I've filmed in IB in the past but I've never really put together a video that really shows the three streams of collection.
Welcome to Imperial Beach, America's Southwestern most city in the 48 contiguous states of the United States. With a population just under 50,000 this little jewel of a city once a run down beach city is now seeing some light in becoming a real beach city like it's neighbor Coronado.
For over 16 years (17 in January) EDCO has been the exclusive franchise hauler of Imperial Beach. Before EDCO Laidlaw/Pacific Waste was the waste hauler until the end of 1999 when they lost the contract to EDCO. As part of an agreement between the two haulers, Laidlaw/Pacific collected all their blue cans (used for trash) and left behind the green carts for EDCO's use since the city Imperial Beach stated in their contract with EDCO that they wanted barrels for their green collection and not manual (this would explain why you see a whole bunch of Laidlaw carts).
This city is my second home. I actually lived here for quite some time when I was a kid and I know the city like back of my hand. At one time many of my friends actually lived in Imperial Beach even though I lived 15 miles away in Chula Vista (many of my friends in high school were transfers).
Anyways, EDCO's method of collecting this city is simple. They have three streams but they only run two trucks. One is the trash and he runs trash all day. The other does the yard waste in the morning and then comes back in the afternoon and does the recycling. So if you notice that the yard waste/recycling guy is hauling ass... yeah because he doesn't want to be out until 7pm finishing their route like I've seen them in the past.
It was nice seeing the these drivers again, overall the video turned out horrible because when editing it I felt like there was no flow. Between the limited shots I had of the ZR because I couldn't figure out his route plan to save my life and keeping up with him to the bridgeport and how slow and choppy it operated just made this kick ass idea into a flop. But you guys get the picture.
Enjoy
