Hello Eddian [ The Eddian Project ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. Hello Gentlemen and welcome to the phenomenal world of Nightwish! The band is from Finland with the Dutch, the 3rd and current, lead singer Floor Jansen (Yahnsen) and there is a 6th member, not in this video, the Brit Troy Donockley. The pipes around the keyboards are props and resemble the monument in Helsinki of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, 600 welded pipes together in a wavy form, and it was a tribute from NW to him. I hope that Gabriel Bardac, the "General" of the NW Army, will soon visit your channel with a lot of info of the band. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RU-vid. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RU-vid in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

When you hear Nightwish for the first time, you have no idea (YET) what will happen, cause their compositions, arrangements, music, sound, the group itself and all instruments will blow you away. Hi Guys, greetings from Reading, UK Thank you for reacting to my favourite band 😉 The pipes are a wrap around for three Korg keyboards, and it is based upon a famous sculpture. The pyro wasn't fired out of the pipes, the type of liquid pyro unit they used produces that five fingered effect This song was composed in it's entirety by Tuomas (keyboardist). The orchestral parts were arranged by Pip Williams and played by The London Symphonic Orchestra. Because taking an orchestra on tour is too expensive, the orchestral parts were either on a backing track or played using midi on the keyboard This video is one of the three most reacted to videos in RU-vid history, and now you know why 😊

You will discover lots of Celtic folk musical influences in Nightwish. They have a Brit named Troy Donockley who is from Cumbria. He plays many traditional Celtic instruments. This genre is symphonic metal. Hope to see you guys again soon.

This incredible band and this amazing woman Floor Jansen made me love music again. Every song is different from Nightwish, and all are very entertaining due to the skill of the band members. Tuomas (keys) is the mastermind composer, and many of us call him the Metal Mozart. Floor is just spectacular. She has a wonderful solo career, too, she is running alongside being in Nightwish as well as some covers on her youtube channel that are worth a listen.

Greetings from Canada. Love the celtic side of Nightwish as well. Btw, The quiet part was recorded by a London orchestra ( who played on various famous movie tracks) and choirs at Abby Road Studios. Written by Tuomas, the keyboarist, with arrangements by Pip Williams. Nightwish are not always epic, and their softer music is lovely as well. Floor really shines in a recent Nightwish ballad released on 20 Sept 2024. The music and the video for it are beautiful. Lantern Light is the song.

You mentioned Floor's (the singer) stage presence and command, so i do want to also mention, this concert was when Floor was still officially filling in for previous singer and still not part of the band. only performing with them for 10 months. She knew at this point she'll become a permanent member, but it hadn't been announced and it was many people's first time hearing her in the concert If you want to check out how floor is when she's completely comfortable and her stage presence/command, check out 'I want my tears back' from Buenos Ares tour in 2018. But good idea is to follow Gabriel's list, and normally this performance is a little bit down on that list, though I don't believe there is a set order, but just a recommendation that mostly everyone follows and is good introduction to band as a whole

Yeah, there we go again: epic! Please try some other Nightwish songs: Romanticide, Nemo, Dead Boy's Poem, Sleeping Sun, Storytime, Phantom of the Opera, Shoemaker, Gethsemane, Greatest Show on Earth, How's the Heart, Poet and the Pendulum. Mes amis vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. Je vous souhaite de bons floorgasmes et continuez vos réactions nous serons toujours derrière vous pour vous soutenir pour notre groupe...... Encore plus d'écoutes s'il vous plait...... Merci. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Vous venez d'écouter la 13ème chanson du set, ensuite faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse et en même temps de faire la connaissance de la voix de Marko, ou écoutez une petite histoire, un bon rock avec un refrain qui reste longtemps en tête avec Storytime ou alors du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le mélange magnifique des voix de Floor avec Marko ( merveilleuse harmonie ) ou encore plus lourd avec Romanticide ..... Floor is the third singer Nightwish have had. I think you should check out the original singer, Tarja Turunen's solo work. Her live cover of the Muse song, Supremacy, is a must plus her own songs, such as 'Lucid Dreamer'.
