This was more than likely from the 25 IKC (The Silver Anniversary) held at the Long Beach Arena in 1988. It was my first Internationals and I can remember it like it was yesterday.
TERRY SHEA is correct,i studied shito ryu,no thanks, found KEMPO,IT HAS SAVED MY LIFE TWICE IN A KNIFE FIGHT,BE DEAD WITHOUT IT, EVERY STRIKE IS A BLOCK,EVERY BLOCK A BLOW,IT WORKS
American Kenpo / Kempo is always versatile and highly technical and advance with more applications than that of your usual karate , taekwondo or striking arts. Kenpo Kempo is a no nonsense art provided you can palm heel strike , eye gouges , neck strikes , kidney and groin strikes , pressure points and breaking limbs or joints , it is purely an art. But Kenpo / Kempo have more scientific and pratical approach once you master the foundations.
Kenpo seems to have some good techniques but the demonstrations but it was demonstrated on someone who was standing still like a dummy. In a real fight, the other guy won't just stand there waiting to get his face kicked in.
@BushidoCode72 Just because they lost doesn't mean Kenpo is the Lesser Art. I assure you someone with the Skill of Ed Parker would school 99 % of all Martial Artist & I leave the 1 percent out because there's always room for improvement and there is always one person who rises to the top. Oh Ed Parker Thanks for the Legend and the Legacy. Kenpo Karate #1. Ps I never lost lol and i've taken champtionship kicks and didn't even move 3 inches. Its the Inner Stregth/Will/Focus/Balance/Intellect.
What was cool about this one is that in my favorites I have the same demo filmed from the other side of the stage from a different angle. Have you looked at that version yet?
I was itting with Frank Trejo yesterday in my dojo and we found this version posted on You Tube...it's great! Where did it come from? He said this was right after he recovered from breaking his neck and everybody said he was "done"...yeah, right!
this is just a demonstration of Kenpo techniques,I've worked out with some of those black belts, and you would never get near them in a real fight, they'd kill you. This is always the problem with youtube, everyone is an expert and everyone knows best, and everyone has an opinion. Kenpo is a very effective self defence, and so too,is a lot of other systems
Well I don't know you, so I don't know your ability, and your quite right, and I'm wrong to assume that they would kill you. However your missing the point here, this is just a Demo,However I stand corrected, it is the one who is determined the most, that wins out,and unfortunately training can't prepare for that,it's down to how you cope with fear, and your mental toughness, yours Hugh.
@KurtCobain198666 I'm not sure that's accurate. Ed was to me an outside the box kind of guy. It comes down to the person behind the martial art and to me Ed will always be the best until someone comes along that's better haven't seen anyone except a few that have come close like Bruce and Jet Li. I also like Jackie and Donnie
@KurtCobain198666 then what were lees celebrity students given more for what they paid? private lessons? yes there probably is a political tone for the celebrities but who is anyone to question the descretion of Ed Parker and other great teachers?they were human, maybe it was and honorarium type thing? look at the quality of his others like Paul Mills, tatum, speakman etc. talk it over with these guys and post please.....
@KurtCobain198666 ?? I haven't been to this post in a long while. Well I still think an Ed Parker in his prime would defeat a Bruce lee in his prime. Besides is not the Art its the person who makes the whatever Art the best. By the way that is a teaching from Ip Man Bruce Lee's teacher and mentor. ~DC~
All bs step through punch attacks. No one ever attacks like that for real. Exactly why all of these tma bs styles failed when matched in a cage or mats. It’s all bs. No matter how good it looks here.
@KurtCobain198666 ? Dude stop bashing Ken Parker. Look at this video. Good luck ever being half as good as he was. Lay off man. I doubt priscilla beat elvis but even if she did so what? There could be a thousand reasons why. Even a white belt can beat a black belt if they properly execute a move even if its just one move they have mastered. Don't write me again. ~DC~
