The latter episodes were awful compared to the earlier ones. Showing the difference between Ed O'Neill's Creativity and Direction style compared to Amanda Bearse's lack of creativity and direction. Amanda Bearse has opened up to her outright hatred of all men. She was a Misandrist.
@@mrd1433 I'm sure that's true. What I'm saying is when the title says "Ed O'Neill opens up..." I kind of expexct I'm gonna hear something from Ed O'Neil, and not just a story about him
This video is nothing but a lazy, pathetic rehashing of other videos that have been in RU-vid for years. There's not a single new, or unknown fact here. It's a down vote from me.
I remember Ed O'Neil saying in an interview that he once asked Amanda which of us do you think would cause the show to end if one of us were to leave? (Paraphrasing) Good point Al😅😅
Ed O'Neil was the star of the show. If he wanted Amanda Bearse fired, she would have been gone. They could have replaced her in a minute. They couldn't replace him. That was the true power dynamic...and Amanda Bearse knew it. On the other hand, maybe the fact that they didn't like each other, brought spice to their portrayal.
Of course, Ed was #1 but I find it disturbing that there was conflict to this extent between the two. I felt that Bearse contributed greatly to the show. If his and Faustino's reaction of two women getting married was one of mockery, I think less of him and Faustino. The show was what it was but thinking that the two guys would not show respect and sensitivity to Bearse's wedding and choice of attire at it, makes the two guys true jerks which I would rather have believed was just part of their characters on the show; not actually who they were as people. @@dirklerxstpratt2112
@@apprentessjgooden2263He was the Michael Jordan/LeBron James of the show. If he wanted her gone, she would have been gone. Directors and producers are a dime a dozen. They had directors and producers long before Bearse became one, they would have them long after she was gone if Ed O'Neill wanted them.
I was honestly distracted by all the hilarious Bundy moments while watching, to even pay attention to the commentary or deceitful presentation of the video…but after it ended, I was like “eh”!?
I love married with children I can care less that they didn’t like each other, they made one of the best shows ever. Wish they still made shows like this.
💯 ... My favorite also .... Watched while in college when I should have studied ... But in retrospect the show was time well spent, very well spent. 😅☯️🙏
People are too touchy and sensitive and cant take a joke nowadays....we'll never see shows like this again because that one Karen from Michigan who complained about the show? They've now multiplied like cockroaches and ruined if for everybody. RIP true comedy shows

@@buckjones4901yes, it’s funny you say that because in an interview with Ed O’Neal he said that he told Amanda that he has a button that says “Get rid of Amanda Bearse.” And then he said “you don’t have a button that says “get rid of Ed O’Neal.” What he meant by that was all of the producers were on his side and all he had to do was talk to them and tell them that he can’t work with her and they would fire her
Ed and Amanda may have had that beef, but the fact that they fed off each other so well in the craft of acting despite the feud shows me that these are two of the great ones. They performed together magically and my memory of these two will always be their masterclass working with each other in comedy. Bless them both!
@@stephenolder4552 I've noticed a few scenes where Ted McGinley (Jefferson) would over-emphasize facial expressions to Ed and Amanda at times. Was it a way to keep the filming lighthearted and the episode they were filming calmly flowing? I noticed this a few times when Al and Marcy would butt heads, especially during their later No-Mam years. Have a good one.
There was an interview with Ed and he said that Bearse who is a feminist but the man hating type had been a producer and director on a couple episodes and went to the EP and Director wanting Ed fired and was told , MWC can go on without you but cannot and will not without Ed, he said that infuriated her to no end.
@@fightmilk8613 i think you might be overstating that a bit. between rapists like roman polanski and harvey weinstein, murderers like OJ Simpson, all around assholes like Trump, and kiddy diddlers like the director of jeepers creepers, vergara is pretty far down the list, bro.
I remember when she came out and she was acting like she was the first person who had ever done so. Ed was busy going through a horrible divorce at the time, so I'm pretty sure he couldn't have cared less what his co-star was doing in the bedroom. I also remember reading how Amanda started getting bossy on the set and tried to play the victim card when Ed told her to "put a sock in it". She thought she was this groundbreaking star and was going to shine bright, but she was a one-trick pony. Honestly, nobody remembers who she is, while Ed O'Neill is a legend.
Her problem is that she didn't like Ed and Faustino's scene of humor. And hated Ed's power over the show. She took a shot at the king and missed. When she should've accepted that it's Ed show and she lucky to be a part of it.
10 years is a long run for any show especially a comedy. 5 years is about the right length of time for them. Ed O'Neill managed to have two long running comedy shows. That's about as much as any actor could ask for.
And many roles on screen in movies, other sitcoms and now Modern Family .. so there's that. I'm 50, been watching him work since my early 20'$ partner.
@@raghost15As a fan you are right that MWC went on a couple of seasons too long. Most long running smash hit comedies stay on too long. That is why for instance I give props to Jerry Seinfeld for ending his own legendary show at the perfect time. And even walking away from tens of millions of dollars from NBC who was begging him and his team led by Larry David to continue for at least 2 years. With that said, I think it’s a disgrace seriously that Fox and then Owner Rupert Murdoch did not allow a final farewell show. Before Fox got tv coverage to the NFL, MWC and other hit shows such as The Simpsons, Beverly Hills 90210 and In Living Color was keeping them alive as then America newest TV Network.
@@americangiant1003 Like someone said in a comment "... Fox execs had undisguised contempt for Married .. with children..." and the only reason they kept it during early seasons it's because it was their only profitable show, until The Simpsons caught fire (along with Beverly Hills 90210, NFL coverage). The creators never realized that or turned a blind eye until it was too late
@@raghost15 Sounds perfectly like the MO of Rupert Murdoch throughout his polarizing career as arguably the most influential Media Mogul in TV History Worldwide. Morals be damned and keep a show even a highly controversial one that was/is a hit whether it’s MWC or 25 plus years later with his Conservative leaning Talk Show Hosts and Commentators on Fox News.
There was an episode where Marcy's cousin(Amanda Bearse in dual roles) pays a visit, and the cousin reveals that she's a lesbian. The funny irony about that episode is that most of the main characters got along better with the cousin instead of Marcy herself😂😂.
Something you failed to mention is that when Amanda started getting a swelled head Ed set her straight that it would take one call from him and she would be out. The show without "Marcy" would be fine. There would be NO show without "AL". That's what really made her bitter.
Ted Mcguinley totally owned the role of Jefferson Darcy but I always though it would have made a fun running joke if Marcy got married every season with her husband running away (or offing himself).
@@Provos7777 I actually just remembered that, There is absolutely nothing new worth watching tv or movie wise. I have a couple of days off. I am going to binge watch Married with Children.
When he joined the show jumped the shark. He was horrible, way too much like Al, but a very sub-par actor with bad comedic timing (There's a reason why when he joins a TV Show it goes instantly downhill and cancelled. Happened with Happy Days, Love Boat, Dynasty and Hope & Faith). Steve Rhodes worked so perfectly because he was this typical career yuppie who slow but surely got changed by Al's negative influence over him and that made it hilarious. And Garrison was 10 times the actor McGinley was.
One of the best shows of all time, 100 Percent!! She should have been fired, She loved the control and taking the money but complained every step of the way, Typical feminist
No one watched the show to see Bearse. Everyone wanted to see Ed (and Christina). If there's any question about who was beloved on the set, search for the video where he showed up unexpectedly on Applegate's set and watch her emotional and honest reaction.
Isn't it curious that she is the only one to have problem with anything in terms of cast and crew? As far as I know nobody else did, much less made such a stink about it. Kinda makes you wonder who the real problematic one was.
I loved Married with Children.. One of the funniest shows ever made. I laughed so hard at so many episodes because of Ed and the cast..I was always in tears. I really didn’t know about this beef.. this is new to me.
Or James another legendary championship sports team, Micheal Jordan and Scottie Pippen did not like each other either playing for the 6x NBA World Champion Chicago Bulls.
I just watched Ed talk about Amanda- the no invite for Ed her lesbian wedding. Ed confronted her: what gives? She said he would laugh at the two brides walking up the aisle in tuxedos. Ed listened and laughed because the very idea WAS hilarious, and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. I'm still cracking up!🎉
IMO, this was mirrored in society. Ed O’Neil was the 80s culture that was kicking and screaming as it brought into the 90s PC culture that represented by Amanda Bearse. Ed wanted to keep the show rooted in what made it popular. Amanda wanted the show to reflect the 90s supposed nuanced correctness. They should have listened to O’Neil
For what it matters, NO MA'AM seemed like a compromise where Al would be the leader of the old guard against Marcy and her friends. I respect both and find it sad that they never buried the hatchet. Ed O'Neill was great in "Modern Family" and could be Al-like in some ways.
I worked the show for 11 seasons. It was Ed and only Ed. He was the show. People watched to see Al Bundy react to the situations. Once it had a following the Bundys were all the show. If Ed had wanted MarciDarci gone, she would have been gone in a second(like Steve Darci). The power she had as director was minuscule. It is the Executive Producers medium(but they are busy on next weeks script, editing last weeks episode). All were very professional, talented and worked until 2/3 am to do a good show. Great times
The character of Al Bundy ranks alongside Britain's Alf Garnett as one of the funniest ever created. The character of Marcy Darcy, the forerunner of today's Karen's, was merely an irritation to be endured while watching two geniuses, Ed & Katy, at work.
The final cut on this hilarious sitcom is really all anyone should care about. I can't think of a show that made me laugh from the gut more than Married...With Children. The credit goes to the writers and the ensemble cast and the bravery of FOX to go where no network has gone before.❤️
LeoGee Fox as a then new network in 1988, 5 years before they got the NFL TV Contract (later MLB Baseball as well), had no choice to go “where no tv network or station in America had gone” back then to fill in programming. FYI MWC in its 2 or 3rd season around 1988 was on the verge of cancellation. Then an Ultra Conservative Housewife (Pre MAGA era) began a massive campaign to cancel MWC sighting how “sexist” and political incorrect it was. Instead that protest backfired as MWC started to get new Viewers after the media attention and the rest is history.
OK. But it wasn't Terri the housewife from Michigan that caused me to laugh hard every time I watched the show. She gave them free publicity but it was the quality of the comedy that kept them on the air for all those years.
Terry Rakolta (born Terry Lynn Stern, September 18, 1944) is a housewife, homemaker and former anti-obscenity activist, best known for leading a boycott against the sitcom Married. . . With Children in 1989.
Amanda Bearse's break out role was in Fright Night, before this. The fact that she pretty much was never seen in much of anything since this show ended, and Ed O'Neil went on to do lots of acting work including Modern Family says which of the two won that feud. Bearse has barely any credits whatsoever, she hasn't been on TV in more than 10 years and hasn't had a directing gig since 2016.
In retrospect, Ed is a household family favorite and continues to enjoy a hugely popular following, whereas “what’s her name” is just that… a “one and done, 15 minutes of fame” hanger-oner
There was a famous Olympic episode(as a tribute to the 1996 Atlanta Games) where one of the athletes who guest starred in that episode mistook Marcy for Bruce(now Caitlyn) Jenner😂😂😂. That episode was a sign of things to come. Fast forward today, it's ironic that "Caitlyn" Jenner actually looks more like a woman than Amanda😂😂😂.
Ed once said to Amanda, "I have something you do not have." "What?" "A 'I can't work with this person.' button." He goes on to say it made her backdown and really had no intention of using it. Just a nice guy.
The latter episodes were awful compared to the earlier ones. Showing the difference between Ed O'Neill's Creativity and Direction style compared to Amanda Bearse's lack of creativity and direction. Amanda Bearse has opened up to her outright hatred of all men.
One of my all-time favorite Sitcoms. It's sad to me that that Ed and Amanda didn't get along, but each of them had completely opposite values, so I can understand it. Although Ed made the show, Amanda was great in her antagonist role as Marcy. I wish both of them great health and prosperity, because both of these people gave me SO many laughs!!
Yes I was a fan and they still make me laugh. I had no idea about their divisions....I'm guessing that Bearse had a a lot of frustrations bottled up inside of her.
I had a serious crush on Amanda but was devastated to find out she was a Lesbian in real life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! another fantasy crushed !!!!!
I was a Huge Fan Of "Married With Children." And I Didn't Know About The Fued Behind The Scenes. That Was Good Info. Ed O'Neal Is A Very Good Actor. He Is One My Favorites.
She didn't land the role of Marcy Darcy, she landed the role of Marcy Rhodes. She didn't become Marcy Darcy until she drunkenly married Jefferson midway through season 5.
Yeah a real KAREN. The latter episodes were awful compared to the earlier ones. Showing the difference between Ed O'Neill's Creativity and Direction style compared to Amanda Bearse's lack of creativity and direction. Amanda Bearse has opened up to her outright hatred of all men.
Quite simply, she developed an over-inflated ego, and became full of herself. As much as this video paints him in a negative light, he was the class act. Even though her status on set went up, he once told her that he had a button. That button being that if he ever really got fed up with her, he could go to the producers, say he couldn't work with her anymore, and she'd be fired. He then pointed out to her that she didn't have such a button. She couldn't do the same to him because he was always the bigger star compared to her. And, he was right. To his credit, he never pushed that button no matter how things got on the set.
It tickles me knowing that what we saw on set between those two was real!!! 😅 Long live Al Bundy!! The greatest sarcasm master of all time! Still my favorite show that ever aired!
When is Ed gonna speak? Oh, he's not? Then why the hell is this video called, "Ed O'Neill Opens Up About the Married with Children Co Star Who Hated Him Most" ? With a thumbnail pic of Ed O'Neill being interviewed?
Married with Children is probably by far the best show to ever exist ever and it kind of sucks that we would never get something like this ever again in the current day
Loved the show and personally I feel Ed was the brains behind the show. When Amanda decided to rock the boat so to speak she sank it to prevent anyone else from having to share the spotlight
So a lesbian feminist who wanted to push the message all the way back in the 80s and 90s didn't get along with a man. He tried to guide she called it mansplaining. She decided to get married to another woman, both dressed in the masculine attire, and thought she snubbed Ed by not inviting him. Her pushing her agenda when she was a supporting actor and a diversity hire director led to problems? You mean like in Disney today and Budweiser last year? Maybe if she let the senior actor and star of the show do his thing the show would've lasted longer.
It was a politically incorrect comedy. He understood that. She was woke before woke had a title. It sounds like she tried to make the cast on and off the screen cater to her wokeness. It didn't happen.
I thought it was inexcusable for Bearse to exclude O'Neill from her wedding.. My wife said a few years back, that women could be catty. Apparently that's true even of gay women.
@@briansmith48 If no cast members were invited, I'd agree, but I understand that Ed O’Neill and David Faustino were the ONLY major cast members NOT to get invited.
It's very excusable... To invite him for what? So that guy could make fun of the best moment of her life? I guess she wanted people around, that she was sure wouldn't ruin her moment.
3:30 - So, a family friend worked on the show. She didn't invite Ed, Faustino or Ron Leavitt. Kim Weiskopf, who our friend was great friends with, said that while he was friends with Amanda, it was a terrible move. Ed essentially told her, "If there's no Al Bundy, there's no show. Piss off."
As a woman I’m sorry to say I think she came across that she didn’t like men at all , maybe at the start she kept it quiet but to exclude them both say a lot although saying that it was her wedding so totally up to her but strange just them two 🤔
Not mentioned in the video, but Amanada also did not invite series co-creator Ron Levitt to the wedding either, the man who had hired her for MWC. Ed has recently, on Jesse Ferguson's podcast, placed the start of the deterioration on his refusing to cede to Amanda's demand that he insist she and David Garrison be featured on the 1989 TV Guide cover alongside the occupants of chez Bundy. [TV Guide had a 4-person max stipulation]. It may be worth noting that, whilst this somewhat selective video states that Amanda is and always has been tight-lipped about the 'feud', in the same interview mentioned, and elsewhere, she unbegrudgingly states that Ed is a "great, great actor", and on many occasions Ed has expressed regret that they diverged after being so close. The Arctic Ice Shelf isn't the only thing slowly thawing!
Greatest show ever and far ahead of its time. After season 5 it slowly spiraled downward and became less than a shadow of its former self eventually with the exception of a few good and funny moments. It’s sad that in today’s whiny crybaby world that we’ll never again see a show this entertaining.
