Got this jacket and it is not warm enough for legitimate snow conditions. As you said, a good “mid layer”. But with 10° weather and slight wind, it just doesn’t have enough full to feel warm. This is a great jacket for 30°-40° weather. Shop the sales, they have a ton! Great video but I feel like it’s not as warm as most people say.
Thanks Jesse for the feedback and your experience with the jacket! And totally agree on the sales tip :) hope you're enjoying the transition to spring!
I was patient and got this jacket 1/2 off for $139 - Wanted this in particular because of the durability, warmth and stretchiness for mountain biking. Super siked, thanks again for the great review.
I have many Eddie Bauer jackets and they are all excellent. The sales they run are nuts. Eddie Bauer is an icon brand, been around forever and they have been making jackets for over 100 years. Very underrated company, my Eddie Bauer gear has been just as dependable for me as my Patagonia or North Face stuff. And they have an incredible return policy and retail stores that have great staff. Love Eddie Bauer. PS: I have last year’s version of this jacket and it’s SO warm. Highly recommend.
@@Jmudukes I ordered it from the Eddie Bauer website for pickup at my local store. I think that it was an end of winter sale item. It’s a great jacket.
how'd you get it for $135?! I saw it at the store and the shell seemed more durable compared to the microtherm. So it impressed me. Thanks for the review.
Hi Roy, thanks for watching! I know it's on sale right now for around $200, but Eddie Bauer has flash sales pretty often of an additional 20-40% off, so I snagged it during one of those! I signed up for their emails to get a notification, though just a heads up they send a LOT of emails. I hope you can also get your hands on it for a low price!
Their whole marketing model is around sales. I wouldn’t buy anything that isn’t 40% off, and they have 50% off regularly if you’re patient. Plus the “sign me up for emails” $10 off.
Hi Alpine Squad! Thanks for watching my video your nice comment :) and sorry for not responding earlier!! I am hoping to get back into videos hopefully soon. COVID time gave me a nice excuse to make videos, but I really enjoyed it!
Eddie Bauer is the "victim" of its own success. It's a very old brand in the Pacific Northwest and started out catering to mountaineers, hunters, and outdoor professionals. The first American to summit Mt. Everest wore Eddie Bauer. But then "ordinary people" started wearing Eddie Bauer clothing, and this tarnished the brand. The same thing is currently happening to the North Face: it began as a brand for backpackers and climbers but now every other goofy college student wears it. Patagonia defends itself against this phenomenon by being so freaking expensive and almost never having a good sale. This scares away all but the richest soccer moms, thus preserving Patagonia's reputation.
Hi, Den thanks for watching my video and sorry for not responding earlier!! Interesting observation. I hope EB continues to be able to make technical gear - I really like every more technical piece I've purchased from them!!
What happened to Eddie Bauer is what is happening to most brands. They sold out. First to Spiegel in 1988, which is when they started marketing the general clothing consumer, and more recently to Authentic Brands Group, who basically exploit well known brand recognition. That’s not to say all Eddie Bauer products are bad. Some are ok, and some are a good value. But *most* things they sell are generic and mediocre. So it isn’t market forces making them what they are, it’s their business model.
Saw this jacket at the store in black and it did not look expensive at all. I wanted to check the microtherm 1000 but it was out of stock. I wish the microtherm 1000 had orange or some other color lining vs the outer color
