consume, hence why all of these issues (which include eczema) appear.

corticosteroids are great. otc hydrocortisone, and if your skin is too bad for that, dermatologist can prescribe cat 6 steroid such as triamcinolone / fluocinolone acetonide.

This video was so accurate and I feel like noone with eczema will never know how painful the experience is and I feel like when people say "stop scratching" it's not like we can't but the itchyness is so much that you are forced to scratch and at a point in time my skin was so itchy that my parents had to buy me gloves to avoid harming myself when I used to scratch in my sleep

I had it now and praise God there's a solution for it. The doctor recommended me to use Hypo soap, betamethasone Valerate/Gentamycin Sulfate, meds lorarex for the itchiness and the anti histamine tablets. And my face is getting better and better. Hope and pray for complete healing. 😇😇😇
