Cleveland proud here, born and raised and today I work at one of our big 3 hospitals. This promo gives me ALL the feels!!!! I was 18 when Channel 5 started using this promo in 1995. Just graduated high school and on to college. The INDIANS (not the stupid G word) had just come off their first World Series appearance since 1954. The Browns had just come off an awesome 1994 season going 11-5 and beating Bill Parcels' Patriots in the Wild Card playoff game. Prior to the 1995 season Sports Illustrated had picked the Browns to lose to the 49ers in the Super Bowl!!! We not only had Bill Belichick as our head coach, our defensive co-ordinator at the time was NICK FRIGGIN SABAN!!!! The Browns were 4-2 at the time this promo dropped!!!! Cleveland was on FIRE!!! Shortly after they started running this promo, Art Modell crashed everything with that nightmare announcement from Baltimore harbor that he was moving the Browns!! Like I said, ALL the feels!
Hey - a shout out to you Edd. I was the Editor that cut this piece those many years ago! I was proud to play a small part of the grand resurgence of Cleveland going on at the time. Thanks for giving us such a fabulous piece to cut these videos to! It was joy to work on this project. One of the best tracks I ever edited to. We may have spoken on the phone back in those days but never met. I’m gonna have to check and see what you are into these days. Keep on Creating! - Mark
Every kid and adult who lived on the lakeshore in/around Cleveland in the mid 1990's secretly knows and remembers this song and absolutely loves it. Legendary. Those mid 90's clips of downtown Cleveland, the Lake, and especially the old Stadium bring a tear to my eye. What a powerful piece of art and propaganda. You hit a 450ft grand slam home run with this piece, Mr Kalehoff :)
I grew up in Cleveland and this song still gets stuck in my head to this day. A sign of a truly catchy tune. Thanks for posting and seeing all of those news anchors/the feel of the city at that time!
YES! This song is STILL remembered even after 25 years or so. I always LOVED this song when I was a kid. The commercial always had the condensed version but I heard the long version just a few times as a kid and I was always trying to find it and hear it again. Classic song! Thank you so much to those who created it.
That's some serious star power right there - including Mr. Kalehoff, whose work I've loved for decades. I lived in Cleveland for over 30 years, and I remember this :)
You had the wrong ''Annie' actress. That's not Quinn, but Andrea McArdle. She and Kalehoff were married, at this point. She also sang, with Curtis King, in the ''We're 4 New York' campaign.
Mr. Kalehoff you've always made good music. One of my favorites in the world of local television news. Was WJBK TV2 in Detroit during their CBS era of the station / early FOX years. Do you have WJBK Evening News, Dayna & Eyewitness Primetime on video? One of my favorite themes of yours...👍
The same slogan used by WEWS from 1995-1998 would be used for UK based Channel 5 during pre launch before it launched on March 30, 1997. From 1997-2002, a sans serif circle 5 was used by that channel. A newer version of this logo began to be used by Channel 5 in February 2011 with a red background after the channel was sold by the successor companies of its original owners. That logo was replaced in February 2016 after Viacom purchased the channel two years earlier, allowing Scripps to acquire the rights to it for use by WEWS in September 2016, albeit in a blue color.
