It confounds me to think this song is not a hit, or that it doesn't have millions of views and comments. It's so perfect. Every time I listen to it I just wanna go try play it and make cover.
This songs.... The beautiful guitar, the lyrics, the transitions, it's mood shifts so quickly between being sad and dreamy-happy.. i love it so much!!!
Lyrics : Oh your coffees gone cold in the middle of a northern storm For the south coast of Britain I don't think you can expect much more Than a train ride, through a country side that don't glitter like my home The way the Highway 1 in the midday sun outlines a sea that shines like gold (Oooh) Well she's a woman, she's a prize, so many men have died to own this land And every line and curve, so delicately preserves what's sculpted by God's hands And she'll love you if you're rich, she'll love you if you're poor, she don't care for mortal things And if you fall upon your darkest hour you'll be lifted by her wings. (Oooh) Cause California's not so far away for me to dream And I can reach out and touch the silver seams, as I cross the golden gate Where in my childhood I would lay And watch the hills turn into sea And drift so peacefully to sleep So if you find, your love's gone sour just put yourself to sleep And reminisce on what you've missed as you fall into a dream Oh she may not have the brains or the class but God she's got the looks And when you wake you'll quickly find California's got you hooked. (Oooh) Cause California's not so far away for me to dream And I can reach out and touch the silver seams, as I cross the golden gate Where in my childhood I would lay And watch the hills turn into sea And drift so peacefully to sleep Cause California's not so far away for me to dream And I can reach out and touch the silver seams, as I cross the golden gate Where in my childhood I would lay And watch the hills turn into sea It's such a shame this is a dream
Nice harmonies, really pulled me in, made me momentarily forget about the annoyances of the day. It also reminded me of how lucky I am to live in beautiful California.
Brighton! This is gonna sound kinda freaky but I lived in brighton then went to California, San Francisco in particular and lived there for 7 months, I'm back now and I have no idea how I stumble upon this song but I love it!
I'm so glad he followed me on twitter, I never would have discovered what an amazing voice he has! sounds like ben howard, and I LOVE ben howard. Looking forward to hearing more from Ed :) x
Is that PCH/hwy 1? I heard 'highway one' in a lyric and I suddenly noticed I knew just about all those places. Big Sur and Monterey are my yearly sanctuaries. You captured the magic of the pacific coast masterfully and for someone who cherishes that sacrad stretch of land that's saying a lot. I'll be sure to have it on my iPOD next time I bike the one.
Hi random musician guy. Your music's kinda cool- very patrick watson-esque. While listening, I imagined a rumbling bass on the track during the climax.. just a thought! Cheers.
I'm a massive Ben Howard fan - so when I got a Twitter follow from Ed and I checked out this tune I was immediately blown away. (Sorry for the comparison dude, hope you don't mind). This is a beautifully crafted song, gorgeous production, captivating video - Lovin your work :)
