Ed Sheeran wrote this when he was 18. He played for a homeless shelter and met a sex worker named Angel. Pretty insightful for an 18 year old. You’re so right about being judgmental.

“Breathing in snowflakes”... talking about meth crystallizing in the pipe after cooling down. Meth will grab ahold of you and absolutely ruin your life. Watching it ruin my mother and sister, I myself, took a journey down that long dark road. Lost my job, apartment, and all my friends within 3 months. While at rock bottom, you can either stay there or go up. I remember being awake for 4 or 5 days straight and staring at myself in the mirror. I looked like a wild animal. I remember thinking “ how did I become everything I hated about my childhood?” It was right then when I told myself I became my own worst fear... I turned out like my mother. I stopped cold turkey. When I got sober and finished with withdraws, I found my mom. Now knowing how meth can control your life, I sat her down and told her I was sorry and that I forgive her for the mistakes she made. That I understand how she felt while being high. It filled that empty void that was causing pain in my life. If you know someone who’s addicted to meth, get them help.

When I left the uk armed forces I struggled , drugs n alcohol very bad to nearly suicide but had family that could fund a rehabilitation program n shrinks to the costs of thousands of pounds . I’m lucky but how many out there don’t have that support n go down a slippery slope that you can’t come bk from , great reaction 👊

Wet clothes dry house...as an addict if you don’t get high you get sick, shakes, cold sweats, pain, diarrhea, nausea , trying to get through the day becomes a struggle. People think “why don’t they just go get help?” The “help” available is $30,000 rehab stay where they throw you in a room and let you suffer...then they let you go three days later. At that point you gotta work to eat and how can you work when you can’t think, can’t even function? You can’t, so you go score and just like that you’re back on the A team. There ARE treatments that work but unless you are wealthy they are not available to you. The only treatment for heroin available for those without insurance that won’t get you locked up they are now trying to make illegal and that’s Mytragenia Speciosa aka Kratom. It’s a plant, it won’t kill you no mater how much you take but because it’s helping people get off oxy’s the pharmaceutical lobby says it’s not allowed for adults...if they do succeed I figure a lot more people will go back to taking deadly opioids. Great job USA. Keep making America Great...for the rich.

Very glad you reacted to this one, it is a very deep and meaningful song. Would’ve been interesting if you had watched a live performance where he told the story of why he wrote it in the beginning. But the video really tells the story too

Every time you post an Ed Sheehan song, I ask you the same thing. Please react to “Eraser” the Live Room F64 version and/or “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You” in the Live Lounge or “Bloodstream” Live. You have to do the live version because they are a completely different thing. Ed is so good at the slow jam that his records mainly contain the marketable stuff. But he has a totally different sound. You’ll get a completely different look at his talent.

I thought this was a love song until the day before yesterday when I read the lyrics. I guess it is a love song in messed up ways. What a heavy song! I'd never noticed had I not been a recovering addict, and hearing the beginning where he says "Inhaling Snowflakes" and then in the chorus I caught him saying "Go mad for a couple grams". How'd I go a decade and not notice this?!? Life is easy to give up on, and getting high is easier. Getting high kills those inhibitions you once possessed and everything becomes about getting high, how, who, where, and mainly, what do I need to do to get that quarter of a pill off of you fam, I'm sick, oh and do you have a spoon, needle, water, and something that I can cut this cigarette filter with? Yeah... That's a rough spot to be in. I watched my entire family go through it and swore I would never. Life has a crazy way of showing you differently, and showing you what you will do in situations you think you will react differently to. Don't think it won't happen to you. I was a firefighter for 4 years. It started with my fire chief and two city cops that I truly trusted. But its all good. I learned my lesson by 10 fold. Don't do it. It starts out fun, and one day you'll feel bad and get whatever you've been partying on and take it, and you'll start feeling better, not sick, normal again, and then you're stuck in that cycle of trying not to be sick. That's how it happened for me. Be careful! You can live without it!

The A Team refers to the UK designation of 'hard' drugs like cocaine & heroine - they're called Class A drugs in the judicial system here (marijuana is Class C - supposedly lower sentencing) and ALSO Hannibal & Mr T's A Team from the 80s.... We all wanted to be in that A Team whyyyy the heroes, but in the Class A Team? Not so much 🤷🏽‍♀️ Ed has spent years looking for the prostitute he met in a soup kitchen called Angel, who inspired this song, to pay her Royalties (and thanks) but can't find her....
