S2E6. The Seminole Wekiva Trail and the West Orange Trail are both very popular trails in the Orlando area. How to get from one to the other by bicycle? Between the two trails is a gap of over 3 miles. The Orlando Gap. Florida Coast to Coast riders: you need to watch! In this video, Ed takes a close look at the route options. There are segments of bike paths, segments of sidewalk, segments of bike lanes and segments of high traffic volume. The segments combine in multiple ways to make up the 11 route options that are presented here so that you can decide which is the route that is best for you. All 11 route options are available as GPX files on Ride With GPS under routes for Ed Cycles!

I've seen many Coast to Coast videos and all ignore or gloss over this gap, one where traffic conditions are so important in choosing an alternative. Thanks for putting in so much work and making it clear and thorough. This is really useful info.

Thanks Ed, appreciate everything you do, I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Great to know about traffic counts, that and heatmaps are great tools to evaluate routes.

Thank you for making and posting this video. I plan to start the trail with my daughter this weekend and your walk through of all the options for this gap has been extremely helpful in our planning. We are planning on using option 11.

Option 11 seems to be the most popular. If you want gps files, they are available for all options and both eastbound and westbound. Go to ridewithgps.com and select 'routes' and search Ed Cycles Orlando Gap. Thanks for posting feedback!

I always go maitland blvd to obt, right on obt, left hiawasee, right clarcona ocoee to west ornge trail. Side walks the whole way. Riding with traffic on any of these roads especially obt is crazy

Thanks, Ed. Very helpful. We're leaving from St. Pete 2/26/24 and plan to use option #11 on our trip to T-ville and on to Edgewater/ NSB. Great job!

I'm currently planning a C2C ride, and being from the gulf coast side of the trail, I don't have first hand knowledge of this gap! This video was SO helpful in picking a safe route for my group!

It makes me happy to read your comments. This is exactly my reason for making the video - to show the options so that you can be better informed and decide which is best for you. Thank you for posting!

Absolutely fantastic info. Thanks for all the effort. I live in the Route 50 gap and someday hope to do as good a version of this for that gap.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully, the route 50 gap will not exist in the near future.

Previously I've gone west on 436 from the SWT to where it hits the trail at Forest Ave. There is a bike lane but I mainly stayed on the sidewalk due to the high speed traffic. I have also heard that taking Rose Ave all the way to Clarcona Ocoee Rd then follow Clarcona Ocoee Rd to the spur toward the trail just past N Apopka Vineland Rd. It should drop you at the Apopka Vineland Outpost.

Yes, the Rose Avenue to Clarcona Ocoee Rd to the spur trail to WOT is an option shown in the video.

Thanks for this video, this will be very helpful for people researching the C2C. The three times I did the C2C, I took the Rose Ave/Clarcona Ocoee route. Pretty straightforward, and most importantly to me, no traveling on high volume roads. Hopefully the gap will be connected soon.

Great day for a bike ride. Thanks for all of the options. What do you think is the safest option?
@Ed_Cycles
@Ed_Cycles 5 месяцев назад
Good question. I intentionally did not give my opinion as I realize that everyone has different levels of comfort regarding riding in traffic lanes and riding on sidewalks and so forth. Personally, for the level of traffic through this area, I like the wide sidewalk along Clarcona Ocoee Road and the sidewalk distance from the roadway along Pine Hills Road. So I am comfortable riding sidewalks where there is a low level of pedestrians like thru this gap. If I was leading a large group, I would be more inclined to use the roadway along Pine Hills and use most of the right lane. It's a tough call and everyone needs to decide for themself which route is safest.

If you have to get in the car, then I wouldn't be interested

Yes, and that is why I showed those alternative routes. People have asked about biking those routes, such as along US441 to get through this gap. I included them to show you how the route looks and for you to draw your own conclusions. No one knows what the viable options are until you explore all of the options.
