As much as I enjoy these two, I must say that it has NOTHING on the original. Shane McGowan's drunken growl is utterly perfect for this song, and Kirsty MacColl has both the grit and the pipes to sell the story of two addicts in a love-hate relationship. This is not a song that is suited to such delicate voices. It's a song about finding joy amidst life's suffering, and Shane and Kirsty make you feel it.
I hate the change in the lyrics, we need to stop painting over things just because we don't like it. Weird world, it is like a kids version of a great song.
Like I’ve said before, nothing is going to be the original, but I appreciate all artists to seriously take this song and try to perform it or make a tribute to it because it is literally one of the best songs ever to come out of any sort of Christmas or holiday spirit
Right before they began I remember Ed said something like "The kids are going to love it but the adults are going to murder us for doing this" hehehe he was so right. lol
I love them both and they are great singers. I'm sorry but my heart will always belong to the original song. The singers were just so genuine, especially when they were cursing at each other.
