The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The Yankees uniforms, that Jerry Coleman and Elston Howard were wearing, were the late 1930s throwbacks that they wore in the 1953 World Series and may have been worn for some games in the 1954 season.

Sullivan started as a newspaper columnist covering entertainment in NYC, then headed to Radio, and then to TV.. “Toast of The Town” was the name of his newspaper column, too.

I would love to see David Whitfield's appearance from this episode! He was the first British singer to score a million selling record in the U.S., "Cara Mia", and he was a great singer.

Imagine being in Willie & Elston's shoes and realizing the door to MLB had JUST been opened for them 7 short years prior?

I stood face to face with WARREN SPAHN when I was in radio broadcasting, and I have to say he was one aloof guy. Maybe, he was having a bad day. I didn’t interview him because he was only in town- MIDLAND, TX. as a pitching coach for the CALIFORNIA ANGELS who were playing an exhibition game against their DOUBLE-A farm team the then.. MIDLAND ANGELS of the TEXAS LEAGUE, and they were going to dress and head to the airport. He had already put his sports coat on and would’ve never had the time to chat into my tape recorder, lol. When I was doing minor league play by play a decade later I did get to interview another HALL OF FAMER- BOB FELLER who was on that 1954 CLEVELAND INDIANS club that was shockingly swept after winning a then A.L. record 111 games(111-43). The NY GIANTS thanks to MR. MAYS “only” won 97 games that season(97-57), but took the WSERIES in FOUR GAMES.. Career minor leaguer DUSTY RHODES was the clutch hero for the GINTS.

I met Spahn at the hall of fame in 1974. He was gracious and self-effacing. You're just a turd. 💩

Yogi made 30 thousand a year at the most. Now he would make 40 million. That's why these players are humble. Now they don't sign autographs. They are too big now.
