This was also the first CD I ever owned. I heard it in a Sharper Image type store and I bought the CD player and the disk both that day. It was like super expensive and I was still in school (and 35 cents short of a quarter) but it was definitely worth it. I was lucky enough to see Chick, Eddie and Steve many times in different configurations around NYC but never together unfortunately. Brings back really good memories and it still sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!

Perhaps the precursor to "Silver Temple"?

One of the first CDs I ever owned, 1986, when one had to go to the one specialty CD shop in the whole city and CDs were only mfd in West Germany or Japan. Disc sounds exactly the same as it did 37 yrs ago...also since gotten a copy of the Japanese vinyl. WHY was this not released worldwide?! This is one of my favorite recordings of any style or genre or era, this cut especially. The synergy between Chick Eddie & Steve, with fine playing from Kazumi Watanabe...sheer magic.

Yes, possibly the second ever CD I owned. No idea where I bought it, but I do remember it was almost a freebie giveaway with another album. Several years later I heard Chick's "Silver Temple" and wondered why he didn't keep the name "Ginkakuji". It's much more exotic.

Yo. Perhaps the name of Kazumi could be in the title too. :) He was so modern and powerful, we could believe to ear Gambale sometimes... 😱 (Check the solo 3:20)

Ginkakuji is a famous temple in Kyoto, Japan. "Ginkakuji 銀閣寺" means ”Temple of the Silver Pavilion.” Anyway, I sometimes feel I prefer this version.
