Using inflation calculator $2,800 in 1986 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $7,566 today, an increase of $4,766 over 36 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 2.80% per year between 1986 and 2022.

Bent wheels: back then the city of Seattle Mayer had seriously cut the city budget to repair any of the streets. Potholes became rampant throughout the city. Allegations of corruption over misappropriation of the city budget and public dismay over getting your wheels damaged by a pothole lead to the creation of a special pothole 'tiger team' to go find and repair potholes, including a hotline to call to report them. It was a big deal back then.

What funny is that I've done "One Lap of America" for a road trip. Granted, it took three months and involved a slight detour to Europe, but it was still a full lap around all the perimeter (and some non-perimeter) states, going clockwise from CA. Highly recommended if you have the time and the driving inclination.

The reason the Quattro handles that way is because it has a Gleason Torsion differential in it. Which has an interesting story itself in racing. Audi tried to put it on the front and back wheels but found it would turn into a corner faster than you wanted it to. Which was a very scary thing.

at 16:56, there is a Citröen XM, with hydropneumatic suspension. I thougt those never made it to the US! There were several versions, a 2L 4cyl, the Diesel, and the 3L V6, same engine as the DeLorean. Those are super comfortable, but not the fastest thing out there. " To drive a slow car fast, he said..."
@mrfrenzy.
@mrfrenzy. 2 года назад
I had an XM V6. It really is super comfortable and had all the features back then. It would be the perfect car for cannonballing since you can load it up with infinite amounts of fuel and the hydraulic suspension would compensate.

This Cannon Ball talk reminds me of a real road race we had here in Australia back in the 1980s or 1990s or both. In the Northern Territory, the main north/south highway from Darwin to Alice Spring, in those days had no speed limit at all except in certain places. For several years the Cannon Ball Race was run along this Highway, til two Japanese dudes driving a Ferrari killed themselves, and of course, the Territory Govt had the typical knee jerk reaction and introduced speed limits. 8 years ago - 2016, I drove the entire length of this highway from Darwin to Adelaide in South Australia, until I drove it, I did not know for several long stretches the speed limit had been removed once again and legal to travel at any speed. My tyres were not rated for high speed so had to content myself to 100 mph.

Loved those old Audis. I had an old 5000s… the square one, no Quattro. My pal, Nigel and I would go to the local Audi shop and see what they had. One day… 4000 CS Quattro. We were teens still, but we got the keys to that machine for a test drive. I was driving on the main strip… Nigel asked how fast we were going. Passing everything in sight. Just 40. I was wrong. That was the tach reading 40x100 rpm. Hell, we were going 85+!! Idiot me can’t read a gauge.😂😘

The problem with exotic material strong rings is when you jam your finger, it swells, and the ring must be cut. You wouldn't want to wear a tungsten ring unless you are willing to lose the finger.
@danl6634
@danl6634 2 года назад
Funny thing, it's surprisingly easy to get a tungsten ring off; they're very brittle & I shattered two of them before i switched to titanium. Which reacted with some carb cleaner, and i eventually landed on white gold! Only took 5 wedding rings to get it right... till my ex wife & I decided it was time for neither of us to wear rings lol.

My hair stood on end when he said " nothing like driving a slow car fast" because I own a 70 Karmann Ghia with a cheap but tight suspension setup and only got a 1671cc engine pushing 77hp and when flying down a twisty road keeping up with a Porsche with 300+ HP it was the greatest feeling in the world when we stopped at the gas station and the guy was blown away I kept up that long until the long straight. It saddened me when me and my wife got hit by a teenager playing on her phone at 55 mph while we wait at a traffic light destroying my dad's car I grew up in for 28 years until the day he handed me the keys and I drove that lime green beauty for 6 years until that day and now she sits under a tarp waiting for the day to be a donor car to my next Ghia we find.
